Julian Assange will be granted asylum, says official

www.guardian.co.uk

Ecuador's president Rafael Correa has agreed to give Julian Assange asylum, officials within Ecuador's government have said.

The WikiLeaks founder has been holed up at Ecuador's London embassy since 19 June, when he officially requested political asylum.

"Ecuador will grant asylum to Julian Assange," said an official in the Ecuadorean capital Quito, who is familiar with the government discussions.

On Monday, Correa told state-run ECTV that he would decide this week whether to grant asylum to Assange. Correa said a large amount of material about international law had to be examine

Well now. This is an interesting twist. Leading up to this I figured there was no way little old Ecuador would stand up to the US, England and Sweden.

I am sure A LOT of money has changed hands and that Ecuador isn't doing this for Justice. But, that is just me.

I think now... a waiting game. I bet 10 to 1 the US will wait and then kidnap him.. I mean "Return him to Justice" in a short while.

They have to... or Obama and the Military will really look foolish. What say you?

That is awesome. I hope that Julian Assange can continue his quest for truth from Ecuador, where he is guaranteed safety.

Assange picked and chose what he released. It may have looked like "truth" but it was calculated. How much got held back for hush money?

What kind of tactics are that?

How is it any better than the people he claims he is exposing....

Safety is not guaranteed anywhere, but that is cool at least he will not be locked up somewhere (if all goes well).

Indeed. I think anyone who speaks out against the bankers these days is called a terrorist.

Perhaps Assange can meet up with Bungalow Bill Ryan of Project Camelot yore and Project Avalon - the former I call Project Scamelot, the latter I call Project Vomitorium. Ryan has taken up residence in Villacambria.

Ecuador is fantastic as long as you know where to live and are willing to live without many of what a mass of folks call "necessities". Like Walmart.

Nonetheless, his entrance was assured to Ecuador, there is no possible means that TPTB, specifically the US Intelligence Services, will make a martyr out of him.

They prefer not to do that with their own [T.I.C.]

Hi anon72,
Blimey, took them long enough-I bet those bribe offers just kept on getting higher and higher from those who want assange.
I hope he's ok-he has been stuck in a room for weeks, hope he's been getting vitamin d supplements.
He may be looking a bit pasty,or more pasty than usual by now.

I think he may still be arrested in the UK,if they catch him between the embassy and the car.
Not sure though.

Can't wait to see how the heck he plans on leaving the Embassy & England, it's gonna be a big task, can't figure out how he going to manage it, Ecuador helicopter James bond style from the roof top is the only option I see but getting that to work isn't visable, any ideas??
