What possible relevance can the United States causing casualties in war (The places you name make clear you're talking about such wonderful things as Napalm) have to a women being burned alive by her own husband and in front of her own children?????

You compare the acts of a nation in combat to the act of horrible...unthinkable murder in front of children, whose MOTHER is the victim. Wow...

The OP isn't the one I'd say is a little off on the thinking. One act being described is wrong, perhaps...but the other is Evil beyond imagination.

Sometimes the only thing one can do is spread the word. Don't underestimate the potential effect it can have.

To clarify why the story is kinda Hinduism stuff...

1. Burning women because fail to deliver is not a Muslim stuff
2. In Islam, you got 3 more "wife slot", simply marry another would solve the matter.
3. Women paying only performed in Hinduism, in Islam - its the male that pay. Asking Rp 5000 to raise a child is Hindu stuff (women pays)
4. If its really a Muslim that doing this, then local culture have change their teachings.
5. Unlike other religions, Muslim have the option to "increase wife count", why he doesnt do it ?
6. Happens in India where burning women is common.
7. Theres no law in Islam to burn people, where this thing comes from anyway ? We stone people, not burn

Too many things not right, btw the penalty for that guy in Islam is death, for burning his wife, I think.

Great. So it's safe to say that their religious beliefs had absolutely NOTHING to do with this, and it's just a random, unassociated killing. There was no religious empowerment whatsoever, happens all the time in India, no big deal.

I was just trying to find another source for this...and did. The story gets worse.

On Friday, Jahiran was set ablaze in her house. Tamanna told police that her grandmother and aunt poured kerosene on her mother, while her father set Jahiran on fire.

While the daughters looked on helplessly, Jahiran ran out of the house with flames all over her body, crying for help. Her neighbours rushed to her rescue and rushed her to a hospital. Jahiran succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning.

I feel for ya, TA, but come on, let's face it, would ANY religious belief cause you to do such a thing to another human being? If god himself came down and told me to burn my wife (or anyone) I'd tell him to go to hell. This was an evil human performing a human atrocity. No religion required.

Um, christians do not burn anyone. Those aren't christians.

John 16:1-3

1 “These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble. 2 They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. 3 And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.

This passage is refering to jewish/christian messianics but the principle is those who commit murder never knew Jesus to begin with.

Murderers do not go to heaven and Jesus takes this even further, if you even THINK about having sex with a married woman you've already committed the act of adultery in your heart, if you even HATE people it's the same to him as if you already committed murder. The moral of the story is thought is the parent of action. Sure you can claim to be christian but what you do is what defines you. Those who do not have his Spirit in them do the things he forbids. Murder is the worst kind of theft because you cannot give back what you have taken.

So many times throughout history, women were blamed for so many things and either punished or killed. The man who burned his wife and the family of that man ----- did they ever stop to think of the posibility that it is not only the woman who can produce just a desired boy, or a desired girl. The woman has no power of controlling what sex a baby is born as....I do not know for sure about genetics or biology, but does the males sperm have anything to do with the final outcome, too?

Just crazy crap. It makes my blood boil.

I think really you just hit the nail on the head...lack of education and lack of reasoning. Crazy crap. And it obviously runs in the family since his mother and sister both aided and abetted him. I don't think a mentally balanced person would do this under any circumstances.

I also wanted to add, that used to, if a man married a woman and found she was NOT a virgin, he would kill her. Also, when a man was to die, his widow was to commit "sati" by throwing herself on her deceased husbands funeral pyre and go with him. Many young widows did not want to do this, but the family and many other folks pressured her endlessly until it was basically the only thing she had left to do, if she was to hold "honor" She had to die, too, because she was considered "used goods".....But, a man whose wife had died was able to go and get a new wife. I willl with hold my comment for now what I think, because cursing is not allowed here, but I will say, everywhere, so many things had been in favor of men or had men as an exception in so many things.

Dont know if these things are still practiced today, but it was terrible. Pretty unfair, that a guy was able to experience whatever he wanted before marriage, but the woman had to be a virgin. If she was discovered otherwise, she was considered "unclean" or "unpure". Shoot, in my opinion, so many practices, traditions and ways people do things are not squeeky "clean" I am sure.

Poor families dreaded having female children because the wedding would have to be paid for by her parents, and alot of expense HAD to go into those weddings and preparations according to traditions. So, used to, female babies were killed as well.

Not just Hinduism, but I have read about similar traditions among Japanese, too.

Pure religious belief wouldn't cause me personally to do something like this, absolutely not. But wars fought over it throughout history unfortunately gut that argument until the intestines are sprawling on the floor. Much much worse has been done in the name of religion- time and time again. To the point that I say pack them ALL on a monster space shuttle, and get them the HELL off this planet. ASAP. That would indeed be HEAVEN.

As to this case, yeah, ultimately it is a bunch of wackos, because dowry based marriages and dowry payments are illegal in India, but happen all the time. Here is just one video report, but there is tons of this stuff on Youtube:



Any connection of this to religion appears to be erroneous on my part, as this is Indian custom. An ILLEGAL custom, but a custom nonetheless. And practiced widely. If you're a woman in India married under such terms and your parents can't pay up, your husband, along with other family members, just torture and murder you. That simple. Nice custom, huh? :shk:

Another cruel thing, is if a woman does not do as she is told, she gets beat, and even disfigured....this would make her not only have to live with looking at herself that way, but it sets it into her mind that she will not be wanted by any other man, or other people will know just by looking at her that she did something really wrong to anger her husband to do such things like that....either way, women were made to look bad no matter how the man himself was.

I read in (not sure if it was Vedas) a book that it gave advice to women in such words:
"Be him, your husband, a drunkard, or he hits, or hurts you, always aim to be as pleasant to him no matter what he does to you or your body. If he cries, you are to cry with him...If he is happy, you are to laugh with him...If he is angry, you are to be meek...No matter what he does, you must always hold your grace, honor and dignity, for when it is time for you to go, you will go to the place of beauty, and he will not be able to follow"

In a way, at the end, it really makes sense to strive to always do your best so you can earn that beautiful place....BUT, on the otherhand, it guides that women are to put up with the torture, suffering and never be a human being on her own accord, and that she is to never have her own will, nor defend herself.

This same type of guidance has been given to Japanese women, also. One more thing I would like to add is a woman had to marry a fellow she even never met (she was like property), and eventhough she should be very afraid of this strange man she is marrying, many women were terrified of their mother-in-laws. The mother-in-laws had alot of say in matters, would mistreat the new daughter-in-laws, be very critical about everything the new bride did, and the mother-in-laws also guide the sons on how to handle the marriage. Yep, there was more fear of the mother-in-laws ESPECIALLY since most of the time, the newly married couple would be living with the husband parents until they could afford a place of their own.

Do bear in mind that not ALL marriages were like this, but there has been through history that women were only regarded as objects (or peices of meat in general) and less than human being.

The ONLY WAY TO STOP THIS barbaric and false way to exist is if women AND men stood up, and enforced the fact that men and women are EQUAL...Men and women need/complement/benefit eachother and as equals are then truly balanced. As ABove, So Below...Yin-Yang...Light-Dark...As long as their are those who overpower, or wiegh the scales too much in the wrong way, there will always be imbalance...Human kind cannot evolve until they "Let Go"

It breaks my heart to see such senseless atrocities. They should be celebrating the birth of any child no matter what its gender may be. It should a joyous occasion and a true blessing. Instead this woman was treated with abuse and death.

i'm continually saddened by humankind's endless capacity for inflicting pain and suffering on it's own kind. burning someone alive is terribly cruel. whatever the supposed justification for atrocities like this, all such acts are another little stain on the body of humanity. we need to get beyond these primitive tendencies, and fast.
