2) Per Sam Harris, “Some beliefs are so dangerous that it may be ethical to kill people for believing them” (sorry, gotta take negative)

Surely that would quickly become a death sentence debate?

Or maybe I need to look up the source.

If you're of the mind that it need get to that point, feel free to take the positive and we're on :-)

On a somewhat more frivolous note, Druid, I came up with a lighter subject this morning:

"When the lead singer in a popular band leaves, it's over."

I like that light-hearted debate topic...IF Druid declines, I will take you up on it. But only if that happens...I don't want to take anyone's opportunity as there are plenty to go around, it seems...at least I it seems as if interest is renewed?

Which brings up a question suddenly...can debate topic be used more than once?

And I like the idea of light-hearted topics to break the severity that kind of accompanies debate, at least in my mind.
My own life is kind of heavy right now...world and national politics are heavy....I need a bit of levity here and there.

Media questions are fun:

1. The portrayal of the modern male hero has improved in the last few decades of modern cinema
2. Modern super hero vigilantes are positive role models
3. Violence in the media does not influence our youth negatively
4. Homosexuality should not be on free to access television before 9pm
5. Hyper masculine portrayals of male action heroes are just as sexist as sexualised portrayals of women
6. The music industry is run by [insert secret org here]
7. Pop and rock stars should not be involved in politics
8. Super hero films are a direct reflection of changing gender roles in society
9. Tyler Durden was 'right' about society in the film Fight Club
10. Celebrity actors are less powerful today than they were 20 years ago
11. The comedy channel is more powerful in the sphere of politics than the news media
12. The global media has reached such a pervasive size that humans can no longer know what is real

And I'll have a think about the Sam Harris thing!

I rest my case. The conclusion stating that "Mysterious Celebrity Deaths are indeed Mysterious" is up.

The waters are muddier than what they actually appear...

Dear Rising Against, now the ball is on your side in order to close this debate.

G'Luck !

Great debate guys!

I may not agree with the winning position, but it was articulated well and brings up points that are not intelligently posited in threads on the same subject.

Grats to you both !

Opening of the Romney for POTUS debate posted.

I went light to gauge my opponent better, as it was the opening. I usually load my posts and have to edit to fit the character count, so this was a pleasant variation.

Perhaps, for this one specific debate, any registered "fighter" could vote on the winner by U2U to a specified moderator? It might be an interesting insight into the eventual electoral results (though I'd still leave deciding the winner of the debate to the established process.)

For myself, I am currently planning, as I did in 2008, to leave the POTUS section of my ballot blank. If either of you can change my mind, I will honour that, and cast my vote to the victor.

You never know, it might actually matter, lol.

Still don't have a debate partner.

Experimenting with updating my status whenever I do or don't so people know when to approach me.

Would it be a bad thing for individual fighters to have their own threads with lists of questions they like/updates when they're busy or not?

I read your list and I think we could find a common theme to debate.

Music is a passion of mine and I could probably debate the homosexuality issue as well.

U2U me and let's figure it out.
