I think this is another fascinating mystery that deserves more discussion. I'm not talking about hearing voices in one's head. I'm referring to hearing audible, 'disembodied' voices.
Are they ghosts? Other dimensions 'crossing through' into ours?

Auditory hallucinations are certainly a possible explanation, but what about when two people hear the voice(s)? I heard a very weird story recently. After thinking about it a bit, I decided it was definitely worth a thread. I've seen some comments on similar threads that were really bizarre! People hearing strange utterances coming out of thin air.

At a recent get-together hosted by an old friend, a conversation went from pretty mundane stuff to the paranormal stuff. (probably because Halloween approaches)
I mentioned the ATS website and the variety of topics that people discussed. When I brought up the "hearing voices" topic, another friend shared this experience:

He said that around 10 years ago, he had a friend that he played music with. The friend
had converted his basement to a music room where they could rehearse.
They would get together and play their guitars 2-3 times per week. One evening, after
playing for a couple hours, they turned off their amplifiers and were putting their stuff away. There was a minute of total silence, and my friend was about to make some trivial comment about how playing guitar was fun. Just as he was going to speak, a loud voice
asked "Who are you working for?"

He said the voice was very clear and sounded like it was right between him and his friend
who was sitting about 15 feet away. They both heard it, and they were both freaked out.
(understandably)

Guitar amplifiers can pick up radio signals. I offered that as a possible explanation. He said the amps were turned off. He also said there was no question the voice was right there in the room, coming out of proverbial 'thin air'.

Again, I find this a very mysterious and interesting subject. I invite my fellow ATSers
to share any "voices" experiences you've had, no matter how weird or seemingly nonsensical.

I have had a couple of instances of hearing an external voice.
Only one that really stands out though.

I was sleeping and at 5:55 am a very loud voice yelled from my living room "Dan!! Dan!!! Get up Dan!!"

I jumped out of bed because I thought someone was in my living room and ran into the room and no one was there, the door was locked and the windows were closed. I was supposed to help my step-dad that morning, and he was gonna be there at 6 am. He called about 20 minutes later to say he wasn't going to make it, but that voice sure did make me get up...lol

I think if two people heard the same thing, then it's not an auditory hallucination, but more something you were unaware of at the time. Hearing voices from other places that are not there, is as real as it gets. but if you know the cues then you can be prepared to know it's not real.

I tend to think that anything is possible.

With that being said, I am not superstitious. I have never seen anything that might be considered paranormal, or otherwise unexplainable.

But one time, about 5 years ago, I swear I heard someone whisper my name. I was alone in my apartment, TV, radio, and computer were off.

It was odd.
I suppose I could have imagined it, I don't know.
That was the only weird thing I've ever experienced.

Hearing a disembodied Phil Collin's voice would be enough to send most people screaming from the room!

Voices were heard in the house where I spent most of my childhood. Some nights, I'd hear them in the room below my room when the house was empty or everyone else was in bed. It was the sound of men talking and the sound had the ebb and flow of any normal conversation - lulls, breaks, loud and then quiet. I'd be reading and slowly my attention would be drawn to the background chatter going on below.

I didn't want to hear voices (who would?!) and would leave the radio on so I couldn't hear them. I was never particularly scared and treated it as almost mundane. Saying that, I don't recall having the nuts to go down and see for myself.

Both friends and family heard voices coming from the same room with this time of year being the most frequent. I remember a family friend looking after the house for my parents a few years ago. She'd go in and feed the fish, water plants etc. One afternoon, she went in and could hear voices talking in the room so she opened the door expecting that they'd cancelled the holiday. Nobody in there!

It was a funny old room because the TV would turn itself on from time to time. 2 or 3 times it turned on as I entered the room in the morning. Electrical issues? Yeah, maybe. Who knows? It was the timing that made it all the more remarkable.

Here's my recording of paranormal activity outside. I hear ghost train horns, motor sounds, voices, scratching on the microphone that wasn't me, footsteps and breathing that wasn't me, but there was wind, and the chimes i found out later are real, i live in a quiet suburb by the way.

I want to thank everyone for sharing their experiences. I hope we get a lot more!

This topic has become my current favorite mystery.

One other incident happened when I was in my early teens and was cleaning my dad's car for extra cash. As I was leaning over into the boot/trunk of the car, a female voice shouted my name and I stood up to see who it was. At that moment, a gust of wind blew the boot/trunk shut. Nobody was there and nobody else was home at the time.

As anyone who's read my usual posts knows, I typically side with the scientific explanations and rarely (if ever) favour explanations that appeal to the unknown. For example, explaining unknown voices with unproven ghosts/demons/aliens etc doesn't work for my way of thinking.

However, with people hearing voices, I think it's likely that something unknown is at work and maybe science will identify exactly what that *something* is one day. Auditory hallucinations are fine explanations! However anecdotal evidence that more than one person hears the same thing suggests that not all reports are imaginary.

Ambiguity and suspended judgement are the way to go for now.

I was visiting my friend just a few years back, I had helped them move. We were in one room and I walked into the bathroom which was like 5 feet away. And we both heard a female (sounding) voice say "Where are you going?". And I just thought it was him at the moment and I went to the restroom, came back and asked him if he asked me that and he said "No, I thought it was you." Ironically, it came from between us out of thin air.

I've heard someone calling my name very loud a few times when I was alone... no one was there. I have also heard someone call "Mama!" a couple of times. I would go to see what my daughter wanted. She said she didn't call me.

1st an apology, my stories are always long and overly detailed, I blame stephen king for hooking me in grade school, Ifind Inow talk with similar detail he writes with. In fact my hubby just told me as he heard me typing to "watch my overly verbose buttheadery".... so Iapologize and hope you don't get too bored while reading.

I do have a story to share that has always made me laugh! The house my family used to live in had a 2nd floor stairway that opened into a large playroom, which led to 2 kids` bedrooms. It was,for the most part, a "kids only" zone. My children, then between 3-4yrs, and between 8-9yrs old, reported a womans voice from day one. They occasionally heard her downstairs, usually saying their name. But mainly she was heard upstairs, almost always singing for a minute or two before fading away. The kids were never afraid and seemed to feel safe around her. I myself only heard her sing two lines from SilentNight one day shortly after xmas, my kids mentioned hearing her at least once a week.

That's the background now the story! My hubby always dismissed every account no matter how convincing. One night, with the kids gone on an overnight visit, hubby decided to use the empty 2nd floor to his advantage and headed up with guitar for solo jam session. As I'm playing some random game on computer I'm listening to him playing, when he suddenly stops and calls "what?" I didn't call for him so I don't answer Ijust stop clicking and listen. After a moment he resumes playing and Igo back to my game. Suddenly he stops again and calls "What" again, sounding a bit agitated. Again Iknow it wasn't me so Ilisten but don't hear anything. He resumes playing and almost immediately stops again yelling "WHAT!!!" Now sounding thoroughly ticked off. When he doesn't resume playing Igo to bottom of stairs and call up "honey?" He yells "WHAT!!!" I ask "you ok up there?" He yells something about being fine if id quit interupting him. I tell him this is first time I've called for him. He's quiet. I ask what did you hear? He tells me he heard me or a woman he thought was me, calling his name everytime he resumed playing. I'm giggling uncontrollably now at how unsettled he sounds and how its about time he gets to be the "crazy" one, according to him... i go up and say so you finally heard her huh? He immedxiately begins to explain it away, that it was surely just a reverberation of the chord progression he'd been playing, and decides to play it again to prove me to be a supersticious fool. He's getting more perplexed at each unsuccessful attempt to "debunk" it, and I'm laughing harder with each attempt. I say ok you have fun with that as I head for the stairs. The panic Iheard in his voice as he yelled "wait for me" and hurried after me dropped me to my knees with laughter. I ask, what's the hurry there's no such thing as ghosts nothing for you tobe afraid of! He stammers some feeble excuse how he was done anyway and we might as well walk down together.

My guess is since he heard her calling from downstairs she probably just trying to get him out of the kids area, she seemed to mostly remain up there and feel most comfortable around the kids.

About two years ago on a camping trip with my two teenage girls and my sister, we heard a voice.
My sister was outside cleaning something. And me and my girls were at the table, in the Landrover awning room.
All 3 of us heard a woman's voice call my name. She sounded self assured but calm.
I ask my sister if she had called me. (I didn't expect her to say yes as it didn't sound like her.)
he said no, so I ask the girls if they had heard me, they both said yes. That morning I had had an awake dream, where I was remote viewing people, remote viewing me.

Several months ago I was up replying to ATS (far too late really) and my family was asleep and I heard a raspy male voice loudly whisper through my TV, which was muted at the time, 'DIE'.
I got all goosebumpy but then I got angry and said 'NO you die!!'

My eldest at the beginning of this year heard a woman's voice say to her, in our lobby where she was getting the water filter out, "Are you alright? Help me!". She said she sounded old and young at the same time and although my eldest was a bit concerned, the voice didn't scare her.
(No ghosts in our house, they would bug me too much, I like my privacy and it would have to be moved on.)

A month ago I had come down for breakfast and I knew both girls were still upstairs. I went past the front room and heard a teenage? girl laughing in sheer joy.
I told no one as the day got complicated.
Later in the day my youngest told us she had just heard a teenage girl laughing, in the middle of he front room.. Then I told her what I had heard.

I know why we heard this woman. It was the Earth=Gaia. She was checking her children were alright, (those who can hear her, will hear her as she is talking to everyone) as someone had gone back in time, and turned billions to dust. End of January 2012 back to May 1987. Cosmic War.
We are now in a new timeline.

I have heard bells in my bedroom.

I am a clairaudient, and my girls and I have telepathically heard each other.

Only the raspy voice was malevolent, I discerned it was a demon. They hate me. LOL as I scare them.

YES.

It's happened to me twice now...(very recently too).

I actually started to question my own sanity, coz let's face it..."voices from nowhere" equates to "he's a looney-toon" for most people.

1st Time

This happened roughly a week before the second instance (and about 2 weeks ago from now), which I will discuss in a bit...

I had finished work roughly around 8pm, as I was doing over-time. At this point, I was walking to my car, which was parked out of work and on a main road. Nobody was remotely close by or around me.
As I walked, I heard a faint, but audible cry of "Help..". I instantly stopped and looked around but didn't see anyone.
Now, there are shops close by my workplace, but my car was not parked near any shops and I didn't see a single person on my short walk from work to my car.
It really tripped me out, as I was in a rush at the time to go pick up a friend and my mind was elsewhere. I literally must have stopped in my tracks, done a full 360° and stood in the same spot for a good minute or so, looking bewildered.

I really wanted to help this person, especially since it sounded sincere, and remember feeling bad about walking away (even though I did not find the person who "said" it)...

2nd Time

My cousin, friend & myself were parked outside another friend's house waiting for him, about a week ago at 10pm.
We were parked in a private, residential space situated on a side-road which leads to the back of the houses. I had a few drinks earlier and needed the toilet badly, and ended up getting out the car and walking by an abandoned caravan near some garages.
Pulled my zipper down, and before I starting tinkling, heard a very audible "No".
At this point, I froze and looked around and saw no-one, yet this voice was much more clear than the 1st time...almost like someone was standing next to me when I heard it...(Actually did stop myself from weeing, then realised I really needed it badly and no voice was gonna stop me).

My initial thoughts were that someone was probably in the caravan, or someone in their garden in one of the surrounding houses caught me having a leak.

I've tried to rationalise these scenarios a few times, but I'm still bewildered now as I was those times.

In our last vehicle only, both my wife and I would hear each others voices while driving. It would only happen to the person driving and it would happen both together and apart. It was always random driving instructions like be careful or go slow or just random chit chat things. It only happened in that one vehicle though, never in previous ones and not in our current one. Was never sure what to make of it but always had a bad feeling about that van... Glad we no longer have it.

I've heard my name yelled in my ear as I was drifting off to sleep. That happens even to my skeptic husband so I think in that case it's some biological weirdness. But once I actually caught on tape voices of people moaning and groaning that suddenly materialized around me as I was taping on a cassette player a song off the transistor radio.

I have the tape somewhere I think but it's been misplaced for decades amongst my boxed up stuff. It doesn't matter since the original audio quality was awful to begin with, since the equipment was a cheap Radio Shack mono cassette recorder and the recoding medium was a horrible cheap Certron brand cassette tape. We are talking late 1970's technology on a poor family's budget.

But when the tape was fresh I could make out enough of those dreadful sounds to know it was NOT imaginary. I heard and it felt like a bunch of dead people were behind me doing their best zombie impression. Creepy sounding moans and groans, no distinct words at all. I could feel them there, that was the worst but I didn't dare turn around to look. And I was too curious to drop everything and run like hell out of the room.

My husband was building my daughter's house, located right across the driveway from ours. He had it in the dry and the stairway finished to the second floor.
Hubby needed a hammer to do something for me at our house so I volunteered to go to Lisa's to get it from the stairway where hubby left it.
I picked up the hammer and suddenly heard two men talking. As hard as I tried, I could not make out what they were saying but they were having a regular conversation with pauses and all. Then all of a sudden I had this feeling---have you ever walked up on a private conversation and the people stop talking? I had the feeling that they were just then aware of my presence.
I didn't feel threatened, I went upstairs to look and there was no one. The stariway was the only way up and down from the bedroom and bath. No one could have been there because the only other way out is to jump out of the window and it would probably kill someone to jump. I don't know what that was but I am not crazy.
