There have been many threads already about the school shooting in Connecticut. This is another political opportunity for the thugs in our government to push gun control on law abiding citizens. There are so many people on ATS who continue to deny the left’s efforts to go after the 2nd amendment. All of the usual suspects within our government who seek to disarm the people of this country have been identified countless times yet people here still deny its happening. I wonder how much writing must be on the wall before they concede that fact.

Think Progress, the controversial organization funded by George Soros to promote and elect politicians from the Democratic Party, began pushing for policy changes and attacking conservative groups by helping promote an online petition calling for restrictions on the second amendment. Over 100,000 liberals and other left-of-center Americans joined in and signed.

Today, Sen. Dianne Feinstein on NBC's Meet The (Depressed) Press said that she will introduce an assault weapons ban bill on the first day of the new Congress. Also today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg moved to politicize the school shooting in Connecticut by issuing the following statement:

With all the carnage from gun violence in our country, it’s still almost impossible to believe that a mass shooting in a kindergarten class could happen. It has come to that. Not even kindergarteners learning their A,B,Cs are safe. We heard after Columbine that it was too soon to talk about gun laws. We heard it after Virginia Tech. After Tucson and Aurora and Oak Creek. And now we are hearing it again. For every day we wait, 34 more people are murdered with guns. Today, many of them were five-year olds. President Obama rightly sent his heartfelt condolences to the families in Newtown. But the country needs him to send a bill to Congress to fix this problem. Calling for ‘meaningful action’ is not enough. We need immediate action. We have heard all the rhetoric before. What we have not seen is leadership – not from the White House and not from Congress. That must end today. This is a national tragedy and it demands a national response. My deepest sympathies are with the families of all those affected, and my determination to stop this madness is stronger than ever.

You wouldn’t believe the turnout at the local gun show I attended yesterday. I literally turned around and headed home because the parking lot was overflowing and the line to get in was wrapped around the building. I’ve never seen that many people at a gun show. The writing is on the wall, people. At least people here (in Texas) GET IT!

Disarming citizens is the first step in establishing complete control over a population. In 1929, the Soviet Union established strict gun control measures. From 1929 to 1953 @20 million citizens who were unarmed and unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated. By 1987 the number of unarmed citizens killed had risen to 61,911,000.

Is that the future Americans wish for themselves?? If you're American and you do not recognize and oppose these efforts then your fate is clear. This isn't fearmongering....it's happened before. This is SOP for thugs and dictators....disarm then control. Stay tuned! You'll see legislation proposed next month.

Good, it was about friggin time something drastic happened to stop these murderers and guns crazy people with a mindset equal to a slobbering redneck.

It is time children can go to school without fearing for their lives , or sit in class drowning in anxiety of imagining the class room door being kicked in and facing a damn yokel, pro.gun, NRA fanatic, armed to the teeth and ready to snuff out their small innocent lives for lunch while gun crazy maniacs debate 2nd amendment till end of time. It is high time to close this loophole in the law.

It is time Obama persuade or by executive order or send his heavy duty boys to kick some ass in the congress and senate and force them to deem gun ownership equal to terrorism which should warrant these perps 30 days to hand them in or face life in prison. Or make them 2nd rate citizens with no rights as normal citizens.

If Europe and Japan can survive and have extremely low death rates due to strong antigun laws so can US.

Wrong. Fail.
This will never happen.
And this wouldn't solve the problem.

Who care about assault rifles? In my opinion we could do without.

However, guns in general will never and could never be banned in the US.
You just couldn't physically pull it off.

You talk as though somehow removing guns (or trying to) from the equation will magically make all the crazies and criminals disappear.

I seriously do not understand what people do not get about this; Just because you take away a gun, doesn't mean you take away the criminal intent of someone bent on hurting others...

And please don't pull the "that's why we have police" card, what is the average police response time in the US? Usually greater than 10 minutes. By that time your attacker is gone and you are left possibly dead or dying wishing you had a gun to defend yourself from a criminal who had no respect for the law...

You are a 2nd rate critical thinker, as an extreme response like this by the government would only flood the streets with more weapons.

In addition, it would become much harder to do forensics when the gun isn't registered and has the serial number filed off.

Im tired of hearing about all this about gun control, and disarmament. Itwont happen. I have faith that Americans wont let it. If TPTB are so 'powerful', why dont they just do it already? People are starting to wake up. The longer they take, the more the people out there will have taken the red pill.

Do you think murders will somehow stop if assault weapons are banned?

Gun laws never keep guns out of the hands of lunatics.

It is time Obama persuade the congress and senate to deem gun ownership as equal to terrorism and give these perps 30 days to hand them in or face life in prison. Or make them 2nd rate citizens with rights as normal citizens.

It’s funny to me that so many people in other countries who have already been neutered and rendered harmless by their government wish the same fate on Americans.

If Europe and Japan can survive and have extremely low death rates due to strong antigun laws so can US.

Europe and Japan don’t have the equivalent of the 2nd amendment. You can’t miss what you’ve never had. Besides, these incidents happen there, too, even though they have strict gun laws.

Twelve people have been killed and 25 injured by a gunman who opened fire in west Cumbria.

Please, then just convince me how the " war on guns" will be anymore effective than the "war on drugs". Which even democrats have decried as one great fail.

I don't understand. If people want to break the law by killing people, do you honestly think they will obey gun laws?

Just as I said in another thread:

I am so tired of this. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO BAN GUNS.THEY CAN'T.

Whats truly sad, though, is that the fanatics out there arent even willing to have a conversation on the subject. ANY speak of restrictions on guns is looked at as though "they're gonna take all our guns!".

The truth is, I am very pro gun rights. But a conversation needs to be had. We need to take a look at WHAT KIND of guns are out there for the public. We need to take a look at capacity. We need to take a look at more rigorous qualifications for who can purchase guns.

But we wont. Cuz this is 'Merica. We like guns. We have a logical need for high capacity military style weapons

I have yet to hear one single person come up with even a remotely logical reason why they need a high-cap AR-15. NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON.

There will be less obviously, at least less mass shootings where dozens of people are killed.

Oh next year right? I guess you can say, I've been 'awake' for a few years now, and its always, "next year" or "in the next few months"

Bring on the NWO already!

I don’t….not after this last election.

The groundwork has been laid over the past several decades and the efforts are intensifying.

I haven’t heard one single person tell me how the second amendment gave the government the power to regulate the type of firearms that may be owned. What business is it of yours (anyone) how many rounds my magazine holds or what training I’ve had??? The number of murders committed using ‘legally owned assault weapons’ is miniscule!

There are already a number of laws on the books that limit the type and style of guns that can ONLY be owned with a license in this country. Have you ever tried to buy a machine gun? Good luck! You might get one after several months of paperwork and background checks, hundreds of dollars paid to the government agencies who ALREADY regulate these weapons, and after they remove the magnifying glass from your rectum.

The deeper point here is that you (and many others) who claim to be gun advocates are more than willing to give up your rights (and mine) based on YOUR reasoning. With all due respect, I could care less if you don’t see a need for hi-cap magazines. You fail to realize the slippery slope your logic will lead us to.

Yes, because all gun owners just want to go on crazy spree-killings...

You are no better of a person than the people you claim are so horrible.

There will be a hell of a lot more lives saved if we outlaw smoking and driving. Are you cool with that, too?

Think about the rights you're willing to give up....and what has happened to citizens in other countries who willingly allowed themselves to be disarmed. Do you know who will NEVER be disarmed?? TPTB!!

You bet you a..ss it will and very soon. Obama doesnt need to care about the 2nd amendment. Only yokels and rednecks refer to this worthless and outaged adendum in the constitution.

THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO SKIN THIS CAT.

He could for example do this;

1 - Every licensed gun owner is prohibited entrance into any school or other public builiding without permit from Homeland security.

2 - This permit should be received after a thorough psychological evaluations have been done,of each owner.

3- Families with mental disorders in their history are prohibited from gun ownership.

4- The price for a gun license could be raised ten fold and hence make it very hard for most ordinary citizens to afford one or more guns.

Those of you on ATS who also believe in making life miserable for gun owners please add your points/suggestions to the list.

Please explain to me how HAVING A CONVERSATION equates to giving up rights. I am seeing so many fine examples on this site of the exact point I am making. We cant even TALK about it without people like you saying we are willing to give up our rights, or "theyre gonna take er guns!".
