I have posted this video to this thread but figured that I should start a new thread about the topic.

This video, whether valid or not, is claiming that the Amanda Todd suicide story is just a farce. A media scheme.

My questions to the entire ordeal or these:

How did everyone on her facebook know that she drank bleach?

How was her name supplied and then used by the media after she was dead? She was a minor and her name should have never been revealed.

Again, why would the cops show up at her house to tell her photos of her boobs that SHE released were circulating the internet?

After being jumped by kids at school, why weren't there any charges pressed on the attackers by her parents?

What does the rest of ATS think?

I believe that she was a real person that died but i do not believe the story she tells in that youtube video. Like the cops just show up at her house at 4am? "Excuse me little lady we just thought we would let you know that your child pornography went viral, just thought we would let you know good night" really? Now keep in mind the cops were able to identify the girl through a picture of her boobs and from what we can tell they made no attempt to track down the people that were posting child porn.
Somehow everyone at her school knew that she drank bleach in an effort to kill herself- how did eveyone know about this right after it happened?
The blackmailer threatened to show everyone a picture of her boobs when everyone was already harassing her about it?

I made sure to at least question the validity of the Anon video in my OP.

What I find puzzling is the fact that this girls family would just uproot everything and move from the original school district so that she could be away from her abusers instead of having police in the area take care of any trouble making kids or trying to get to the bottom of her nude photos online.

What if this family faked her death?

And I must ask. If you were planning on killing yourself, would you be smiling while opening your heart and soul to youtube looking for help?

If everyone on every website everywhere in the damned universe would STOP feeding this BS maybe these kids wouldnt do this garbage for posthoumus upvotes and popularity. I dont know, I just think its sick. Sick( truly ill) of the kid to need this sort of attention and sick ( truly disgusting) of the rest of us to feed into it and enable it. Promote it even.

My honest opinion?

I thought it was.. not a hoax, that word is too harsh... but an "untruth"... I don't believe the character or events were or are real.
Just a hunch I had when I watched it, can't explain more than that so I'm not surprised by these claims.

I have provided a link to the Montreal Gazette article about Amanda Todd. I do not claim to know the whole story, I am only providing this as proof that Amanda Todd was real and did commit suicide. The details leading up to that are hard to prove one way or the other. The following is an exceprt form that article:

It is bully awareness month, I personally cant say one way or another if this story is made up or not. One thing that does cause me to question it tho is where were her parents? how does a 13 year old girl gt enough free time on the internet to be flashing strangers? i have a 13 year old and she would never do it in the first place and i most certainly would be keeping tabs on her, computers in the living room for a reason.

Why were her parents not regulating her facebook account? I occasionally go on my daughters page and skim thru comments on her page to be sure there is no funny buisness, also have her password so i can check personal messages.

If she was being tormented on the internet and facebook why in hell would her parents allow her to still keep a facebook account. Especially after the first move and there were obvious sighs of abuse and bullying.

My daughter comes home with bruises, you can bet your sweet ass im going to find out who, how and why it happened and if the cops did nothing i would pay a personal visit to their parents.

!3 having sex? that's scary for me luckily my daughter still grossed out by kissing, how do i know? her mother and i talk to her about sex at least once a month. Getting beat up for sleeping with some body's bf definitely going to be having a talk with my child. Im not being ignorant to the fact that children have sex at younger ages these days and that this girl is not the only one, but some guy called and wants you to come screw him and you say yeah? major issues for me.

I believe there were many opportunities for the family and this young lady to take control of the situation, sadly I don't think there was much of a family for her at home. She was obviously looking for attention in any way she could find, unfortunately there are many sick people in this world that just took advantage of her at every chance.

I still feel the parents are responsible for the incident they could have contacted police hired lawyers gone to the school taken her to more counseling or # just payed attention to her to know that her young life was falling apart around her. Yes moving could of helped the situation but allowing her to stay on facebook where the same POS's could still torment her as well as spread the bs to the new friends she met that would have joined the page is a big red flag.

Could it all be staged for some stricter internet policing wouldn't doubt it for a second. Was there many many opportunities that could have saved this child if the story is true, oh hell yeah.

What I don't understand is how the person that she flashed was able to keep tabs on her even with her moving numerous times.

I am assuming that Amanda and her friends were using web chat sites like omegle, chat roulette, or cam zap, so how could a complete and random stranger on one of those cam sites could get information on this girl?

I know nothing about online hacking or anything like that so all of this goes over my head. How did her stalker keep finding her even when she changed names on facebook?

Could it be done through her IP address?

Or maybe she was stupid enough to give out personal information.

I agree it feels like it's very possible there is more to the story. I definitely don't blindly accept the account listed in the video at 100% face value regardless.

While I am happy that you are doing what you can, you just don't know what happens with a friend's ipad on a different social network than Facebook when you aren't around.

That's the truth of the internet. Thinking you've got it locked down because the PC is in the living room and you read Facebook is just as naive as someone who doesn't realize webcams let kids be naked for strangers online.

It's the educating the child more than the control mechanisms that have lasting and effective results. The control mechanisms just give room for the kid to be clever if they really want to get away with something.

Parents just don't want to accept their kids are going to do what they want to do and there is nothing they can do about it except give them the best and most honest and useful information available and to be readily available rather than judgmental so the kid doesn't turn to the internet for advice first because their parents "don't understand" or are "too controlling".

Saying your child "would never do it" is actually a red flag to be honest because it means there is an automated blind spot that isn't open to the clues that might hint that they in fact are but are being clever.

Well I admit this is the first I have heard of the girl.

If the story is true it is tragic, however on the other hand I and pretty cold hearted and bias when it comes to suicide. It has affected my family and other families I know.

That being said since this is the first I have heard of the girl, now it is difficult to know if any of it is real or not. I hope it is just some staged drama to help with the awareness of bullying, and to give young ladies a second thought on posting things online.

Even though the internet is relatively young so to speak it would seem obvious to me that posting online means it is there to stay regardless if the original is gone or not. Someone out there has it saved or reposted.



When it comes to teens though it seems brains are seldom involved. Being a teen once I know that hormones kick in more than rational thought ever could. Being a teen in the US (and I am sure much of the western world) is certainly strange. That is if one considers that in many countries children are living a far more adult based life and not stuck in the whole "world is crashing because of one event OMG". I am not saying they are more mature as science has shown that the brain is still developing into the early twenties. I am saying though that their world is different and maybe less shallow than that of a western teen. I do not mean shallow in a derogatory manner when saying that, it is just the best word I could think of to fit in.

I have been following this story since it first broke in the news. All I can say is there has been a lot of information taken out of context and misconstrued. First off..this really did happen, and sad those who think her family would fake her death for any reason. Not really a brilliant idea to involve mass media if you planned to succeed at that.
What I see, is a girl who was very naive in her first experiences with strangers on the internet. It led her to expose herself not just physically, but emotionally. But it didn't end with that. This person sent that photo to EVERYONE she knew. That's how her schoolmates found out. That's how police became involved. Her parents moved her, changed schools, got her counseling, but nowadays you cannot hide , because your mistakes are online for all to see. Her second tragic mistake and the one that ultimately led to her passing, was what MANY girls go through daily. That's where the school bullies came into the picture. So she's targeted online, targeted in real life..no wonder she felt so damn helpless. But don't for one minute put the blame on her.
The anon video, imho..is stating that the disclosure of the person responsible, was the farce, not Amanda's story itself. They used her death to lure out and punish child predators. (If it is an actual Anon video).
It sickens me, that there could be any speculation that this story is untrue.
There is a candlelight vigil this Friday in my town where a member of Amanda's family resides. I plan to be there and take my 16 year old daughter. Some of us need to ensure this beautiful girl's passing is remembered and that she didn't die in vain. HOW MANY KIDS have to take their own life before we say "Enough".
