They have apparently had them for this long and no one has been nuked (yet)

My solution to the crisis :

- Israel signs NPT and allows IAEA for inspection
- UN seizes all its Nuclear Arsenal
- ME is declared WMD free region
- Iran sanctions lifted

1. Agreed.
2. One up - all up. All countries planet wide to adhere to this order otherwise discrimination ensues.
3. Hopefully - but will all of the population(s) abide by this?
4. Agreed - punishing the population to bring about regime' change is unacceptable.

Given the UN recognition of 'observer' status to their 'arch enemy', I don't think Isreal will be toeing the UN line for a while now . . .

Unless it benefits them, and gets them a few billion more out of the US treasury.

I'm neither for or against Isreal, but I sure am getting sick and tired of the 'entitlement' mentality of some nations that expect a hell of a lot more respect than they give.

Just sayin'.

Wait, wait, wait.

I need a bowl of popcorn for this.

It's about time, not that they won't simply deny it.

now that sounds like a plan to me,
let UN take all the nukes and dispose of them.

Its not like anyone is ever going to actually use them..
or at least i would hope not... it would be global
suicide

In its essence, A united planet would be good.

They (the UN) are a toothless tiger - otherwise you and I would not be having this conversation.

Look, I am all for a nuclear free Middle East, but more so a nuclear free world.

I do not want my children growing up knowing countries are armed to the hilt with weapons that can change the topography of a country.

Unacceptable - by all accounts.

Lets address the big picture here - take them off Israel, YES

BUT keep going and take them off everybody.

That's if they actually destroy them and don't hold them as their own Nuclear arsenal...these are the same people that want to completely disarm the civilian population..,

I'd prefer a supervised order to dismantle and close production facilities.

you have a point there...

it seems they are going for total control
if possible....

and sadly it seems like many are going along
with it... obama comes to mind...

Wow and I thought this was the same corrupt and inept UN that still tried to pretend that the Vela Incident wasn't an Israeli nuclear test.

If everybody in the region had them, would it be safer?

Nop . No one will be safe in the whole world . How can Israel be entrusted to have Nuclear Weapon while Iran cannot ? Its surprising that when whole ME is asking for WMD free ME , Israel and US rejects that idea . Why is this double stand and hypocrisy ?

Because it isn't that simple. I'm not even going to attempt to ask you to put yourself in Israel's position (the tone of your posts suggest I'd have better luck getting blood from a stone...) but the bottom line is that Israel believes that its nuclear arsenal - and its unknown power - is what keeps it safe from certain extinction. Now, you can argue about it all day long, but that's just how it is. Double standards? Yes. Hypocrisy? Yes. Well life isn't fair, cry me a river, etc, etc.

And I'll tell you something else, if the UN keeps humiliating Israel like it has done over the past few days, this situation is going to explode. The end result might be the end of Israel (which many will be happy with) but the mess that's left behind will be unimaginable.

I'm all for removing Israel's nuclear bully (billy) club, maybe then would have to be sociable and work for peace .with their neighbors.

Failing that, the UN should give the [GPS confirmed] location of Israel's nuclear arsenal to Iran, so Iran can supersaturate them with bombs and render them inoperable / unrecoverable... _when_ Israel attacks them.

Even if Iran 'lost the war' taking out Israel's nukes would be a win for them.

Did you not see my post at the top of this page (2)?

You are preaching to the converted......., I find the sanctions unacceptable.

Surely you are not implying that the UN has the final say regarding this?

Very melodramatic and all.

...and who is going to do the punishing? The U.N.? Really? With what? The only teeth the U.N. has, are the teeth the United States cares to give it.

Maybe it's not right, but them's the facts.

Israel has nukes. Has for some little time now, decades at the least. They haven't used them.

Before we get all hot and bothered about "punishing" Israel, shouldn't we at least take a quick gander at what might happen should we be so stupid as to back them into a wall?

Samson Option.

Never again. This is the basic premise behind every action the Israeli govt takes. Never again will they suffer the actions of others against the Jewish people. Not if they have anything to say in the matter...

Do you think, for a moment, that they wouldn't use 'em if they feel they've no choice? If they feel they've no choice, they won't hesitate a heartbeat...and some cities are going to vaporize.

Horrifying, yes. But to them? Taking their enemies down with them into the afterlife? Maybe not so much.

Maybe, just maybe we ought to consider that before the "punishment" commences?

It is huge.

Israel won't do it, though.
The Israeli government is extremely defiant on that point.

To the point of being tyrannical.

One name:
Mordechai Vanunu.

End of.
