From sources on the biggest Chinese website in the world www.sina.com's military section, there was an article saying Europe will cancel its weapon export ban latest by end of next year. What will China buy? Is Russia gonna lower their prices and make a grab? Share your thoughts

Chirac has been pushing hard to get the ban lifted. Heck theres euros to be made selling weapons to China. Though I bet they will only buy one Euro fighter then copy all of them they want

IMHO the J-10 already looks very much like the euro- fighter..

European systems IMO would be far more expensive than the similar Russian weaponry. My bet is that China will buy small batches of European weaponry and attempt to reverse engineer it.

Apparently China might finance the MiG-144. That thing looks damned sexy.

But, I think they'll just buy up Russian Arms. The Sukhoi's are the best damned fighters out, and everyone knows it. Also a darn sight cheaper than the opposition, so no choice. Anti-Tank? Sukhoi again. Heli's? Alot of choice there, Ka-50's, Various odd looking Euro beasts, Apache's the probably won't get, as i doubt there will be anyone offering them, except ones which were downed in Iraq.
Transoport planes? Take your pic from anything.

Guns - I dunno, they'll probably just take idea's from loads of diferent guns they buy, and mix and match.

Tanks - Hmm, difficult. Modern tanks from most nations are pretty evenly matched. T-90, M1A1, Challenger 2, all pretty even. So not much choice, whats cheapest probably for them. Or do the same trick on guns, pic 'n mix tank.

Naval - Anyone selling, most likely. Russian Subs though, No doubt. As for ships and boats, They'll probably make their own once they've bought some.

Either way, and up-to-date chinese military is going to reinforce their position as the most powerfull armed forces around. Scary.

a bit overconfident.
i mean come on they have no navy, hell the RN could beat them at a ship for ship battle.not to say the RN is bad but just is rather small.
also thier longest range missiles reach what mabye to turkey?
i doubt britain or USA will sell them anything.

I doubt they will purchase that much from Europe, they will most likely stick to the Russian gear, its cheaper and battle proven.

Maybe .. just maybe they will buy some fighters off Europe then add there best features to the J-10

yeah but does have its disadvantages, the european tech is tested though.

I rate China will buy a huge amount of fire arms and gear 1st rather then tanks and planes, cause they seem to be quite happy with what they got. So i rate they will just buy a lot of assault rifes or something like that cause they army doesn't seem to be well equiped, im talking uniform, vests and stuff if you thinking of guns.

European countries would probably try to sell every possible weapon to China, starting from rations to submarines. Germany is probably going to try to sell some subs and Leopard 2 tanks, France will try to sell they FAMAS assault rifles and some Leclerc tanks, baisicly all European countries can sell a bit of everything to China.

You think that Zeck ?

you really think they will give the next emerging communist superpower all of there latest gear and technology so they can go and copy it and mass produce I highly doubt they will sell anything to them.

That isn't the best technology they got and european countries are the ones who are very enthusiastic about lifting the embargo as China is now the 2nd highest importer of goods from Europe and China could use a little modernization as they still are flying mig 21s. If you read newspapers or watch the news you should know that a week ago or so there was a large meeting between Chirac and China's leader who were talking about increasing trade and lifting the military embargo. Man you should see how rapidly they economy is growing, quite strange for a communist country if you ask me.

China's economy is growing by 9.1% a year. That is very impresive indeed. With the cancelation of the weapons ban China will buy sometech for aircrafts and other stuff also they will try get as much space tech as possible. China will not buy actuale military units for Europe.

Out,
Russian

China has countless soldiers to equip. I don't really think it's possible for China to buy the best stuff for all of its soldiers. European stuff is too expensive for China to mass equip. Special forces might get European stuff, but if anything China will just copy the designs again.

@Zeck

Our soldiers are relatively ill-equipped, but the least thing that we need to buy are small-arm equipments, etc. Those low tech stuff we can make very cheaply. Take a look at the photo below and tell you you know what it is.

This ban is largely symbolic and is a great leverage to bargain with the russians. That's all; we are mostly self-sufficient and only buy things to fill in the gaps.

- Yeah cheap dig, very amusing.

Except it was the USA's great mate Israel that sold China the Lavi (F16/15/18) technology wasn't it?

Somehow I predict a long long silence on the digs in Israel's direction for all that though, huh?

- With the USA currently out spending the next 35 countries in the military spending league table combined I don't think China has anything like sufficient wealth to catch up properly never mind become "the most powerful armed forces around".

- Extraordinary rates of growth like that are less difficult when one is starting from a low base. They're developing alright but the total wealth divided among her people gives a much less impressive figure.

The only in common between the J10 and Lavi is the looks; everything inside is different. Even the exterior is changed.

At least we are making our own stuff while UK can't even make any decent planes anymore and had to buy from the Americans and cooperate with the French and German to develop planes. Well you know what, Chinese air force with our Su27/30s can trance your old Harriers, Tornados, etc any day. lol Hell, J10 can beat anything you have in your inventory.

- Jayzuss mate if you think a few changes to the exterior proves anything?!

At least we are making our own stuff

- I'm thrilled for 'you'.

while UK can't even make any decent planes anymore

- I know, how do we live with ourselves? (even if it's a tad inaccurate)

and had to buy from the Americans

- Terrible isn't it?....but we are kicking that habit, honest.

and cooperate with the French and German to develop planes.

- Actually we only cooperated with the French on Concorde and the Jaguar, we had a go with a few other projects but it just didn't work out.

Eurofighter (blessed be it's name) was a cooperative venture between the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy.

Although you are, strictly speaking, incorrect.

The UK is fully capable of making our own planes but why should we when it makes complete sense to share costs? (Actually much of the Eurofighter's airframe design was rooted in the UK only EAP.)

Well you know what, Chinese air force with our Su27/30s can trance your old Harriers, Tornados, etc any day.

- If you say so, old son.

lol Hell, J10 can beat anything you have in your inventory.

- Righto. Enjoy.

(I don't mean to patronise you but when your english is a little better you might re-read this and see that I was not taking a bash at China or it's abilities.

I was mocking those that were yet again taking an easy bash at Europe and those who try to sustain this stupidity that China is threatening anyone......but if you want to fall in on that side of the debate, feel free my friend.)
