if you look back on 2008 on ATS, similar threads popped up, and just like them, this would be a history.
As a Canadian, i think this is a good thing. Oh well, at least there is LESS chance for Iran to get wiped out of face of earth, and Less chance for America to be Israel's bi**h.

Its okay Auran, wallow in your political doom porn. Rush and Glenn will give you marching orders tomorrow.
On the other hand, maybe, just maybe you'll learn to respect other peoples opinions (even if you don't agree with them) and learn why they voted they way they did. Maybe the people you don't agree with have some knowledge or view that you haven't thought of.
Learning about different things, from different people is good, spinning yourself into a doom spiral because you are listening to the same pundits over and over and over again is bad.
Hope you feel better tomorrow

In Germany (I am born there) we have "democratic socialism". I guess there is also some forms of "democratic socialism" in countries such as Sweden, Norway etc.
Funny, how Germany right now is dominating entire Europe and how wonderful "democratic socialism" works in Norway, Sweden etc. I can tell you, maybe you should visit one day....but prepare for a SHOCK because compared to the hardships in the US and elsewhere, this might look like a surreal Disneyland to you.
And by the way..."democratic socialism"...while having the "oh so hated" name "socialism" in it, is nothing else than capitalism, but with SOME problematic aspects of it addressed and improved.
If you had democratic socialism such as in Norway or Sweden...you would now be the RICHEST, most powerful country on this planet without any of the problems facing America today....
YOUR problem is that you don't see democratic socialism as a chance to improve, but rather as a something negative.edit on 6-11-2012 by flexy123 because: (no reason given)edit on 6-11-2012 by flexy123 because: (no reason given)

If we're still alive?? That really is a bit much. We have seen our fair share of really terrible and really ineffective presidents....and you know what, the USA has survived. Hate the president for all I care, trash him, call him crap if it makes you feel better, that's your opinion and your entitled to it. You however need to have some faith in America as a whole that is populated by people.... America is not the president, or congress, or supreme court. America is people, and we will overcome any collapse, and any bad president that's thrown at us. People who disrespect Americans as a nation are those who are traitorous, not those who simply cast a ballot... People like you.
Stop the hate, channel your anger and frustration for something positive and stop spewing venom everywhere.

The US is NOT Germany or Norway or Sweden and NEVER will be even if "democratic" socialism is forced on us. There is NO comparison.

I am not convinced that one person can make a real difference in this mess were in.
Wasn't completely sure what candidate was better than the other, we know who really rules.
However, I will leave you with a comment I read on an FB post.
"If any of you are voting for or supporting Mitt Romney today, I want you to go find the nearest woman, look her in the eyes and tell her, “I am voting for Mitt Romney because my tax break matters more than your healthcare and well being. I would rather save a few dollars than make sure you continue to have equal pay for the jobs you do. I do not feel guilty about stripping you of your fundamental rights.”
I want you to find the nearest gay couple and tell them, “My personal beliefs mean more to me than your lifestyle. I am perfectly okay with someone legally and forcefully divorcing you for my own selfish views.”
I want you to find the nearest orphaned child and say, “We are going to flood the adoption system and the odds of you getting adopted are going to plummet. We will not allow gay couples to adopt you, and we will cut the support budget for parents that would like to take care of you, making your adoption even more unlikely. You will probably rot in the system until your eighteenth birthday.”
I want you to find the nearest rape victim and tell them, “Your rape was a gift from God. It was meant to happen and you have no right to be upset. With my vote today, I will make sure that the man who forcefully sexually assaulted you will have parental rights over the child you are no longer allowed to abort.” and then kindly realize that your reasons for voting for that awful man are pure bull#"
There are many things at stake, but she has a point.

I proudly voted for Obama. Not just this year but 4 years ago. And '98, and 2000, and '02, and...
Not once did I make the wrong choice. He was a great State Senator for me, a great US Senator for me, and a great President for me. Just because losing has made you lose your fear-addled mind doesn't make those with a differing and educated opinion "traitors". Tone down your rhetoric, it makes you look foolish.
