Although nothing is going to happen this time, never underestimate a tsunami warning or a possible one. You can have a big surprise, even with a small one.

Yes there are. It is the reason we have tides. But again I am no expert, and this is off topic. Sorry for the derail.

Has the Tsumani report been called off yet. I was just on the phone with my friend who told me that her friends ex is the paramedic chopper pilot and they're taking all the flying machines out of Haida, to higher ground right now, and there was a 7.7 earthquake, with evacuation notice for numerous communities including Bella Coola and tsumani warnings.

So I phoned my ex, and his family, who are often in the interior, but not today, nope, its Bella Coola, and his fahter's a pilot but they can't fly out, its night and raining. And huge mountains all around. Now, here is the thing, its a small valley, with 3000 ppl, tribal police and RCMP, one way out. A one lane steep, dirt road that winds up a 3000 foot mountain. I don't think they would even tell them because it would create a huge traffic jam, you couldn't get that many out on the narrow road.

I asked him to get his father to phone some contacts, since he owns wildnerness plane company and confirm if there is really a tsunami or its been called off.

Because we got stuck up Stewart mountain there an chased by a grizzly bear years ago. There are many tall mountains that they can get up.

He told me that either the earthquake caused this, or I suggested the tsumani, but that the boats were dry docked, in a coastal town relatively close to their area.

The authorities had better be handling this correctly. Because if there is truly a tsuami warning, and I guess there is, and it involves Bella Coola and they evacuating elsewhere, they better have a damned good plan for evacuating Bella Coola, even up a local mountain.

Because heads will roll if they do the wrong thing.

Ya I ignorantly assumed you would be the OP, I seem to do that alot. However, are there any reports of damage? Also, should we expect any serious aftershocks? If so, how long before its unlikely for aftershocks to occur. Im in Oregon and have friends on the coast so this worries me.

I can take a tsunami warning with a grain of salt living where I do.
Those in Tofino and such, yeah man i'd say for sure keep attention.

Of course this has me alerted now to the possibility that within the next 24 hours there could be a 7.0 earthquake inland under us which would be horrible.

there are no gravitational affects due to new/full moon.......only soltice, or seasonal ...nvrmnd.....google is your friend
.....

Yes there is. The sun and moon both have an effect on the tides. When the moon is full, the moon and sun are on opposite sides. When we have a new moon, the sun and moon are on the same side. Both instances affect the tides.

Really??

google.org...

What does that mean then?

It simply means that those in the business of monitoring and reporting on Tsunamis are saying "No Tsunami Threats".

Of course all MSM outlets are going to make this out to be a major disaster, then pull it back when the excitement has died down. Gotta have the sensationalistic ratings if only for 30 minutes.

I'm going with the experts on this one.

Peace

Jude11, your link is for Hawaii only. There are Tsunamis warnings for the west coast of north america.

You're kidding right?

ptwc.weather.gov...

EVALUATION A WIDESPREAD DESTRUCTIVE TSUNAMI THREAT DOES NOT EXIST BASED ON HISTORICAL EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI DATA. THE WEST COAST AND ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER WILL ISSUE INFORMATION REGARDING ANY LOCAL TSUNAMI THREAT TO COASTS NEAR THE EARTHQUAKE EPICENTER. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY BULLETIN ISSUED FOR THIS EVENT UNLESS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE. THE WEST COAST/ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER WILL ISSUE PRODUCTS FOR ALASKA...BRITISH COLUMBIA...WASHINGTON...OREGON...CALIFORNIA.

Just click around. The rest of the World is there as well..

I've just heard a 5 foot wave is hitting somewhere there, but, i think it was Kitimat, not sure,he said a K name, that had boats dry docked, and its up a fjord. I can see a wave building height up a fjord. Bella Coola would be the same boat, so they have better be seeking high ground. I told him to phone tomorrow so I know he's safe, but now I'm freaked right out. If they didn't evacuate or give warning there, but have everyone else, they're going to be in for it. It will be unacceptable, and they'll be facing legal proceedings.

To clarify. Your link was to the Hawaii Tsunami Warning Center which does not issue warnings for the area involved. See below. There have been multiple links posted to these warnings...all of which should have happened or expired by now.

www.ess.washington.edu...

As part of an international cooperative effort to save lives and protect property, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service operates two tsunami warning centers.

The Alaska Tsunami Warning Center ATWC) in Palmer, Alaska, serves as the regional Tsunami Warning Center for Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and California.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, serves as the regional Tsunami Warning Center for Hawaii and as a national/international warning center for tsunamis that pose a Pacific-wide threat.

This international warning effort became a formal arrangement in 1965 when PTWC assumed the international warning responsibilities of the Pacific Tsunami Warning System (PTWS). The PTWS is composed of 26 international Member States that are organized as the International Coordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific.
