Good, it was about friggin time something drastic happened to stop these murderers and guns crazy people with a mindset equal to a slobbering redneck.

It is time children can go to school without fearing for their lives , or sit in class drowning in anxiety of imagining the class room door being kicked in and facing a damn yokel, pro.gun, NRA fanatic, armed to the teeth and ready to snuff out their small innocent lives for lunch while gun crazy maniacs debate 2nd amendment till end of time. It is high time to close this loophole in the law.

It is time Obama persuade or by executive order or send his heavy duty boys to kick some ass in the congress and senate and force them to deem gun ownership equal to terrorism which should warrant these perps 30 days to hand them in or face life in prison. Or make them 2nd rate citizens with no rights as normal citizens.

If Europe and Japan can survive and have extremely low death rates due to strong antigun laws so can US.

Even though I think that everyone having guns is a bad idea there is no way this would ever work. Do you really think the real criminals would hand in their guns and that guns would magically just vanish just because it was banned?
Also it is against the constitution itself.
Here in Europe it is very different since guns have been banned for a very long time in many European countries which makes it hard for even criminals to acquire guns.

With all due respect, I could care less if you don’t see a need for hi-cap magazines. You fail to realize the slippery slope your logic will lead us to.

Quoted for truth.

Although I don't believe a lot of people here truly understand the 'slippery slope' argument...

So, again, please explain how HAVING A CONVERSATION equates to slippery slope logic.

But hey, its your right, so why demand better of yourself, right?

The fact that neither side is even open to conversation truly illustrates just how big of sheep the people in this country are. We continue to let ourselves be lead around by the extreme fringes of our society. I weep for the future of this country.

I have yet to hear one single person come up with even a remotely logical reason why they need a high-cap AR-15. NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON.

Maybe since Im just a simple minded American, brainwashed by the media to like and enjoy shooting and blowing things up? Maybe, but I dont consider myself a sheep. I have shot all sorts of military high powered weaponry. And I actually do enjoy it. Shooting things is fun to me.

I would love to have an AR-15, it would remind me of bootcamp, and Afghanistan. I love the look and feel of an M-16. And I love that smell you get during and after bullets have been fired.

Does that mean there is something wrong with me? Honestly...should I be considered a threat (even though I already am, being a veteran and all).

I do however, consider myself morally sound, and mentally stable. I would never dream of going on a shooting rampage. I would never consider hurting or killing someone, unless my own life, or the life of my family was threatened...

Am I alone on this one?

I truly enjoy shooting as well. I love trying out new firearms. I also love to drive fast. Like real fast. Triple digit fast. Im a good driver. I have never injured anyone else with my car. Does that mean that it should be legal for me to do 120 on the freeway, since I enjoy it?

He could for example do this;

1 - Every licensed gun owner is prohibited entrance into any school or other public builiding without permit from Homeland security.

2 - This permit should be received after a thorough psychological evaluations have been done,of each owner.

This is already illegal! Nobody can bring a gun in a school in any state!

3- Families with mental disorders in their history are prohibited from gun ownership.

This is already the case!!

4- The price for a gun license could be raised ten fold and hence make it very hard for most ordinary citizens to afford one or more guns.

They could impose a tax but it wouldn’t stop people….cigarettes went from $1 a pack when I was 18 to over $6 per pack in some areas. People still smoke!!

Some people have no idea how many regulations are already in place!

How does it not?

One side is arguing we should ban guns because they are "dangerous killing devices used only to kill innocent people" and "only the government & police should have them", while the other side argues that banning firearms (& revoking the 2nd Amendment) only leads further down the slippery slope our govt has already been on policy-wise for the past 40-50 years and will only lead to the govt revoking more and more of our rights until we don't have rights anymore...

What is so hard to grasp about that concept?

You just wait while obama and his legal boys have some brain storming in his oval office. With little luck we can look forward to a 2013 that makes it very painful economically or otherwise to be a gun owner.

All this will do (more gun laws) is create a whole new class of firearms. It will create an underground for law abiding folks to own handguns.

People won't relinquish their freedoms for a non-existent security.

They seem to have no problems with that in Germany & Italy...

Same can be said about a lot of things we have regulated here in the US that other countries haven't and they don't have that big of problems with; Speed limits (Autostrada, Autobahn, etc), Drugs (Amsterdam, Portugal, Switzerland, etc)..

You did not, in any way, explain how having a conversation equates to slippery slope logic. Are we not a democracy? Is it not about majority rules? How can we find out what the majority wants, if we cant even have the conversation?

And your examples illustrate exactly what I am saying. You think there are only two solutions here: Ban all guns or keep all guns. THERE IS MIDDLE GROUND. Yet you all continue to be lead around by the nose by the extreme, vocal fringe of either side, as opposed to finding out what the american people really think.

Please explain to me how HAVING A CONVERSATION equates to giving up rights. I am seeing so many fine examples on this site of the exact point I am making. We cant even TALK about it without people like you saying we are willing to give up our rights, or "theyre gonna take er guns!".

If I concede that assault weapons should be banned then soon it will be hi cap mags, then pistols, then high caliber rifles, then all rifles, then shotguns, etc. Pretty soon there will be precedent for banning all types of guns.

Are you going to pretend you don’t see this slippery slope? Giving up even an inch on this issue is a colossal display of ignorance and naiveté. No discussion is needed as far as I’m concerned because more gun laws only affect MY ability to legally own a firearm. How about we more vigorously enforce the current laws before we add more??

So its your stance that we should all be able to do what we want, because we enjoy it? Why shouldnt you be allowed to own a bazooka then? Why shouldnt everyone have access to nuclear weapons?

I see the slippery slope in conceding to bans. That is not what I asked. I asked about HAVING THE CONVERSATION.

just a little story that highlights thee difference between guns and knives.

I don't believe everyone in the US is totally insane. I do however believe there is a silent majority, who like the rest of the world sits quietly for fear of persecution if the there is even a hint of a suggestion that people should not be allowed to own multiple fire arms. The fact the kid in conneticut was not even old enough to drink... Yet he could own fire arms that did enable this sought of devastation... I have to say the entire world cries for U in the US... Where do you draw the line?

To everyone debating this issue, please read this letter written by a woman named Mary Carpenter 12 years ago who has more of a "right" to speak on this issue than any of us. www.examiner.com...

No, he's just going to ask you where your argument is...

It's there, I don't know how our point could get much clearer. Once you ban or regulate one thing (like in his example: hi-cap magazines), then its another thing, and another, and another, and then you just ban them outright.

BUT, when do criminals, ones who are going to go as far as murder, really listen to the law?

What you are proving is my point. I AM NOT ADVOCATING ANY BANS. I AM ADVOCATING DISCUSSION. Yet the vocal fringe wont allow that to happen. You would rather twist it to "you wanna take my guns!" "Its my god given right!" etc, so that the conversation cannot even take place.

You let fear control you.
