What's going on at Sherwood Forest???????
Noticed on GSAIM over the last week repeat micros near "New Ollerton. Notts" which is right by Sherwood Forest (Robin Hood fame)

opens in new tab/window)

07/4 to 19/12/2013 British Geological Society

In fact what the heck happened to Sherwood Forest?????, it looks no bigger than a city park these days, about 5km wide by 2km deep! where did all the trees go?

Turns out there looks like to be a Coal Mine nearby (go to satellite view)

I'm guessing that was from the Mag 4.6 (according to USGS) in northern Baja, Mexico, late on the 19th, local time.

Meanwhile, not too far away from that mag 4.6, the Salton Sea area of southern California has shown a bit of activity the past few minutes.

Not really about earthquakes ....... but

Just found this, seems a recent development

a visualization of global weather conditions
forecast by supercomputers
updated every three hours

earth.nullschool.net...

rotate the globe around with your cursor

seems reasonably accurate, there is rain about to come through Cook Strait (NZ) tonight, shows as green and all the Tasman Sea arrows are pointing to there and the SI west coast in the next 24 hrs

click on the word "earth" for the tools to go forward or back in time, too bad you can't zoom in closer.

would be cool to make something like this for earthquakes, like IRIS EQBrowser and EQ3D combined, along the same style as this (without all the crappy icons and text on those mentioned)

Sort of is about earthquakes if you subscribe to the theory that big weather variation, particularly depressions, can trigger earthquakes.

Thanks very much for finding and sharing this link. Most interesting and useful to see what the Atlantic might be about to throw at us. All the weather maps stop too short but with this one can see where the weather is coming from.

Stress on the west coast is building up

Should that not perhaps be stress is being released? If it was building up then there would likely be fewer earthquakes, unless of course you were referring to the state of mind of the inhabitants.

At this time of year stress in building up all over the world, even if one is not a Christian

When I saw those depths, I thought, "well maybe", because these epicenters are near the Golden Trout volcanic area to the NW, and the Coso Volcanic field to NE.
Then I looked at the SCEC's data page, and they have the depths listed mostly around 15 kms, which is much more reasonable.

Have been watching the swarm this morning. I noticed an uptick in size along with a recent, almost clockwork-like interval of 9 and 12 minutes. After the 1.5 came in at 11:44, I thought to myself "OK, next one at 11:56."
Gazinga!
3.3 at 11:56.

3.3 51km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 11:56:01 UTC-07:00 0.0 km
1.5 52km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 11:44:06 UTC-07:00 0.1 km
3.1 51km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 11:36:32 UTC-07:00 0.1 km
3.1 51km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 11:24:48 UTC-07:00 3.3 km
1.7 51km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 11:12:09 UTC-07:00 0.4 km

1.8 51km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 09:51:35 UTC-07:00 1.5 km

ETA: Ok, so the last one was 14 minutes later. I'll have to revise my interval to +- 15 minutes...

2.0 51km S of Lone Pine, California 2013-12-23 12:10:28 UTC-07:00 1.1 km

Stress buildup is not released enough with small quakes but with very large ones like 7 or 8 plus.

As seen this morning its just getting more noticeable.
