It has never been time for the mentally ill and criminally inclined to have guns. But for law abiding, sane citizens it is their right (not a privilege). FWIW, only 4% of all homicides are committed with a rifle (assault, hunting or target).

I am a "CIVILIAN" but I work with members of the U.S. Military in one of my JOBS. I have been doing this for decades and my Dad is Military and my Mom is also a "CIVILIAN".

I have traveled all over and the U.S. Military is viewed differently by the U.S. Citizen than the way a person from another country would view their own Military. This is even true for relatively progressive Countries and Military's such as most E.U., U.K., Aussie...etc...Military's.

The average American Citizen sees our Military as a member of their Family. This is so because the U.S. Military is comprised of an ALL VOLUNTEER FORCE of Sons, Daughters, Moms, Dads...etc. They are Highly Professional and they have chosen this job rather than being forced into it.

People in the U.S. are very protective of their Men and Women in their Military and to go into a Local Bar and start screaming obscenities that target a branch of the U.S. Military is a sure fire way to get ones ASS KICKED by a Pissed Off Grandma!

I can say this next statement with 100% certainty. If U.S. Troops were ordered to Fire Weapons into a Peaceful Crowd...they would REFUSE ORDERS.

You see...a Soldier of the United States takes an Oath before joining a branch of the Military and that oath swears them to PROTECT THE PEOPLE AND CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES. This oath does not swear protection to the President or Government or any Legislature or Military Leader. A Soldier swears to protect the People and Constitution. Any order to the contrary forces a Soldier not only to refuse such orders but to also remove from power any Leader Military or Civilian that has broken the trust of the Constitution.

We are not perfect...but it works better than anything else.
