I also disagree with the idea it was vehicles, emergency or otherwise....

There is a point in the in the video where a light can be seen just behind the tree line on the right side of the footage. (about 59 seconds in)...
Even if it is a small helocopter or plane it seems like the clouds are much too far away. I dont see any vehicle lighting up cloud tops like that...

Great catch with the video!, i have no other explanation to offer

What sort of camera setup did you use to film this?
Also, do you know of any landmarks in that direction (football fields, casinos etc) that might be worth taking into the equation?

Only real landmark in that direction is Newark airport. which is probably around 5 or 10 miles away. The camera that was used to film it was my brothers so I do not know the exact model. I filmed this just by holding it in my hand, there was no tripod involved.

Thanks for uploading this video and sharing your story.

I've not seen anything like this, and I have no idea what it is. Surely it could be something mundane, but it appears very mysterious to me. What kind of light source could let off that magnitude, causing the entire cloud to pulsate like that?

I've seen ambulance / police lights in the fog. It can show up pretty well. But it doesn't pulsate like this, and fits the color-code of the lights used on the vehicles. This seems to be one color, am I correct?

Unless ten logging trucks were testing out their brake lights... I just don't know

Yes it was all one orange type of color. It was very bright. It's easily visible in the video but with the naked eye it was more dramatic then what you can see. When I went outside and first noticed it, I was not even looking up at the sky or in that direction at all. As a matter of fact, that part of the sky was mostly blocked by another house from where I was standing and it still caught my eye.

Yes that is a good point. Since Newark airport is in that direction there were many planes flying around in that direction(as there always is). The lights on the aircraft were very very tiny in comparison to where the cloud was. It seemed like the cloud was a considerable distance away.

There are no big emergencies that I know of. I'm sure there would have been a ton of sirens going off. I will keep everyone updated with anything I find out or see.

You live 7 miles from the 37th busiest airport in the world.

My guess is that the lights are coming from the airport.

Cool video though.

I don't blame you for saying it's the airport. However, I've lived here a long time and have never seen any clouds illuminate and pulse like that. I don't understand how an airport could have such an illuminating effect on the clouds like that.

You're videos resemble transformers blowing up and/or lightning. The last one from Portugal is obviously something to do with the electrical grid since when you see the lights in the sky, all the lights in the town go off and it repeats several times.

You are probably seeing the guiding light from Newark and it is reflecting through the cloud.

I have seen the same effect come from Stewart Airport in Newburgh, NY from 10 miles away on I-84 driving east. Sometimes the composition of the clouds are in such a way that the light is magnified while shining into or through them. Water and ice reflect light in crazy ways.

How high is the elevation in that area? Is there a city in that direction or is the clouds are low?

I cant see that being emergency lights reflection but I could see it being possible but probable by looking at the video.

Where there any sound and how long did it last.

(I really want to say it was a UFO with it's hazard lights on with a flat "air-tire" but an ats staff member in a white coat would probably shot me up with something and send me back to my room)

I have seen flare stacks oscillate like this when they are not properly tuned (which happens when the waste product that they are flaring suddenly changes composition or when they have to do an emergency flare). Are there any refineries or oil wells within 30 or so miles? Not saying I'm convinced thats what it is but it does look very similar to what happens with the ones in my area.

I'm on a cell phone so is hard to tell but to me it looks like something ground based and reflecting off of the clouds. Some of those clouds look dark and looks like the light is showing mostly on the whiter clouds which would suggest is on the ground to me. I Just can't tell on my phone. Whatever it is nice video though and thanks for posting.

If it isn't a strobe from the airport,(but you have lived there for years and never seen it before) then maybe a big box store is having a sale or a grand opening and are using a large strobe...seen this many times, and that has always what has caused it. They can point them in many directions not just up.

Any chance a car dealership in your area is having a pre-black friday sale? Or possibly a new dealership? I would check out the local area and see if there were any grand openings, major sales or promotions. Sometimes they go all out with their lights to try and draw in more customers.
