Does anyone seriously believe that the CIA would put out a truthful statement is these circumstances?

"No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”

You think the CIA is gonna tell the truth and say, "We told them to not help"? Hell no.

You think the CIA is gonna deny telling people to stand down? Hell yes.

Think about it.

Why are we even listening to--debating--what he CIA has to say about it?

As far as we know, it *was* the CIA telling them to stand down to facilitate the entire crap slinging scenario we're seeing being passed around...

Think about it.

Well, look it up. It is available on non-Fox MSM. The flash messages, cables and emails went out when the attack occurred. All quiet up until then.

The POTUS attended a meeting an hour and twenty minutes into the attack with Leon Panetta and NSA. They had access to those messages, plus real time video of the next 5 and a half hours of the attack.

No, we're not actually.

Or are only Americans allowed to discuss this issue which could go on to affect the rest of the world?

So, when something goes right the President gets the cookie, but when something goes wrong then he is just a puppet that is out of the loop and toothless? We can't have it both ways. Obama was practically there(lol) when they killed Osama and he risked the lives of the troops by sending them in without 100% confirmation, but suddenly a live video feed and a SOS flash message are "conflicting intelligence"? Riiiight.
That's not the kind of leader I want.

It's interesting that he dismisses the questions until a review is done, but he didn't hesitate for the review to blame the freedom of muslims video.

Then you haven't been paying attention. Petraeus has been rumored for the last 6 years to be a future GOP pick for the White House. This is entirely consistent with those aims. If he believes Obama will lose to Romney then he is likely to toss him under the bus.

Interestingly enough, that doesn't make the flash messages and emails disappear, does it?

If the rest of it proves to be true, the POTUS and all of his people can backpedal some more.

The emails... first one said they were under attack, next one said it was over, next one said attacks resumed. I haven't heard anything about flash messages.

For me, it was all there in the intangibles in the rose garden speech with Hillary behind Obama. What I saw was that they had both screwed up badly. Obama had his chin up for the cameras, Hillary was trying to be more stone faced, but they both just had such tangible guilt and failure and shame all over them. They knew it was all their fault. It was there in their emotions, in the way they carried themselves and sounded.

What is coming out now is just fitting in with that take so well.

The narrative that best explains everything is just the terribly ordinary one of incompetence, of bungling, of badly mishandling a real time developing situation to the point of watching people die for it. Most of all, of just failing to act, of failing to make the right call. The White House hit the brakes because they wanted more time to figure out what was going on. They blew it.

I don't see any evidence of the thinking you are claiming to have done. It looks more like imagination to me. Imagination can come up with all sorts of stuff, because there are plenty of gaps in the limited information we have from our civilian perspectives.

But I have thought about it and it's just not something soldiers do. It has to have come from the political people.

Mostly I think it's a question of whether the political people had some motive for letting them die, or whether they just dropped the ball, and I strongly lean towards the latter. They probably didn't pay enough attention to what was going on at first, then wanted more info, and by the time they got their arse in gear, it was all over.

Why would the CIA be actively involved in toppling Libya and then leave the US ambassador to die when he is going to be a key part of making the new regime a success? The experts on places like Libya are not numerous and it's a major blow when they lose a guy like Chris Stevens.

What bothers me the most about the obvious reluctance to react militarily when attacks American soil is under attack, what will this administration do if we are nuked? It is entirely possible that suitcase nukes are already in the U.S. and ready to go. It is entirely possible that Iran will nuke Israel. There are numerous scenario's that could happen that would require quick response. Will this administration allow the destruction of America and give no military response? It certainly looks that way to me. America is more vulnerable now than it has been in many decades. We apparently have no real, decisive leadership in place.

The President of the United States is "just the face" of the country. The position is meant more for looks than actual work. Neither Democratic or Republican Presidents have actually made a hill of beans difference. The President "can" make suggestions, but everything needs approval of the Congress, House and Military before things get moving along.

Sorry Des, have to disagree big time. Claiming the POTUS is a helpless, spineless puppet is just not true. They're not just a face. People need to remember that a POTUS has Executive Order power. It has been used by Washingtion, Obama and many presidents in between. If anyone would like to see what the current and past presidents have done with their executive power, then check out the link below.

I didn't write the post you responded to. But I did respond to it one post below it. I agreed 100% with you, in my reply to funnychick. Just clearing the confusion....

This was my reply to funnychick, the post you thought I wrote.

Then...I think you need to let Obama know this. He can put his Executive Order pen away now....

The fact of the matter is, whatever he decides he wants in play, if no one else agrees with him, he signs another executive order to *make it so*....

Why isn't this in the hoax bin?

The source is a blog, and there is no link to a legitimate article.

Oh, well, only people foolish enough to buy the whole birther line would buy this story.

What do you mean by *whole story * Are you saying our American Consulate was never attacked by terrorists. Ambassador Stevens is still alive, along with 3 other Americans. Our President never spent 2 whole weeks spewing out a lie as to the cause of the attack, according to you, never happened. What part of any of that is tied into any birther line...yes, tell me that please.....

Sheesh.....

Actually, my statement is "whole birther line".

I don't think the president makes military decisions, other then saying yes, or do it or something like that.

I doubt if anything could have been done to save the ambassador in Libya than was done.

This thread is pure nonsense, and should be in the hoax bin. It is below ATS standards.

If Petraeus wanted to throw Obama under the bus, he would have done it long ago.

I think it is pathetic that the right wing is trying to make fodder out of this tragedy. The repubs in control on 911 were so incompetent they couldn't protect our capital and largest city from a terrorist attack, yet we are supposed to freak out because terrorists succeeded in taking out an ambassador in Libya?

The White House could have put a stop to this from day 1

Ok, you go ahead and tell us all the "truth".

Please back up everything you tell us with official releases from US intelligence agencies.

I think what you and others don't get is that the investigation is still ongoing, the "truth" is not yet known. Obama has been giving the American public the current intelligence assessment that he has.

The only mistake Obama made was thinking Americans would be more interested in knowing the best current assessment the intelligence community is giving him rather than trying to use dead Americans as political pawns.

You don't get it, do you??

Why blame the video from the start IF they didn't have all the intel????

You said yourself, "the investigation is still on going"......So, why say any thing other than "No comment until further review". That simple.

All they had to due was state that 4 people died but due to incomplete information at this time, we can not comment any further.... or some thing along that line.

But there are clips of all of them from day 1 blaming the video and arresting the man for it.
Soooo.......my point is if they didn't have all the information about what really went down at the beginning, why comment at all.
If they had thought it out before hand and gotten on the same page about what to say or not say, maybe it wouldn't have been as bad

As I said before, all administrations have some kind of scandal, this just happened to be on Obama's watch.

And I feel personally that if this administration had handled this better and kept their mouths shut about the video, and kept with a simple "No comment" or "at this time we can't give any details", then it wouldn't have blown up in their faces as it has now.

If they don't know what the "truth" is now, why did they even mention the video then?
And now, as details are coming out, they're having to back peddle....
It just doesn't make any sense....

And my opinion has nothing to do with Obama personally [I voted for him in 2008...but not this time]
This has to do with a bunch of people that appears like they have a serious communication problem among themselves.
And the President is one of them. Some one either is not keeping him up on what's going on or he's not listening to his advisers.

Either way, this is no ones fault but theirs.....

Just my opinion.....

P.S. This is not to anger you but to try to explain how come I feel the way I do about this fiasco....

Much respect~~

incompetent just isn't a big enough word for this fiasco.
atm, i am ashamed of this administration in more ways than i can verbalize ... shame to the whole dang bunch of 'em.

i gotta wonder ... with 5.5 hrs of a live video feed (which i don't find unusual or surprising -- Bush said he was "watching" the 1st plane strike the towers, remember ??) ... does anyone really think he or his minions are going to willingly admit he screwed the pooch and abandoned our troops over a popcorn lunch ??
