Now who wants to join me on a deep trek into the South American jungles to find a hithertoo unknown massive ancient city, full of gold and diamonds, or failing that a few pints down the pub.

The only way to argue against it is to argue the strong anthropic principal (if it was any other way than the way it is configured then we wouldn't even be here to make the observation or even discuss it) rendering the data utterly meaningless, but that's not scientific, at all.

I am new here and truly appreciate this site and its content...thank you. As to respect for others, absolutely. As to suggesting what your members should or shouldn't do...I have a problem with that. Its obvious that there are some who have the need to fling (some) mud and it stems to where ever they are in this lifes journey. Let them fling their mud and see the result. How else will they learn/grow?

I for one try to be kind in my responses, because at this point that is where I am at...however I think if you post a thread or a reply or anything, you should take the mud flinging. If you are so soft underbelly that you cannot take a little jab or such, then keep quiet and just read...just learn.

All I know is that I'm on my first cup of coffee and will probably have a second.

This might have been better received if the staff hadn't done such a wonderful job of deleting threads leading up to said date while allowing doomsday threads to remain. Now you have a flood of "Told you so" threads with nobody to blame but the mods who deleted these threads in the weeks leading up to it. Deny ignorance...

Well, even at a quick glance such a stance seems fair enough to me although that doesn't have to be of any interest to anyone else, it's just my position in regards to politeness.

Past that though and from perhaps a more ATS relevant perspective, from where I sit I cannot believe that if anyone held a firm, genuine conviction over this event and yet upon realising they were mistaken failed to then weigh their concerns against the outcome and review their position on this and (as would seem unavoidable to my way of thinking) much more, if being mistaken over a fully embraced belief about the end of the world as we know it hasn't demanded a certain fresh introspection then it seems absurd to believe that a barbed 'See, you silly so-and-so' styled comment would have any useful effect.

Quite the contrary I would think. When people are personally attacked (and looking around it does appear such an attack would be flavoured so) it seems to me that they would be more inclined to retreat rather than step toward their attackers position; If you were standing in the light before and stand there still but now throwing stones how would encourage anyone walk forward if they didn't before?

The only way I can possibly imagine that the phrase could be of any productive use to anyone would be if it were offered gently as a way of extending a valid 'appeal to authority' type stance in order that the individual may be more inclined to give consideration to further offers from a similar position. That altruistic stance is not what I'm seeing as being on offer behind the apparent frustration being aired over not being permitted an 'I told you so'. Rather, after the event has passed it seems no longer is the idea being considered at all through this desire, but solely the individual.

By all means attack what they choose to think or be; but even here it is better to attack ideas rather than individuals. Best of all, don’t attack anyone for anything until you have given them a proper hearing. The above is not followed with a "If you succeed in vanquishing an ignorance though feel free to poke those you helped through your most noble desire to spread understanding in the world with a pointy stick and dance about basking in your glory." If only because (being outrageously generous here) it's quite possible that there isn't any particular personal glory; merely an understanding achieved through borrowing from better thinkers who passed before.

The T&C's were the same leading up to today as they are during today. Your claim makes no sense. How would failing to enforce the rules, previously, somehow have equated to more harmony currently?

That doesn't even address the unbridled deflection contained within a belief that the volunteer staff is somehow responsible for all other member posts....

Plus, and I made a few posts on the depression true believers would feel if nothing happened. And I wasnt going to do the rub someones nose in it posts, but I may have made a few semi lets all point out you were wrong posts. But then Id be a hypocrite. the folks, (if, its still not over yet) nothing happens, they are going to be very let down, maybe depressed.. who knows. Maybe they are above my spirit and will bounce right back and be happier than i am ( that would be great).

But if they are depressed.... Ill tempered or mean spirited posts pointing them out, would only depress them further. Probably make them want to leave ATS. Which is probably one of the few places they get to vent any of this thinking out loud to( prob that way for a lot of us). we now take that away from them. Simply by rubbing salt in a wound. No fun for anyone really. And who knows maybe that person eventually uncovers something real and deep. And we miss out because we drove them away from ats. All over an I told you so thread

Give me a break and save the reader some time. You are essentially claiming that the fact people made "prediction threads" in the 2012 forum that were predicting "nothing will happen" and which were subsequently deleted by ATS staff are not contributing to the influx of "told you so" threads? You let every doomsday snake oil salesman and their pack of dogs create numerous threads and predictions and deleted any skeptical threads that were created weeks before "the date", and then you want to cry about told you so threads?

Funny how the T&C only applies to certain subjects and posters at certain times.

The T&C is consistent. Mockery and ill manners about the beliefs of others are not allowed, period. It seems that you are more focused upon other issues than an understanding of civility and decorum. The time frame is irrelevant to the rules.

But, there's being "wrong" and then there's being "delusional".

As I've said this week several times, there are a lot of people who cross the line from just being wrong, to being downright concerning to others here in their instability.

ATS, please consider having some mental health resources linked on ATS, for those who might need it. It's a breeding place for mental instability and paranoia, and ATS does nothing to combat this.

If you see posts that violate the T&C and fail to report them, you can hardly lay that at the feet of the staff, Manners and decorum are always requisite here. As it happens there are roughly 70 volunteer staff to handle thousands of posts per day. There is no possible way that we can see them all.

The ONLY reason this thread even exists is that we were aware of what would happen today. In previous weeks there have been spree killings and we've had to scramble to try and play catch-up because we had no warning nor way of preparing for the fallout.

Why that seems to be offensive to you is beyond my ability to empathize with.
