Emergency dispatchers received reports that a shooting may have occurred near Macy’s and that a man was seen with an AR-15 rifle near the mall’s food court around 3:29 p.m.

They received reports on this at 3:29, and you posted at 6:47 that your wife had just called. I'd really like to know WHY they did not IMMEDIATELY enact some emergency procedure at the mall, like alert all mall staff, evacuate the mall or SOMETHING other allow a shooting to occur 3 hours after reports came in to dispatchers. Reports. Plural. Not just one report. I don't get it.

EDIT: My bad-- Heff cleared me up on the time discrepancy due to different time zone!

I could not see Anonymous being involved. For it to be an AnonOp, from what I understand (I have watched their videos on youtube) the majority of Anonymous would have to vote for the op to take place. Futhermore, they use keyboards not guns.

Still...guess you never know right?

Oh.
I can not imagine what else there is to discuss though. The circumstances surrounding the incident?

What is accepted on this forum as on-topic for a thread like this? I was by no means looking to de rail the thread. It seemed on topic to me.

Why.. are you posting... this.. when you knew right off the bat she was in danger?? ATS would have been the last thing on my mind. I would have been front and center there even if I could see nothing. To each their own i guess.

My wife called me at 3:30, I stayed on the phone with her for 15 minutes, got off the phone once she was secure and safe in the inventory room. Posted on ats at 3:47.

What exactly are you referring to at 6:47?

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say at least one person is dead and multiple people are wounded after someone opened fire in a Portland, Ore., area mall filled with holiday shoppers.

Clackamas County sheriff's Lt. James Rhodes says he is still trying to get more details about the situation at the Clackamas Town Center, but the gunman has been "neutralized." He says he isn't sure whether the gunman is dead.

Authorities are going store-to-store to secure the scene, but Rhodes says there is no indication that there is more than one gunman.

A witness told KATU television that she saw people screaming and parents grabbing their children as they fled the mall.

That witness says the gunman had a rifle and was wearing a camouflage outfit and a mask.

AP

Dressed in camo? On the radio they said he was dressed all in black.

I thought I read there was more than one shooter. Did that change?

This chart - though from 2010 ( Much easier to compare numbers with than the FBI websites pages are ) shows the basis for my supposition. All cities have crime - but some are prone to much more violent crime than others. Such is the case with Portland.

As a resident of Atlanta, Georgia I am very much aware of the prevalence of violent crime. "Spree shooting" is a specific act and highly differentiated, behaviorally, from, say, a gang member opening fire on a crowd with the intent of harming a specific target. The motives and psychology involved, between the two acts, are very different.

Oh i know you did.. it's all good.. it was very active in here as everyone was getting updates and live info... and I do think gun control issues are important things to discuss.... but if this guy had gone in with a machete and killed 2 people what would you say?

Much love!

to all of those crying out for stricter gun laws.... stop and think for a minute.

Think about how the war on drugs is going

Think about how well prohibition worked.

Think about the gun crime rate of DC versus your town ... now remember that until congress FORCED dc to comply with the supreme court they all but banned civilian gun ownership.

Now look at NYC where as a private citizen you can't own or carrry decent sized knives stun guns pepper spray snap batons and more... and getting a pistol license takes an act of god and a briefcase full of cash....

now how safe are NYC's streets at night again?

What about Chicago? it has some of the strictest gun control in the nation....

Gee gun control sure works well doesn't it?

or better yet do your due dilligence and look at the rampage shootings that have made the news in teh last decade and research how many of them occurred in areas where local state or federal law and or the policy of the property owner prohibited firearms on the premises.... I've done the research and I can tell you most of you will be very surprised when you do it yourselves.

Now I DARE you to look into how many armed robberies or murders have happened in the entire history of the knob creek machine gun shoot.... by those who would ban certain types of guns logic you would think these event would leave a veritable trail of bodies....

Hey better yet look up the term KNIFE RAMPAGE IN CHINA in google .... you will see that when people cannot get guns they will just kill you with something else.

The ONLY PURPOSE banning guns legitimately serves is to remove your power to control your own life. Be it your ability to be safe from crime or your ability to stand up and say no when your government takes things too far.

I could make more comments but I feel like this is plenty of material for those of you who look at incidents like this and come to the understandable but completely illogical conclusion that the solution to issues like this is to further restrict gun ownership.

She was in a bulletproof room, what danger was she in exactly? I can see why the OP did not drive out there. She was in no danger, there was a dead shooter and cops everywhere by that point.

The "post time" we see reflects the time in our individual time zones. Based upon that I would assume that this member is in the EST.

I got off the phone when she was safe and posted on ats seeking information anyone might have about the situation.

Read my first post. I couldn't find info on the net and ats provided me with the police scanner info so I could keep my wife up todate while she was locked in a room not knowing what was going on.
I was in contact with her the whole time feeding her the police scanner info.

Which I am thankful to ats and its members for providing me with resources and added calm In A troubled time.

A ban on assault rifles doesn't mean criminals and would be killers won't get their hands on them
