"I have always been curious as to HOW this is derived?

Anyone know? "

Its based on whats healthy for the chicken.its about maximizing the product.

Also, most farms in this area use the manure from chickens to fertalize the land.the bones and other pieces unfit for human consumption are ground up into dog and cat food.it's a really efficient thing.

Nah, he spoke of the horrendous treatment of the critters in the plant.

You describe the smell there, brings to my mind a paper plant in Lamabama, heh.

That's just it tho, how is it known how much space a chicken needs?
It's not like how many 5mb files can I fit in a 12gb hard drive, and still have room for the swap file, lol.

Again, not questioning you, bu the people that decide this factor.

Well my chickens never smelled bad. I'd rake out the coop everyday and add fresh straw and water. Like I said before the chickens had the run of the property, during the day. They had plenty of fresh air and the coop had plenty of air circulation.

I dont know the exact way it is figured, but i know its not a lets guess and see thing.
the average chicken house around here i believe is around 10,000.soon as one crop is harvested the next comes in.
The worst thing is for people who live near them, the feed and warmth especially in the winter is Excellent for rats, and farmers have a problem with them.

I think it's a bit naive to say that these are isolated incidents. Amuk works at one farm while there are reports worldwide of human cruelty to chickens.

I dont work on a farm I am in further processing. Sometimes we inspect the slaughter houses and I know dozens of people that run the houses. We are the LARGEST chicken producing area in the WORLD, and I rarely see any thing out of place. And it is my job to find things out of place. Admitedly I am looking mainly for Quality issues but I would report anything like that and so would the Inspectors at the houses.

We dont work for the company we are separate just to avoid conflicts of interest.

In many ways chicken is the perfect crop, minimum space to raise, quick turn around and a nice profit.not to mention the nutrional value,if your hungry chicken ROCKS!!!!

The Colonel started serving his chicken in Kentucky.
Kentucky Governor Ruby Laffoon made Sanders an honorary Kentucky colonel for his contribution to state cuisine.
The first restaurant as Kentucky Fried Chicken in Utah was franchised from Sanders.
The owner of that franchise penned the name.
His burial plot is here in Louisville, in Cave Hill Cametary.

Okay... let's do "just the facts, ma'm."

This was information that PETA captured about goings on in what was mostly one plant. Yes, they have some cruel and stupid people working for them, but that doesn't mean that everyone who works there does this or that it's a plant policy.

The people involved in this were fired (and fined/sued, if I remember... and not by PETA but by the packing plant.)

I agree with some of the things PETA is against, but frankly for the most part I feel they're a bit.... fruitloops. The animals we eat deserve some sort of decent living conditions (I feel sorry for them and tend to eat vegetarian, but acknowledge this as a personal decision.) But some of their actions simply aren't supportable and are dangerous to the animals they are "trying to save."

(case in point was their releasing animals at a fur farm. These were animals that had lived there all their lives and were born to animals that were raised for furs... for many generations. Releasing them into the wild simply meant that they boosted the potential predator population in a local area (stressing the environment) and most starved to death (having no idea what to hunt or how to hunt.))

Yup,its a business, and people who casually abuse or kill the chickens wont be in it long,in all fields, from the hatchery to the finished package truck loaders.plus, farmers are selected and get contracts to raise them,if they cant fulfill the contracts, which is very precise, then they dont have a living.
it's a pretty sweet deal for the farmer actually, the plants give you everything, chickens, feed, and technical expertise.all you have to do is care for them to reach maturity, and have the chicken house and land to raise them.

Agreed, personally i think equating human rights to animal rights is iresponsible.and PETA has been known to all but condone terrorism to get their point across.a chicken is food.a human is your brother or sister,no matter how much you disagree with them.If a chicken would like to come to this thread and weigh in on this topic i may stand corrected.

Ya, what they said !! lol

Peta, I agree wholly with their desire against animal cruelty, but in most scenarios am wholly against their actions.
IE: what was already mentioned, about letting animals go - they contradicted themselves via those actions.

Chicken in the thread, lolol

As to the horror people imagine them to go through, let me tell ya about the average living chicken.they are prob the dumbest animal in the world,if it wasnt for humans farming them, they would be extinct.to say that they have the IQ and self awarness of a rock is being too kind.they dont run from the catchers in terror, they just stand there.or peck at the catchers feet, when they are loaded into the truck cages they just sit there thinkin........Duh..................

Actually according to many studies, chickens are as smart or smarter than domestic cats and dogs. Either way, that's a stupid argument to say that because something is stupid it deserves to die.

No offense, but have you ever hung out with a chicken, not only are they not as smart as a dog or cat,but they arent even as smart as a shoe or sock.i dare say these studies are biased and produced by people trying
to manipulate peoples natural tendency to feel bad for other living things, but the fact is chickens are a major food source, and if we suddenly had a problem in our very mundane lives (econmic depression, war, famine etc) no one would be worrying about the chickens "Feelings".everyone one would say "PASS THE SALT PLEASE".

as to whether or not they deserve to die becasue they are stupid, thats just a fact,in the wild, natural predators are usually alot smarter than their prey, and we are the smartest of them all, becasue instead of just eating them all until they are gone,we figured out how to grow them so we never go hungry.ROCK ON HUMAN REASONING!!!

But can you honostly say that your chicken was as smart as a dog??
Chickens are chickens becasue they are food.Dogs are dogs becasue of the things they have provided us,if chickens were as smart as dogs then they wouldnt be chickens, they would be dogs.
get it??

Thats why we dont ride milk cows and eat horses.or expect our dogs to catch mice and our cats to guard the fort.

KFC has the same policy.

I personally know a manager of KFC that was fired because he refused to cook and sell chickens that were way past the use by date. They were green and stank.

Now you know why they have to put 11 herbs and spices on it.

To disguise the flavour of rotting meat.

By the way, anybody that has worked for KFC will never eat the gravy.

If you want to know why, just ask someone that works there.

I must point out that your arguments are flawed. In countries such as Vietnam, dogs are eaten as if they are chickens in our country. It's a society issue that chickens are viewed as food and dogs are viewed as pets.
