On December 21st, a convincing hoax could be almost as disastrous as the real thing.

I am stocking up. I have not made any out of town appointments for Friday. I am staying close to home and will be prepared to hunker down.

Its not because I am a believer in any predictions of doomsday. It is because people can be really crazy and dangerous when they are in a panic. I and my family will stay far away from any shopping centers where we might get trampled in a mini food riot. We are staying the heck off the roads that day because the drivers around here are bad even before they get whipped up over something scary they see on TV.

That is right. The REAL danger this coming Friday is other people. Should some prankster pull off any manner of stunt or hoax on the internet that makes enough people think what they are seeing is real NASA footage of an oncoming asteroid, or those really are the re-animated dead climbing out of their graves, then, well, things could get out of hand pretty quickly.

Yes, I am treading carefully on Friday, and will not feel at ease again until Saturday morning dawns.

Hate to say it but I agree most people are panicky creatures and once the general public is scared it takes hell and high water combined to get them to listen again

Or panic first think later mentality takes hold.

Yeah... I'm worried about that too. If you turn down the sound for the infernal EBS tones they keep repeating (which I imagine they would in the real thing, too) you'll see the instructions include NOT leaving your basement or tornado shelter for any reason until further notified by civil authorities. Nice touch,eh? If someone found a way to spoof a thing like this on Friday, I think it WOULD be taken seriously by a larger % than we might be comfortable admitting. Hell, I'll be honest..I'd sure check a dozen different places in the span of moments myself if I saw that come on.

Indeed... One MAJOR act of stupid and we could be living parts of it for real....Maya Prophecy or not...it won't much matter if people get real panicky and react poorly, as you note, to a hoax.

Indeed....think the War Of The Worlds radio program by Well's themed to be a news report...that caused some serious panic back in the 30's (was it?)!

All I can say is mental health facilities will be maxed out.
People will make their own self fulfilling prophecies when in fear like that.

Belief is a strong thing. Those who believe in something can change the direction that society goes. If enough people believe something is real it will somehow manifest. I doubt if we could destroy the world quickly unless we used nuclear weapons. We can slowly destroy the world because of our stupidity though. We are destroying the economy because of wasting too much government money on unneeded things that people think they need.

as always you pull something out of your little hat that makes me go "hummmmmmmmmmmmm" I can say I didn't think of this, it's scary to think someone might pull that off, friday is my son's 2nd birthday so I'll be eating cupcakes and FINALLY playing with all the cool stuff he's getting lol yes I'm not ashamed to say I like playing with his toys!! of course since it's supposed to happen at 6:11 that only gives me 41mins, after I'll wake up to get ready lol so a cup of coffee and then I guess I'll put my muchkin in my bed and turn on the tube, I'll make sure I have to laptop handy just to check if anything does pop up, but if someone did pull off a hoax like this I think they'd wait until a little later for maximum effect at like 9:30 10'oclock or so.

No doubt there will be hoaxes, and there will be some people ignorant enough to fall for them, but this time will pass uneventfully, or without any major disastrous events of "biblical proportions" .

The real problems will begin around mid-January on through March 2013.

How bad will it be? You'll just have to wait and see...

You know OP you have probably made the only realistic prediction so far. Someone pulling a prank is going to be the biggest danger we will have to deal with. I generally stay put on Friday the 13ths and New Year’s. Friday the 13ths only because I usually have bad luck those days and New Year’s because of drunk drivers I just get a hotel close to the bar. I can see someone pulling a hoax and it stirring up some people but I don’t see it getting very far.

BTW when you said zombies I automatically thought of the old movie Porky’s it gave me a chuckle. Thanks.

Maybe I will make some popcorn and watch those movies that day.

I am having my yard rocked Friday, I guess if the world ends, They cant cash the check . .

In seriousness though, I worry about others. My daughter has school that day, and they have a musical.
If I keep her home that day she fails music. She has had straight A's her whole life. I just hope no crazies go near the school. ... I wish I could just go with her that day.
