Actually, the easiest way to get a heap of flags and stars is to open a thread with the words, "The lord is my shepherd, I shall not want" and then continue to kiss "God"s posterior.

I've seen it happen.

I sell my stars and flags on the black market as they are as good as gold (like the trim they put around our posts) then you have to have a good avatar too. Get a mean looking avatar and intimidate people into giving you stars and flags.

You also have to change your avatar every 7 and a half minutes, that works a lot

You are forgetting that one of the rules of economics is that people respond to incentives. Without a star system, people will be less apt to post worthwhile comments, and then this whole site falls apart and it will become your AVERAGE Forum of thought.

ATS hasn't always had stars. ATS used to be 3 separate site sections, ATS, (Below)BTS and (Political) PTS. Your posts were tallied and separated by site on the post count. No stars, no likes. I believe the site did just fine at the time. However, it seems how the net has changed doing away with stars will drive away people who enjoy that.

I've got one:

-Look for duplicate threads and post something like: "This has been posted already (link original thread). Why don't you use the search function next time? " and proceed to make fun of the OP.

I hope nobody. I would prefer we just have a post count and stars/flags were kept private. I think we would see more honest opinions personally. I dislike that the star system seems based around agreeing with people and not what they actually have said.

I don't like Obama. I would rather give a star to someone who made a compelling argument about why he is a good president than someone who just says 'I'm not voting for him 'cause Muslim.'

And the being a girl comment.. never heard so much bs.. the majority of people with the most flags and stars are male.. so kinda blows that theory out of the water..

There are a lot of creepy basement dwellers here that seem to get a little creepy with the female posters. I have noticed a few that get blanketed with stars for rather banal posts.

Anyway have a sneaky suspicion the real reason of this thread is just to gain stars and flags anyway

The search function on ATS sucks...this needs to be changed so that anyone trying to post something that is current doesn't show up on the fourth page in search function...rather, on the first page.

Yup. Page 4 here has a total of four stars.

Page 1 has 91.

Or the "Recent Posts" page. I've seen several threads with the same title posted pile up on there. I know the search sometimes doesn't bring up results, but I'd check the recent posts if I want to post something that I've just come across (like news).

Remember the Baltic UFO? dozens of threads with the "don't know if it's posted before, didn't find anything in search" when it came up with just those 2 keywords. Sometimes people don't even bother using the search.

Great idea. This "system" is new to me as a new member. How would one go about making this suggestion? If "we" all send an email to the owner could this become a possibility?
