Trying to find some figures for this, but Afghanistan's GDP is 20 bil and I'm willing to bet that the worldwide opium trade is worth close to that or more. Wikipedia has opium at 50% of their GDP, but another page says 100% of Afghan opium trade is illegal. Not sure what to make of that.

Regardless of specifics, a lot of opium money from Afghanistan is ending up in American hands, for sure.

Being one of the 42% that suports the 47% well working for the 1%, I'm suprised it's only 47%? I would have thought with barack hussien obama's hatred of capitalism and the communist policies he pushes it would be well over that.

The establishment has been pretty good to Romney for a guy they hate. A couple Harvard degrees, CEO of a top private equity firm, a few hundred million, governor of a major state, presidential nomination.

Might be lower if (trying to reciprocate your terminology) Bush didn't have hatred toward a stable financial industry. Obama didn't push for nationalizing the banks, which is what a true socialist would have done.

Romney was spot on with his honest comment. The truth hurts and in the reality of the total context of Romney's statement he is clearly speaking about not being able to rely on these people for their support. They have too much at stake with Obama at the helm.

The numbers say it all... Record numbers on SNAP program, record number unemployed, record numbers dropping out completely, record numbers on disability etc etc. Couple that with a taxpayer funded ad campaign to sell the SNAP program and for the Fed. govt. to give bonuses to states who increase their numbers on this program and you have to wonder why.

Romney would love to see as many people as possible become less dependent or completely independent of the govt. Period. Simple.. End of Story.... Obama and his handlers have done quite well at creating an entitlement society that must repay him with their votes...and the MSM helps to sell it and push it. Entitlements good...success and wealth bad....Just accept your fate and take your monthly block of cheese... Sounds like a modern day caste society...

Obama didn't create an entitlement society, that was FDR and LBJ. He happened to preside over a period of time when those entitlements were most needed, because of a major economic panic.

That's not what he said.

He said a certain percentage of the American public think they are entitled to the government handouts. And that those people will vote for Obama because Romneys plan isn't attractive for them. Thats VERY different from him saying a blanket statement that 'Obama voters are dependent on government'.

I think the 'percentage' he gave is probably way off .. but the fact is that he is correct. A certain percentage of people do use the government as their 'way of life' and those people won't vote for Romney.

He always says the president you don't have to be Einstein to know that he is talking about Obama.

Those same banks donated MORE to Obama in 2008 when he destroyed all previous fund raising records. That should tell you all that you need to know.... The banks back those who they think will help them the most and right now it seems like Ben Bernake is their number one buddy for all the tricks he is pulling with the Federal Reserve all in an attempt to save Obama...

There should be a 20% flat tax on EVERY income that is not considered in poverty. Get rid of Medicaid / Medicare, or reform it as well as reform health insurance. So it stays profitable, but benefits the consumer more consistently, and not, " sorry, you got cancer, see ya."

I do not want Government healthcare. I do not want to wait for weeks to get to a doctor. If you don't have health insurance, get a job. If you cant, you are most likely on medicaid any how.

It is not my responsibility to ensure you are healthy, and neither is it the government's responsibility. If you are in danger, of course i will help, but if you are sick, sounds personal.

Women also do not have a right to birth control, that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard of in my life. You have a right to take care of yourself and be responsible for yourself.

I think Obama himself would vote yes to that, it really doesn't reflect on Romney's comments.

You could just as easily poll, do you think poor elderly people should be taxed on social security? And most would say no.

And let's be honest. Everyone is dependent on the govt to an extent. Do you drive on roads? Use stoplights? Trade in dollars?

I know the poll is implying benefits, but the government facilitates our entire society.
