As the wizard of Oz said, "now this is a horse of a different color".... Lakota Sioux Nation is in Secession from the US Government and we are all invited. What is Obama going to do now? It would be entirely politically incorrect for President Obama to oppose the Lakota Tribe but the problem is Americans have been invited to become Lakota Tribesman...

cnsnews.com...

“We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us,” long-time Native American radical leader Russell Means said. The move potentially impacts the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.

Will the US Government be forced to use force??????
What do you think this will mean to all States and Peoples?
This will test exactly what this Government is prepared to do and if our men and women in uniform hold allegiance to the Government or those those who feed the Government.

I wonder if they will give out free cell phones like in Ohio...

They just won't recognize them as a Sioux nation. They'll also try and keep it quiet and then after the election be more forceful, make sure they know they are not seperate. Meanwhile The Sioux would have to really know what they are doing and make everyone know what they are doing and then get mass support, which I don't see happening, and if they did become a seperate nation, the US would just invaded them with the Army, and take back "Our land"

I'm part Sioux.. I wanna join. I'm also part Cherokee hence me being stuck way over here in North Carolina.. Not sure what kind of laws they would have, but it's gotta be better than going down in the sinking ship of good ol USA right? Maybe?

That's very awesome, actually. I'm a little too far north to be part of their tribe, but if I were in one of those states, I would consider becoming an adopted member of their group.

The United States will do nothing, except make sure this story gets as little publicity as possible.

The original natives of Texas were called "Tejas", their word for "friendly"....see where it got them!

Later tribes which were not as friendly were the Comanches, and where I live, Apaches. I would like to see them rise up and do something similar, rather than get their revenge on the white man by screwing them over at the casinos.

We are all hungering to return to living in harmony with the land and the elements. They could lead the way, the time is right for it.

I wish them well. I find this idea rather appealing, actually.
If I lived in the area I would seriously consider joining them.

I'm ready to go tribal at a drop of the hat. We, as Americans could learn a great deal, better than the way things are going now. f&s

I think anything that draws attention to the conditions of Native Americans in this country is a good thing. Our government has systematically tried to eradicate a culture and people, by any means possible. The abuse has not ended and continues to this day. I don't see this ending well, but I would like to see them take it to the courts. Unfortunately even Native Americans are divided on this issue.

I work on a reservation and I wouldn't be too quick to want to emulate them. it's nice that they value nature (as do I) but after seeing how poor, uneducated and lazy most of them are, and how many problems they have I wouldn't want to live with them.

I've never liked the USA, that much. I never wanted to buy things, and periodically seem to lose all my possessions. Never got a driver's license, because I like walking everywhere. I was actually depressed when I got to around 6. I already knew this life wasn't meant for me, and why was I trapped here? I decided I wasn't going to participate in this silly culture.

It used to be my dream to be a full blooded Indian medicine man, and giving up on that I wanted an Indian father figure like guy to come find me and say something like "It is time." And then I would leave with him and just be with nature, which was the the one I always loved, not the USA.

But that was all fantasies and now I'm in a serious relationship some 20 years later. Stuck in culture. Stuck in time.

The worst thing that ever infiltrated our the Native Families of this Land is Alcohol and Dollars. For far to long both have twisted and placated the Proud and Original Peoples of this land and I pray that this will be a wake up call for them. Once you receive monthly paychecks from casinos and such it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for most to give up $$$. Not only are the Native American People in a fight against the addiction to easy money but here in California many Californians are hooked on the Food Stamp and Low income support that fosters generation after generation of people who become more and more ignorant and more and more dependent...

This wasn't always their way.. It's their way after being around white people too long until they have lost their history. Maybe they could eventually restore their old ways with so much land?

But yea I know what you mean. You should have seen the look on peoples faces when I asked where all the alcohol was not realizing I was within Cherokee land (alcohol not sold anywhere there). They looked at me like I was dumb, I bet they thought I lived there.

I support their cause.

I hope some of the local militia come to their aid.....maybe we can ge the ball rolling on our revolution as well, I'm tired of the acclimation into tyranny......I'll support any citizens who will stand up to our Government.

While I think this would be a fantastic event if it really happened, I have to break it to you that is has not happened. The video in the sourced article was from 2008 and the CNS article you posted sources the info coming from a totally unreliable website called La Voz de Azatlan out of Mexico. I did a quick search of that questionable website and found no current article on this supposed event.

Think about this for a minute.. you posted Means' facebook page.... don't you think if this was an actual event happening now or having recently happened he would have it posted all over his facebook page? Even his own websites RussellMeans.com and RussellMeansFreedom.com do not have this would be historical event listed.

I'm sorry to be the one to have to bring everyone back down to earth here, but it simply is not happening..... as awesome an event it would be.

I understand how you feel entirely, I love the simplicity of life I get tired of all the modernized clutter sucking the beauty out of it....

I have to participate in this world to get by, however if I had my choice....I wouldn't.

Sometimes I try to indulge in the simplest things like nature, because its more satisfying to me then all the material posessions anyone can own.

I hate to be the wet blanket on his rain dance, but he's being absurd and an idiot. I have every respect for the Native American culture and peoples.....despite what the conditions of a few decades have done to them in several areas of the nation. However? This??

It's interesting that Wounded Knee be a part of his direct past, as we can look to that as to how far this is likely to get. A lot of noise and a lot of trouble, potentially, with a bloody finish...likely...and moving on to the next crisis on the front page when it's over. Nothing really changed and nothing much better for anyone.

I also don't see much for specifics.

When the Indians of New York got their backs up hard over taxes in the 90's, they very seriously threatened to sever the High Tension lines crossing tribal land between Buffalo and Erie. I recall those days as the company I was running for had it's trucking nearly living in the Northeast. The big bonfires they had burning along I-90 at night in protest and to make a statement were spooky.

When Arizona/New Mexico tribes got THEIR backs up about taxes and the Casinos, they threatened to shut down I-40 and either keep it closed or set their own tolls for passage across Tribal lands.

Those actions got attention and brought REAL action from the Government. Concessions in both cases, as I recall the outcomes.... This looks like a P.R. statement so far?
