Over the weekend....i am all over it.


I guess i could learn to do them in Photoshop. I have Macromedia Flash 8....but am not very proficient with it. When i ran a call center, i made spinning logos for each of the sister call center sites on our account (we ran smallish intranet sites at first, then moved to Sharepoint).

But the majority of the stuff I do now started a few months back. In fact, the majority of what I do now I started learning with Chitens thread. I am still pretty new at the whole thing.

Regardless, if there is a readable tutorial out there that someone is aware of...please do share. I can't do videos. Not sure why....but i lose focus on a video.

Some ideas:

Meteor shower

leaves blowing by (agarta has one similar)

Glowing runes flying by, or maybe swirling in a cyclone type pattern

a decent lightning flash (all the ones I see are shoddy for the most part)

snowfall

a light/mild sparkle (more mystical, less blingy)

Ill tell you, one of the most brilliant ones I ever saw was Doc Velocity's. Sure, he seems to have been paid by the US Government to post here as part of some sort of psyops, or disinfo (been awhile, so the specific details elude me) But his avatar....


....it was this cartoonish, long necked, howdy doodie looking guy. Neck the length of what you would expect his body to be. And the head had the most ever so slight wobble to it. You had to stare at it for a bit to pick it up. When i say ever so slight....i have never seen anything like this The movement was so sublime you almost had to catch it in the corner of your eye. And the wobble was fast, too. With varying speeds, like it was spring powered. It would wobble, then slow down, stop for an instant, then wobble some more. Like a twisting motion.

I wish i had a copy of that .gif. It is the best animation I have ever seen.

Care to write out a quick tutorial in the process? You're better than I at animation, and the point is to get others involved. A little instruction goes a long way.....you've heard of the feed a man a fish, or teach a man to fish analogy?

Good day to all you avatar artists and geniuses.

It's about time I got myself one and would very much appreciate some help, well obviously I'm on the slow bus in this area so I won't be much help at all lol.

I'm hoping that no one else has used this for an av yet but I would like to use a pic from the app Year Walk. You image experts might be able to find better res, or more suitable examples of the pics that can be seen here.

I was hoping one of these pics could be fairly large in foreground (keeping aspect ratio i.e. Not strethed or widened) blended with this orion nebula pic in the back ground and higher portion of the av. No mini profile, just the full background pic with the transparent smaller av.

I hope i'm making some kind of sense.

I'd like you guys to choose which part of the orion pic to use and which of the year walk pics you guys think works best. If you've already made year walk avs for others I have a second back up image. However I don't know how much effort it would take to get the 'post it' figure from this album cover. These guys have been my favourite band for a few years now.

The pineapple Thief - 'someone here is missing' album cover, i believe created by the same guy who did Floyds Dark Side cover.

Hey thanks yep that was definitely the kind of thing I was after and thanks for being so speedy.

Would it be possible to keep some of the year walk scenery in the bottom half of the image with maybe some snow or a tree or two? Kind of fading out the year walk scenery and fading in the nebula. If making her a little smaller perhaps half hieght makes that work better/easier

Also I like the way the snow looks like stars on her body is thete anyway to expand them to the rest o th image?

Unfortunately, I'm using somewhat of an obscure program to produce the final animations... PSP Animation Shop. So, I don't think that will work for most.

I know there is a way to do them in GIMP, but I haven't learned that yet. It's probably a lot easier than what I do.

thought I'd try putting the almost perfect avatar up to learn how to do it, but no I'm an idiot and it hasn't worked.

I'm about to lose my internet connection in 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1...

I've been throttled to almost nothing it's taking longer to load a page than to walk to shops for some ciggies and beer. So it looks like I'll be gone til the morning. I really appreciate your help and I'm sure it'll be perfect by the next time I log in tomorrow in about 14 hrs from now.
