So I woke up this morning, went outside to find my shoes stolen and the door semi kicked in. Last week someone broke into my car; I don't live in a bad neighborhood but it makes me wonder what is stoping them from coming in my house the next time? Would taking guns away from us really make us feel secure? I have kids and a wife. If at any moment I feel their lives at risk I would not hesitate to use my weapon, I would not fatally shot someone. Seriously is taking guns the answer? You know what know that I think about it they are right it would make people feel more secure if guns were banned.... It would make criminals feel secure from law abiding citizens like me..

I 100% agree that the governments guns should go first...stop all the wars, melt every last single gun down and then no one in the world will have to worry about gun violence anymore, but they won't do that, will they?

I’m sure it’s already been pointed out more than once. But it’s government officials we’re dealing with here. There help is less than a few feet away from them most of the time. Where is the citizen’s, about two blocks down and around the corner giving them a parking ticket.

Interesting, I wonder what the strategy will be for taking the guns out of Texas?

I guess they expect us all to defend our families with a sword.

I’d better knock the dust off my wall-hanger NCO sword and buy a black ninja sweat suit.

Can't say I'm looking forward to trying to kill a rattlesnake on my in-laws property with a sword.

I saw this post in my morning mail, and came to the thread prepared to flame on with such intensity as to guarentee my banishment from ATS forever.
Once I began to read however I saw the wisdom of the words.
No flames for you, but a smoldering discontent with those "public servants" who at every turn trespass against "We The People".
We vote to outst those who have shown their hand as filthy traitors to the people, only to have those we send to Washington D.C. catch "Potomac Fever", and gleefully take up the charge against the will of the people.
I've long joked that the best thing that could happen would be a nuke strike on D.C. when congress was in session.
While there is some humor in reading it, your post actually makes sense when carefully considered.
I wonder why if our government is really seeing to the best interests of the people they each and every one must be protected by legions of men and women carrying automatic weapons, covering every possible high ground, and having the names of the discontents who have made public their dissatisfaction with the things "our" government does?
Why does our government send untold billions to countries which clearly hate us, when there are hungry children in America? When every blizzard brings news of our aged and disabled freezing to death in unheated hovels, while our "public servants" grow fat off the monies collected from taxes, and squander the funds intended to see to the needs of our most vulnerable citizens?
Your post makes a lot of sense.
I feel like until we bring short ropes to the necks of the pretenders in D.C., and lead them to tall trees we shall not again be the most free and prosperous people on the planet.
I think I'm starting to understand why they all need so many armed guards, and why they wish us to be armed with only flintlocks and slingshots.
Perhaps they need to remember that David killed the giant Goliath with a simple sling and a stone, and a mind that would not surrender to force?
If we are left with nothing more than a pocket full of rocks against their jackbooted thugs, we shall in the end prevail in our duty to shrug off an unresponsive and oppressive govermnent if need be.
Thank you for the post.
I'm going to sit by my fireplace, clean my AK47, and wait for the knock on the door.....

You aren’t the first person who said that!

Thanks for the kind words…

This is the most disheartening thing about the predicament we find ourselves in. As an active Tea Party member locally, I can’t begin to tell you how disillusioned with the political process I’ve become lately. As you accurately described, we send our best and brightest to DC only to see them drink the same kool aid and become puppets like the rest of them. I’m not sure how or if we can change that because our only recourse is to try again and again only to be disappointed. We certainly can’t muster an impeachment in this day and age because accountability is a thing of the past!

I don’t have an answer….but allowing them to take away our rights and giving them even more power and control isn’t an option.

I don’t begrudge them security and I expect them to respect our right to defend ourselves as well…as per the Bill of Rights.

…because cronyism and greed drive them. They are politicians first.

Thanks for reading it…and I hope there is no knock at your door.

I heard a little encouraging news on the radio this morning. I haven’t verified this but apparently even some in Obama’s party are shying away from sweeping gun control measure for fear of a shellacking in the mid-term elections. Hopefully their own GREED will be enough to keep them away from our guns.

you make an interesting point, maybe the politicians should lead the way and show us how well a gun ban would work. disarm all the secret service agents no more armed security for any politician.
it`s time for these decision makers to put their money where their mouth is and start walking the walk and stop just talking the talk all the time.

Good idea. Disarm the secret service agents and give them water pistols instead.

Do you people really believe your govt are going, "Damn that 2nd Amendment! The population is armed, so now we can't control them. Dang! Better ban guns."

If they wanted to coerce you, force you against your wishes in some matter and you were violently opposing them, they could just send in the army.

See how good your semi automatics are against A10 tank busters....

But of course if they ever resorted to such extremes, they would be roundly condemned by the rest of the planet, so therefore, would never do it.

If the govt would never use the army to oppress you.....erm, you don't need guns.

See how that works?

Car accidents kill more people.
I guess we should confiscate all of the vehicles also. Look at all of the lives that would be saved!

They want to shame us into blind submission via political correctness. The radicals are using passive aggressiveness in a way that was completely unthinkable even as recently as 15 years ago. If they are successful the only ones lawfully able to possess firearms will be the ones pushing the agenda, and they will use the politically correct MSM hypnotized sheep to do their dirty work for them!

Exactly correct! - Communism through "socialism" first - Then, the Communists execute the "useful idiots" when the now UNARMED, fools realize their mistake.

Social Science 101, folks!

What is learned, cannot be unlearned but through a genocide. To melt all of the guns in the world down, is to give ultimate power to the machinists and tool workers of society, the only guns on Earth - No offense against to the "tool and die" guys, but that wouldn't work well as an "end result" for the Average Joes.

We have the knowledge to make devastating weapons from sophisticated metal work, to house-hold chemicals.

You want peace? Live where there are no humans. But then, YOU'LL be there...So there can be no peace.

You're obviously concerned about becoming a target of some random criminal, otherwise why do you feel the need to own a gun for protection? Or are you one of the "GUNS > TYRANTS" contingent?

I’m not concerned about being shot by anyone BECAUSE I carry a gun….see how that works?

No, I really don't. Is there some sort of signal picked up by your firearm that tells you when a violent criminal with a gun is about to strike, or are we talking supernatural abilities here?

Besides, I don’t have to justify my reason for gun ownership because it’s my RIGHT as an American.

See, now here at least you are being honest and admitting you have no good reason other than it's a traditional thing.

This is not in regards to any one post. I'm just jumping in here with a thought or two.
This whole gun debate is rediculous. The ones opposed to guns are the only ones bringing it up for debate. I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but it is hard to conceive of any logical reason why in God's name would you want to start a civil war? Anyone with enough brains to get up in the morning knows that the guns are the rubicon and if any authority tries to disarm the American people there will be war.
Maybe they just don't quite understand that? Is there some fog they are living in that they would put civil war up for debate? Maybe they just don't care if there is a war. Maybe war to them is a tv show. If there is a war I think the ones who fostered the debate should be in the front lines and not get away with starting a catastrophy.
We're doing pretty good right now compared to how we will be doing if this debate turns to bloodshed.
Why don't we just back off a little bit and take note of the ones in Government and media who are fostering this debate. Let's take a real good look at them. That is a focal point that we all could come together around.

You really don’t know much history, do you? Study Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Chavez, Castro, etc. All of these depots disarmed their people. Unarmed people are easier to control. Any government that would attempt to disarm its people is despotic and any people who give up their arms deserve to be ruled.

If they wanted to coerce you, force you against your wishes in some matter and you were violently opposing them, they could just send in the army.

…maybe so…if they can find enough willing participants.

See how good your semi automatics are against A10 tank busters....

I’d rather be armed than unarmed…and the government would rather I be unarmed, too.

But of course if they ever resorted to such extremes, they would be roundly condemned by the rest of the planet, so therefore, would never do it.

Ya right! How many times have we seen countries kill millions of their own people while everyone stood by and watched?

Stalin killed 43 million

Mao killed 38 million

Lenin killed 4 million

Etc…

If the govt would never use the army to oppress you.....erm, you don't need guns.

It doesn’t matter if YOU think I need guns or not…..it’s my constitutional right!

This is a very compelling argument for guns...Thanks Ron Paul!
