Yea, with all the doom and gloom, I felt it was appropriate to interject a little humor to this serious situation..

Apparently it's 5 confirmed dead now.
Saw footage on the news of a power plant exploding in New York. No mention of it being a nuclear power plant.
From another site, they are saying that water levels are up to the attic in Staten Island..
Apparently one of the hospitals running on generators is about to lose power because the generators are being inundated with water.
The subway is submerged under 4 foot of water. Which is going to be a massive job to clean up and get it back operating as a result of the salt water.
New York FD evacuated by boat. At least one precinct however is stranded.
NY Stock Exchange is under at least a meter of water....

Bloomberg on the news now talking...and this is live in Australia mind you.
He just said there are many fires as a result of downed power lines.

There are 10,000 calls to 911 per 30 minutes!

Good luck to those in the path of this storm.

They are evacuating the hospital now because the back up generators are not working. That video was I believe a generator exploding!! Word is that NYSE is false, but I dont believe that.....

CNN says at least 10 killed now..

As if the rain and flooding and winds weren't enough, heavy snow is falling in places like West Virginia..

I'm trying to figure out how a hospitals generator system failed??? That's like the one area where they can NEVER fail...

From twitter

Kathryn Schulz ‏@kathrynschulz
Verified, & worst news I've heard so far: NYU hospital generator failed. Personnel manually evacuating PICU & NICU down 9 flights of stairs

I'm now hearing rumors about 4ft of water (and rising) in the subway system... That could be devastating for the city of NY... Losing the subway system could, and would, be crippling to them

I don't think it's rumours..it's been on the news already as I previously posted.

Eitherway, any water that gets down there is bad news. Apparently the salt water is very damaging to the tracks and related components.
And they are saying that it could take as long as 29 days, a month, to pump out the water from the subway system alone. Never mind actually repairing it and getting it running again.
That's going to be a massive shock for the worlds busiest transport system.

Yes, his dm was definitely more concerned about the load. However, he was shut down this morning and is riding it out in Milford, Ct. He said that as of an hour ago the rain had died down, but the wind was still going strong.

Yeh, right. Typical east coast of Australia mentality...everything that happens to you lot is bigger, better, more important then what happens to others. Get over your self.

The floods in Queensland were made worse because of human error/stupidity.
The storm hitting the US at the moment is bigger and worse. They have a major city, a city of far more significant and importance globally then little old Brisbane and the surrounding towns, being flooded by sea water from a storm surge peaking at nearly 14ft...

Queensland floods could have largely been avoided. What's happening in the US couldn't have been avoided..

Just for comparisons sake..your biggest storm, cyclone yasi, is dwarfed by this storm.
This storm in the US, if it were to hit us here in Australia, would stretch from beyond Brisbane to beyond Melbourne..

11 dead

Read how those people died and go back and read what I said about common sense and avoidable deaths. Cause obviously driving in your car in the middle of a hurricane and having a tree fall on you and killing you is clearly something that could have been avoided.

But I'm just talking down to people and have no idea what I am talking about
