Just clarifying that this is NOT the first time in 22 years that this has happened. Bush's Administration blocked the sale of US Ports to Dubai a few years ago if I remember correctly.

Personally I don't really understand why step in now and block this sale. They've come in an purchased so much of our infrastructure and corporations thus far, what's one more wind farm?

You are a little confused Bush was all for selling the ports to Dubai.

Dubai Ports World controversy

U.S. President George W. Bush argued vigorously for the approval of the deal, claiming that the delay sends the wrong message to U.S. allies. Legislation was introduced to the United States Congress to delay the sale.

Obama did the right thing stopping this deal. Way too much of America is already owned by foreign countries and it needs to stop.

I would be wondering if they added a black box to the wind turbines that collected electronic data.

The other problem is that there are only two control rooms that run all the wind turbines in the US. i know the ones in calif are run from a site in Florida of all places.(i have friends that work on them)

All the commercial wind turbine in the US are run by internet and if china had the right program data on operation they could take over control of all the wind turbines and if they wanted cause them to all over speed and self destruct by overriding the pitch and brake control setting.

I'm all for stopping all foreign ownership of US companies NOW.

By 2033 51% of all American Companies will be owned by other countries if the current trend continues. This should really matter to those of you with kids. You will be leaving a country owned mostly by other countries by the time the kids are 20. With lobbying, or worse - they could effectively take over the U.S. Government.. No more America.

Is that what you want for your kids? Not to mention the loss of American jobs.

He's not the greatest president we've ever had, but this was the right thing to do

I agree, I am so confused because of the media and and hearsay. #1 Who cares if he was born outside of the United States. The man best fit for the job should have it, and it seems like he has stabilized our economy at least. This was definitely the right thing to do. I think he has done a lot of work behind the scenes that aren't big news that are growing like a flower and will bloom shortly. I already had my house payment reduced by $400 because of Obama, not sure if I would still have it-hats off to you Mr. Obama.

Also he is trying to help the people yet they are looking the other way. I would say the only fuel people still have to bad-mouth Obama is the fact that he came in our lives riding a big white horse and told us he would get the troops out of office, then 6 months later he was like: "Uhmm well I have decided that we really need ($$$) those troops over there for a short time"-it was like someone had a talking too with him and told him how things are gonna work or else. All in all I would take Clinton or Obama anytime. They all have protected our land. Imagine if we had a really weak president that gave up all our weapons. What do you think the rest of the world would do? THey would try to take our land, that is what we were taught in history right?

If so, Obama has effectively told an American citizen who he can sell his business to and who he can't.

Half way in the middle on this one as it sets a dangerous precedent IMO.

And it looks like the purchase was already made. So the dictator is telling the foreigner to move on. Unless I see this wrong.

Peace

Yeah, domestic sales are fine, but if you sell to a foreign company, there is a chance it could threaten national security.

Edit: What if a middle eastern country wanted to buy into the US. Do you think Obama would be fine with that? Most foreign countries have enough money to purchase these wind farms. However, if there is a dollar amount the farm could have been sold for and now was blocked....the solution should simply be for the wind farmer to sell domestically at a lower price, and the lost value be refunded to the farmer by the government.

Who cares? Its written in our constitution? Reduced mortgage payment....to fund his own agenda and not let loans default......Balanced the economy? No....economy is still doing like #, printing out more money doesn't fix the problem. Look at all the facts about the economy...about our education system....everything. He's not a great president. Blame Bush and the republicans all you want but he still will never be considered a great president

But yes this was a good decision, we Americans shouldn't live in a country owned predominantly by China....of all countries. One who is filled with human rights violations. Make a profit...at what cost? They raped their own land and treats its own citizens like #. Allowing them to buy up the major businesses in the US would be dumb. Not just cause its a security threat, but because of what they represent.

C hinese purchase of wind farms in Oregon blocked by President Obama

For the first time in 22 years, a U.S. president has stopped a foreign business from locating in the United States. National security risks is the reason given for blocking four wind farm projects slated for northern Oregon near a Navy installation used to base unmanned drones and electronic warfare planes on training missions, according to the Huffington Post.

Tensions between the U.S. and China have been increasing and this is bound to be another aggravation. Obama ordered Ralls Corporation which is owned by Chinese nationals to relinquish its interest in the wind farms that it had purchased earlier this year.

The president has the final authority to prohibit foreign activities.....

I'm not sure where I stand on this one.

On the one hand I see why the President called them on it regarding possible national security issues. On the other, here we have some people investing money into the economy and providing jobs.

Talk about Americans caught in the middle...

Thoughts?

This is actually a good thing.

China has bought alot of stuff in the US. Texas, they bought 600,000 acres of oil and gas rights. 600,000 acres is a average size of a county in Texas.

They are setting up free trade zones all across the US, which give them diplomatic immunities on our soil in many regards.

They are buying up infrastructure slayer.

Are you a Marine?

If you are, let me put it another way.

Look at Israel, and what is happening in Palestine right.

Their reasoning for moving into Palestine continually is their "structures" there. There physical structures.

Same with China.

They will eventually probably bring troop over as well, to SECURE their interest.

Do we not have enough foreign troops on our soil?

I think so.

Considering that the entire US Military is mostly deployed, or at least the 250 thousand combat ready troops are. The only thing left in the US then, while all of these foreign military personal are here, is pencil pushers within the Military, and logistics, etc.

Sounds like to me our Military and Government are to busy empire building, while we are being invaded at home.

You know, all of those wind farms as well, were said to be to produce cheap electricity to the US. But, mostly, the wind farms have been selling the electricity to other countries, and states.

In Texas, some of the largest farms are selling their electricity out of state, when they said they were going to use the produce of electricity for Texas.

So what happens then when China buys them all out.

Will China sell us pricey electricity from our own shores?

This is no rock and hard place choice for Americans.

Just not the thinking Americans that is.

And the answer is NO.

Anymore forieng interests come here and set up shop, then its time to start running sabotage operations against them.

Because ones like myself are not being fooled any longer with these "carrots".

yes he did..what if Intel wanted to sell computer chip secrets to the chinese... i guess you would be all for that.
business doesn't give a damn about america, they are ALWAYS trying to find ways to cut their workforce, they are ALWAYS trying to avoid taxes, they are ALWAYS trying to avoid regulations, they care about profit, nothing more...and that is the context in which we should be treating our poor, misunderstood, businesses.

This is a very, very good thing.

If corporations had their way, they would sell our entire country, and our children would find themselves slaves on the land our ancestors conquered.

What we need to do is end all foreign ownership of land in the US.

Newt screwed us all when he got laws passed to allow foreign companies to buy media outlets in the US.

As someone else stated, "Damned if you do, damned if you don't."

I'm sure Romney's bottom-feeding supporters will latch onto this as another way to attack Obama.

I on the other hand, think that the Chinese own quite enough of our debt, etc. No more.

Doesn't matter if they own our debt or not. If America goes down, then so does China. Its a global economic crisis

If the state decides that they want to have business with China is nothing they can do, so far California is been bought by China and I don't see anything about the government meddling into this. All the state has to do is relocate the property that is close to the airspace restrictions.

States are Republics and the president can file against the states deals but at the end is up to the state residents to make the last call.

Or, the supreme court at the end.

This has nothing to do with Obama been so good or anything else is just a law that is part of national security when it comes to military bases on federal land.

As I stated in the OP I can see both sides of this issue and am not sure where I stand. You know, I'm old enough to remember many of these same types of arguments against Japan and Japanese purchases back in the late 70s and 80s.

However, with China it is now considered a real National Security issue because their economy is possibly going to over take the US in the future and they are not playing along with the US like Japan did.

So...

Sorry but I went back to the OP and read the article to the end, it has to do with an old law that US have when it comes to buying land around Military bases with restricted air space that span beyond the property.

So yes the president can opposed this type of land use due to laws that protect this air spaces.

No because he is protecting a darn thing like jobs.

All the state has to do is find land somewhere else and relocate the wind farm.

The issue with that is that the location in question is perfect for wind farms.
They should relocate the base and let commerce proceed.

No?

No, the base will no relocate that is federal land and off states powers, but the wind farm could, now that will be at great expenses.

I bet is many other states that can support wind farms and will welcome chinas investors with open arms, this is been going on already since foreign investors were allowed to come to US and invest in states that will welcome them.
