Somthing strange happening over skys of central NY.

Im seventy miles west of Albany. This perticular trail, had it been left by a jet would have blowen out my eardrums givin it's low elevation. Whatever left this one was extremly quiet.

I also live in NY (Southern Sullivan County) and I too saw a strange set of lights two nights ago st around 11pm. I was looking north/north east when I spotted what looked to be a horizontal row of three stationary lights. My fiance was outside with me and she confirmed what I was seeing. They were far off in the distance. My best estimation is that they or it was flying over the Kingston/Saugertees area and heading north towards Albany. What had me excited was the length of time I was able to see this thing. I stood outside for about 30 minutes watching it before is disappeared behind the trees.

And you say this was two nights ago? Very odd! I wish I had seen them myself. I thought about driving out there when he had called but it was three in the morning and I had had a few drinks before going to bed. I didn't think getting on the road at three in the morning with alchohal in my system would have been a good

He's at work today without his phone so I won't be able to contact him till this evening.

Were all three lights moving in tandom?

lol I live in Brooklyn, NY. I've seen the lights as well last night. These are spot lights from the military base. Sometime they are rented out and are put in front of big parties and weddings. The run is a circular motion and meet in the middle, same pattern all the time. They are seen much clearer when it is cloudy like last night.

I live in Queens, basically 20mins from Manhattan and we've been having some bizarre weather recently. We had hail the other day, along with lots of thunder storms. It was the first time I've seen hail fall here and I've lived here all my life (not saying we don't get hail ever but it's freaking MEGA rare here). Unfortunately from my apartment it's hard to see anything in the sky at night with all the light posts outside and it being constantly cloudy for the past two weeks.

first of all last night was not cloudy. There was a clear sky at the time of talking to him. Secondly if it were those movie spotlights as you suggest, they would have had to been parked in his yard. As i stated in the original op these lights were circling his house.
Third the beam from the ground up ( if he had parked spotlights in his yard) would have been visible and he would have been able to source the location from whence the light was eminatted.

Edit to add, he lives six miles from the nearest town with nothing but farms and woods surrounding him. The likely hood of a spotlight having been rented for no perticular reason would strike me as unlikely

I'am near Cobleskill and haven't seen anything like what you have described but there were helicopters with their searchlights on, which is odd the other night. first time i have seen that up here in the mountains.

Last week 2 aircrafts off the normal flight patterns flew over real fast no sound 4 white non flashing lights one in each corner like a X and a red looking one in the center also non flashing. i was out in the field walking the dog it was a very clear night when they passed over .

Could of been military, they do fly over pretty fast and you can here them but never see them.

Wow your pretty close to me. I've seem some monster helos flow over recently, very rare for this area. The trail I described in the op happened overhead while on the Susquehanna just a mile north of goodyear lake

Come to think of it it was actually last night because I had gone out for a smoke before the Newsroom came on HBO at 10. So it was Sunday night at around 9:45pm. It was three lights, red/white/red that flickered but didn't seem to move. I say they were flying north because it seemed they were flying away from my location but for about 15 minutes I watched and they didn't change direction and their size didn't change. It was either flying north or hovering. These lights weren't something that are always there because I stare at the night sky every time I go out on the porch at night. They seemed to be one object. Like a string of three colorful shining pearls. My eyes will be peeled tonight and hopefully there are clears skies if they are there again I'll attempt to take some photos.

The ISS went over around that time

The ISS was visible in London at that time last night.

Yeah the forecast says isolated thunderstorms for tonight so I doubt I will be seeing much of the night sky tonight. My camera will be on standby though just in case.

I'll have to checkout where goodyear lake is.

The helicopters are a bit strange, since one rarely flies over.

In NYC here - Brooklyn. Also near a flight path to LaGuardia Airport. I often watch approaches while hanging in the yard. Can hear and see them from a distance. Recent nights, I've been hearing thrusters or engines of some sort. Some sounded as if they were taking the flight path which is almost above me, but didn't see anything including lights. I've also seen quite a few black Chinooks and other large helicopters lately. Never saw them in this area before.

Posting the picture my daughter and I took 2 months ago again, in case people didn't see it...I already got the reflection debunk....see what you think.

This is over the mall in Albany NY.

Pic was taken on an Iphone 4.

Here's another view...still only 4 lights, but you can see many more in the lot...so I don't see how it's a reflection. I think something is going on over NY...human or not...who knows.

Just bumping this back up. Interesting, I too saw the three lights in the southwest sky the last couple nights...
