Its about power. You all masquerade that it is about protecting your civil liberties and your constitution, but it is not is it? start being honest with yourselves and others about the real reason you want to keep your gun. It is about feeling powerful isn't it? That is all it is, you think that owning a gun makes you powerful, because you have the ability to take somebodys life should you choose to do so. This makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, that you have the power to end a life at the detention of your trigger finger. You do not want your government to take this power away from you because it will leave a void in your life. You feel so strongly about this that you are willing to see so many deaths of your citizens each year to uphold your right to feel powerful oops i mean bear arms.

I find it rather humerus and odd that foreigners seem to think they have a legitimate say in another countries internal affairs that do not affect them at all. The United States is not Britain, or any other country for that matter. We have our own rich culture, and our own laws that our nation is to be governed by. It has been this way for 236 years! We need not change our laws just so they can fit whatever misguided paradigm you're operating from. Remember that!..

Another thing that your logic seems to ignore is the transfer of power that occurs when the government disarms the people. Look at history for the examples (Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, etc. etc. etc.). If we follow your logic, the people in the UK gave up their rights only to hand over their dwindling power to the Government. So again, if we apply your logic here, you've essentially handed over the "blood thirsty power" you speak of to an elite few inside your own country. Smart.

Maybe if you all started being honest about why you really don't want gun control, then us outsiders might be able to accept your reasoning.

Just a thought.

You "outsiders" being subjects to your government, can't possible hope to comprehend what has been an American bedrock for this country for the past 236 years...

Then maybe you can explain how making law abiding citizens criminals for simply owning a gun is justified after 236 years of being constitutionally authorized to do so... I'll wait.

If the American government really wanted to "attack" its people, i'm sure your handguns and assault rifles wouldn't do much.

Are you going to shoot down fighter jets with a handgun? Didn't think so.

You probably can't even stockpile enough ammo to fight a small unit of national guard.

This law was only really relevant when guns were the end game weapon.

This is the 21st century, the time when a remote controlled drone could wipe out everyone living on your street.

Is that what your going to do next America? Stick an Anti Air gun in your back yard?

It's not justified at all. Why do you think I think it is?

Let me just take some quotes from you.

"I find it rather humerus and odd that foreigners seem to think they have a legitimate say in another countries internal affairs that do not affect them at all" - yeah because america hasn't been interfering with literally everything happening in the world for the past 50 years.

"We have our own rich culture, and our own laws that our nation is to be governed by. It has been this way for 236 years!" - Not trying to bash you here, but i get the suggestion your trying to say other countries don't? 236 years is nothing, England's earliest settlers were small bands of hunters. Around 4000BC, stone cutters arrived from Europe. The Roman invaders of Britain (AD 55) gave us the first written history of the land that came to be known as England, which they called Britannia. We win that one.

--

Maybe that's the problem? Your country is too young, the rest of the world has grown up without the need to carry guns.

You don't see us in jolly old England still carrying swords around.

Fun fact: the PM and leader of the opposition standing limits in the house of commons are exactly 2 standard sword lengths apart, to prevent them clashing swords while in parliament.

What it looks like is two things. You English....I wont say Brit.....could be like the fox that lost its tail. Or you are yet infected with English brand narcissism that feels what is best for England is good for the whole world.

Or, right, get this... Just like America is made up of 320,000,000 people with various opinions on different things, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is made up of 70,000,000 people with various opinions on different things too!

Amazing I know.

As I said on page 1 or 2 of this thread, the US does not have an opinion, the UK does not have an opinion either. Everyone has their own opinion.

It's easy enough to put yourself in someone else's mindset - if I said to you "imagine you've just been burgled" could you do it? Yes.

If someone says to me "imagine you've lived in a society which has been allowed to bear arms for several hundred years" I could do that too.

just received a letter from a friend who watches this gun control issue quite closely. It essentially states the following information:

Wednesday, Jan9, 2013 Obama took the first step to BAN all firearms in the US. Obama intends to sign an international treaty with foreign nations and in doing so Obama can use the US State Department to bypass the legal process in Congress. This inflicts major damage to the 2nd amendment and the US Constitution.

Obama will not make this public because of "SECRET NEGOTIATIONS". No debates in the media and consequently NO VOTES in Congress.

This is how it works out:
Prohibition of sales of firearms or ammunitions to the public
No transfer of firearms ownership
Citizens will be ordered to give up firearms and ammunitions or become criminals.

In general opinions in certain circles this issue is about freedom FREEDOM not about killing someone but about controlling the government that has gotten so arrogant and out of control that it is running over the citizens . It's also about the constitution and our rights we were all blessed with when we were born. I hope people wake up to the fact we are a special country with rights like no other . Are we going to standby and just let the country that almost three hundred years of blood , sweat and giving lives of our brothers and sisters and some of us ..our parents loved and fought our enemies for just be taken away? ARE we weaklings or are we going to be as strong as our ancestors were? Lets HOPE WE ARE!
Don't blame Congress they are about to not get a vote nor the media either. Pay closer attention to the actions of the State Department and what's going on in the UNITED NATIONS .

The STATE DEPARTMENT and the UNITED NATIONS are not our friends.
Remember the first Wounded Knee ? The true citizens of our country the Indians gave up their guns and still got slaughtered by our GOVERNMENT. December 29, 2010 marked the hundred and twenty second anniversary of the murder of 297 Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee Creek on the PINERIDGE INDIAN RESERVATION in So Dakota. 200 were women and children. We don't hear too much about this but, what we are told is a sanitized version put out by the US government .You will be interested to know that Wounded Knee was among the first federally backed gun confiscation attempts in US history
before you jump on the emotionally charged bandwagon for gun-control, take a moment to think about what the 2nd amendment real purpose is-The right of the people to take up arms in defense of themselves, their families, and property in the face of invading armies or an oppressive government. The 2nd amendment argument that it only applies to hunting or shooting is a false and no common sense argument at best. It was put in place and thought out very carefully by our ancestors who lived through it .Target practice during those times would have been a senseless waste and putting food on the table was a priority.
I ask you now ... What are your priorities... the safety and well being of family and homes or accepting that this idiot government can protect us let alone any foreign person that it goes to war for in the name of protection. How's that working out in the Middle East , Afganastan or Iraq?
This government can't legislate "EVIL" into extinction no better than it can control its spending.Evil and malevolence is in the hands of power governments. It's governments that destroy most human life.Find a Turk and just ask them?Find a Jew and ask them.

Be careful here. Your government has made provisions for just such talk. They can take your guns anyway because you don't have the right to discuss what you just wrote up there, my friend. Here's the law.

Finally, somebody who doesn't suffer from paranoid delusions. You have summed up gun owners in one post, in reality they could care less about liberty. They just want an excuse to shoot somebody.

I think I'm more exercising my right to freedom of speech here not organizing anything. Pointing out some history and asking some questions that are legitimate points can't threaten a government of this size . I'm not intimidated nor am I going to be forced into the shadows by anyone.

That's a good policy. I just don't think the US government is playing this game thinking there's a chance they can lose. That only leaves the other side to take the fall. I'm not trying to shut you up, but you do need to be aware that they already have the game stitched up. They're laughing.
