In New York, defiant Ahmadeninejad says, Israel will be eliminated

(Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Monday disregarded a U.N. warning to avoid incendiary rhetoric and declared ahead of the annual General Assembly session that Israel has no roots in the Middle East and would be "eliminated."

Iran has sent arms to Syria, they have sent arms to Lebanon. They have also sent arms to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Iran also wants nuclear weapons anyone else think that isn't the case I got some swamp land to sell them,.

Iran "has been around for 7-10 thousand years" just pay no attention that Iran changed its name after Hitler visited it.

Pay no attention that Isreal has "no roots" in the region"

Really an asinine comment to make there from Ahmedinijad among many ignorant comments.

After the UN today Ahmedinijad was off to meet occupy wall street,

Then we have this comment :

We don't even count them as any part of any equation for Iran. During a historical phase, they (the Israelis) represent minimal disturbances that come into the picture and are then eliminated," he added.

Since they are not a threat why the comment of eliminating the zionisits?

Someone treating to eliminate Israel has been going on for most of my life. If you want to get some one attention it would be far more attention getting to say when has some one not been threatening to destroy Israel. These threats now are no different from all the rest.

Sure, Ahmadinejad is easy to manipulate, but people must learn to read English properly.

In the phrase you quoted - disturbances that come into the picture via Israelis are eliminated. This could be referring to Israel’s assassination list, hacking efforts, or psyop attempts.

Sounded like an admission to Iran's assasinations lists and other activity never acknowledged on this board,

Every single one of your sources is MSM. MSM sources report what they are told to report by various officials who, in many cases, actually write the stories for them (to ensure it gets spread as far as possible, a trick is to write the story for a reporter so they can run it, get credit for it, get paid for it, but not have to invest time in it).

It is unfortunate that, unless you are MSM, you don't get audience with those officials. And, unless you are MSM, you are not listed as "credible" among the mindless masses. The ultimate irony: the stamp of legitimacy for the watchdogs is actually the seal of a club for lapdogs.

I can't wait to see the actual text/transcript of the speech....

You just KNOW it won't line up with the charged "he said" statements of those already committed to a specific judgement.

But it is amusing to get the one side in advance....

It's obviously that they hate each other, and there is no slightest chance someone will give up their stance, so war is inevitable imo and it's pretty scary.

He's usually talking about the Zionists specifically, not all of Israel.

The only problem with that is if someone switches up the words a tad for instance:

If someone else was talking about Islamist extremists not all muslims the comment doesn't fly in that case.

What I don't get is why doesn't he just say Israel considering it hasn't been around but a few years, and Iran has been around for 10,000.

Did you actually read the speech (which is a translation), or did you simply read the reported Western-media interpretation on the speech?

Yeah.

Hi Neo,

I was keeping track of this story since early this morning when it first broke and at first they said he claimed that " Israel has no roots in the Middle East and would not last".

I assure you this was the translation as many news outlets were reporting this exact quote that I provided.

I'm not completely denying that Mahmoud did or did not say this since I cannot speak Farsi and was not there listening to the translation but I believe this may be another purposely done mistranslation. I'm not one hundred percent committed to this yet but I do find it odd how the translation has already changed since early this morning. I wish I could find a source to back up my claims but I can't so you can blow it off as pro Iranian propaganda if you wish but the "eliminated" part of the translation was non existent when he first spoke, I wonder who translated this exact version and if we can have a Farsi speaking member confirm this translation for us.

Please forgive me for having a bit of doubt, it's just that Mahmoud is often purposely mistranslated so I always like confirmation from multiple reliable sources on whether or not it is true.

Peace.

I do not think he has been misquoted people can play semantics about the choice of words all day long.

The fact remains Iran does not like Israel everyone knows there is only one country that he is talking about.

and again there is nothing that says people have to agree with me,

I really wish Ahmadinejad would learn English, if only for the sake of not getting mistranslated. Then there wouldn't be so many arguments over what he said.

I agree that the Iranian government is not very fond of Israel, as they are constantly exchanging rather threatening rhetoric. We both know we will never agree on the previous translations/mistranslations that have been discussed in the past, but why on earth would the Iranians like Israel? Israel is constantly threatening Iran...in plain English too so there is no chance for mistranslation.

Also, when Mahmoud speaks about Israel he is speaking about the Zionists within it, as he has acknowledged that there are good people in Israel. And let's please not say how much he hates Jews because we all know that is a lie due to the fact that Iran has a rather large Jewish population that lives in peace and harmony.

Just to make it clear, I'm a white dude from Canada, but if I were to view the situation as an Arab/Persian in the ME I would have no choice but to at least ponder the fact of how Israel was formed and what it has done since it's formation. Don't worry, I'm not painting all their neighbors as saints as they clearly are not either. It's just that Israel is kind of the "big fat pink elephant in the room" in the ME and it can't just expect it's neighbors to gladly accept their policies that are put in place in the region.

Sorry if that was a bit off topic..back on topic...I would really like various members to truthfully translate this for us so we can decide once and for all if he really said this. Mahmoud is kind of a loose cannon, especially when they give him the mic in NYC as he likes to put on a show so maybe he did say this, all I want is factual confirmation and not reports from what I consider to be very biased outlets when it comes to this situation.

Regrettably it's damn near impossible to find any unbiased sources so it's a double edged sword.
