Thanks everyone for joining this chat
and yes I feel proud to be a Brit too, The thing is so many people try to put us down with things we have done in the past but they forget what us Brits have done for the world (list to big to post) without us the world would be very different today.
National pride is fine when people are going on about constitutions but when we show pride for wanting to defend people and their homes we get called names.
Oh and I wish Mike would come back and tell us who is going to join Argentina in invading the Falklands lol, I guess it was just a troll post.
So far 2 Argentines have commented on this thread and 50% of them seem intelligent and agree with most of us here the other had been shown facts which were just false, so I think the ggod people would just say to that silly wench "No we are not going to try and fight the Brits again....Do you remember we got are arses handed back to us last time?"
So please Mike come back and give us a giggle or come back to say you are sorry you got it wrong.

I do not think that they do want to goto war that's my point, they remember what happened last time and know it would end up far worst for them If they did it again.

Just came back to check on this thread 27 pages
wow that's a few

Thanks for a quick summery to saves me reading another 14 pages

Common sense says they will not do anything but who knows? anything can happen, I'm glad to see the comments from the Argentinians and I too would like to know more about who's gonna help the argies if they did invade.

I do remember some countries saying they would support them on the news before.... but that could mean anything

Stumason gave good details and facts about our military (Navy) and I too personally believe if it came to it we could take multiple South American countries at once if not all of them. The combined effect of our air force and navy are deadly plus this time around we would not have to do "half around the world" bombing runs to close an airfield down

The only chance they would have is a fast strike and occupation atm Argentina could not do that alone and If multiple countries were involved we'd see the build-up or we'd lose the Falklands either way with the latter we will not be fighting alone as a nation once it kicks off. As you pointed out earlier even if it was just an Argentinian invasion we would not be alone, France are obliged to help in any military conflicts and so is the UN, imagine what would happen if an SA alliance tried taking us on
wouldn't happen

That's just my thoughts on the matter
again nice thread

No war will break out in all fairness not with Argentina on their own at least If they had backing then that would be different but everyone knows there would be no war however it doesn't hurt to reaffirm the fact of that and people will do better to underestimate any foe, however in a conventional sense it would be different it would take more then a landing of 120+ Argie commando's to secure any form of a landing and when reinforcements arrive I dare say it would take a nuke to displace the garrison on the Islands and it would be naive to think there is nothing under water around the area either, Britain would always win a new war as long as no other Muppet country Joins in, and I would be highly aware of the US nothing against the people but policies are fecked like most other western nations

I ain't going to lie and any one who was there back then would back us up It was very close to us having our asses handed to us If they communicated better between engineers armourers and pilots then we would of quite possibly been singing a different tune and if they stuck to hitting our supplies then we would of been up # creak with out a paddle however that is not to say we didn't do well we done very well to do what we did, considering some of the logistical issues we had and so on but we shined back then and I dare say even if they did take out our supplies we would have still done them in just of taken longer and more casualties and we would of jacked their supplies.....

we would have still came out on top just at a higher price...

Yes I saw a few snippets on the news, then found it to watch it all on the internet. To be honest the state of the government here, as regards to this matter is largely unimportant as far as I can tell. No government that wishes to remain in power, and prevent a nation wide riot, will ever let the Falklands go, unless of course the people there wish to leave the United Kingdom. The government, and what happens in it, therefore are not key issues. The only real question, would have been, will the nation support the Falklands, as in, do our people still respect the Islanders, and the sacrifices made by the people who fought for them, died for them.

We do still respect the sacrifice of the vetrans, and we still respect the right of the Falklands Islanders to dictate thier own fate. The government know that, so no matter what pathetic fractures may have appeared in its structure, it will do what is required of it by its people in this matter. It has no choice, because it is that, or perish beneath the boots of its citizens.

Not this old chestnut again!

I just wish that half German/Argie bitch would keep her big mouth closed and shut the hell up.

As for David Cameron, he was simply asked a question and he replied ...... He never said we would go and wage war on Argentina.

Originally posted by TrueBrit I also have to say that your assertion that unless one is a card carrying member of the military, then they shouldnt talk about military matters is somewhat idiotic. In this country we have the richest military tradition in the western world, and involved or not on a personal basis, most everyone has a relative who was, or is involved in military matters. Also, some of us are actually capable of researching the things that we have no personal involvement in, rather than remaining ignorant just because we are not all wearing warpaint right now.

Its not talking about military matters at all. its the notion of someone on here puffing out there e-chest and pretending like they are going to be in the front lines slinging grenades and bayoneting the enemy for god and country when they haven't ever picked up a gun in their lives. I could not care less if someone has a friend or family serving or did a bit of research, unless you have served directly in combat its insulting to any of your countries troops to speak in such a preposterous manner.

Some people here treat this like Its like its a football game and they are fans who are sitting their arse in the stands claiming "we" scored the goal and "we" kicked their butts.

This is the best part right here fellas:

'Argentine Antarctica is a sector of Antarctica claimed by Argentina as part of its national territory consisting of the Antarctic Peninsula and a triangular section extending to the South Pole, is delimited by the 25° West and 74° West meridians and the 60° South parallel..'

'In 1536, Pedro de Mendoza, with large force well supplied with equipment and horses, found a settlement called Santa María del Buen Aire what today is the capital city of Argentina. '

Does the argentine PM have no education in history?

How you choose to misconstrue a persons words is of no importance to this issue. People are puffing out thier e-chests, they are explaining what is going to happen.

So because I have not served in the military I should not comment on defending my fellow Brits? I do not get it, we are just talking about backing any military action If we needed to defend our territory.
Most people in the UK will back any PM who defends our territory against an invading force.
Chest beating ok maybe a little but we are proud that in 82 fellow Brits went 7500 miles to protect our own...what is wrong witht that?

If this isnt an clear attempt at posturing or out right schlong measuring then...

Of all people, I would have thought you knew that it is not the size of the tank that matters; it's what you do with it.

Keep it up, fellas.

Regards

The Islands are not the British Governments to offer to Argentina for a start as much as the oil is also not the British governments to take. We are protecting the soverignty of the Islanders that is all, they Govern themselves on all other levels and yes this does include them having the sole rights to the profits from the Oil extracted from their waters.
