Wow some of the ignorance in this thread is beyond belief....

i am also from scotland... the original "home of the brave" and we are not subjects in any sense of the word regardless of oaths sworn... i have a passport that declares me as a citizen of the united kingdom of great britain..




some of the muslim communities do have sharia law but it has no basis in our legal system that is a delusion of the BNP and EDL

to my american cousins.... i love your country it is a place of beauty and wonder, i also love your people in my experience they are all extremely friendly and helpful an example of which i will share with you now....

i visited miami in 2011 and got lost and found myself in a bad part of town... i had no choice but to stop and ask for directions and the young man i spoke to was extremely helpful guiding me back to the area my hotel was located... he was a a gang member and couldn't have been more helpful.... americans get a lot of harsh things said about them because of the governments policies but i like you all as people i just don't like your government or any government for that matter

i love my country and class myself as british because we are four nations who stand side by side and fight together and have since the unification of the kingdoms.....although when it comes to football(soccer) all that gets forgotten and for 90 mins we revert to the medieval mentality of kill the english and bathe in their blood....

Last i checked, America doesn't use Sharia Courts, Britain does. Last i checked, America isn't to afraid to go after Muslims, Britain is .. wait, it's because Britain is on the verge of being ran by Muslims.

Not to mention how militarily weak Britain is. If a rabbit invasion of Britain took place, you'd lose.

You make three points all of which are false.......

we have no sharia law in our courts...

we are not run buy muslims.... we have muslim politicians but in our country religion and state matters are separate i believe your country was founded with the same idea but now the separation of church and state in the US is a distant memory

what country will be stupid enough to try and invade us..... the last successful invasion of britain was the normans led by willem the bastard.... since then the spanish have failed as have the french several times and more recently the germans...... say what you want about us but we are a warrior nation we always have been.....


just a little side note... the romans conquered what was know then as briton got to scotland had a few skirmishes and built themselves a giant wall to hold us back... that should tell you something about how difficult it is to occupy our little island

What is also somewhat ignorant is you view on our laws, particularly when it comes to this odd believe that we live in a “Orwellian state”. There are some in the UK who will complain about “big brother” but for the most part the everyday Brit will never complain about it, we don’t mind it. I for one quite like the fact that there is CCTV at the ATM machine to deter a potential mugger or there is CCTV on a bus to catch out the idiots abusing the other passengers. There are limits, many parts of a true surveillance society I do not agree with but the point is this, the UK is not a “Orwellian state” we are free.

The last point, we are not subject to Sharia law, I don’t know how this myth has started but really we are not it’s just factually incorrect I am the subject of Scottish Law not Sharia law.

Hope that clears a few things up for my cousins form across the pond.

TBH you have a point, I would be deeply offended to be called Scottish when in fact I am English.

Americans rule the world though didn't you know? They even claim that their language is "American English", when in fact it's OUR language stolen and words stupidly changed such as colour to 'color', or centred to 'centered'.

I'm proud to live in a country that doesn't legally supply guns to it's citizens. If I wanted that, I'd move to f**king Beirut.

The same applies to the Jewish community in the uk who use their own Beth din courts to settle arbitrary matters. Never really hear about those though.

As far as the OP goes, the only time I'm really bothered about my national identity is for sporting events like Olympics and the World Cup and when I travel abroad. Apart from that i dont really think about it. I feel pretty lucky to have been born in Britain. Could have been a lot worse.

You need to wise up to the propaganda you've been fed. The only revolutionary takeover of Britain in recent years has been carried out by non-theists. I'd go as far as saying that with the ever increasing atheist presence in Britain, Islam will have a harder time than it's ever had as religions are more and more being scrutinised and ridiculed by the younger generations. that's right. it all went downhill when Barry the Bomber was first running for president. There was a monumental influx of right wing crazies with there conspiracy theories and end of the world predictions. Before that America was better represented on ATS

Ah, the American view of history, as promoted by Hollywood and the Disney channel.

Firstly, Britain =/= England. Great Britain comprises England, Scotland and Wales. 'Britain' as a concept and a place existed long before the modern understanding of either England, Scotland and Wales existed.

I think you really need to have a look at the Act of the Union before you talk about this as it's pretty obvious you have no understanding of how and why England and Scotland came together in union. PRO-TIP: nothing to do with 'submitting to the British'.
