Woman burnt alive in front of daughters

MALDA: The failure to give birth to a son and the inability to fulfill her husband and in-laws' demand for money cost a woman her life. She was burnt alive allegedly by her husband and in-laws in front of her minor daughters on Friday night. The victim, a resident of Khejurbona village, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday morning. The woman's mother has lodged a complaint but the accused have gone into hiding.

I'm no hater, but these kind of acts bring me one step closer.

Jahiran's mother Aisanur Biwi said, "Since the birth of the younger daughter, my daughter was being tortured by her husband and in-laws. She was beaten up and abused for her failure to deliver a son." The torture stopped for a while after complaints were made against Serajul at Malda police station.

Jahiran was also asked to get money from her parents to bring up the daughters. Initially, Aisanur met her son-in-law's demand. "But a few days back, he demanded Rs 5,000 which was beyond our capacity. This triggered them to start torturing my daughter again," the victim's mother said.

On Friday, Jahiran was set ablaze in her house. Tamanna told police that her grandmother and aunt poured kerosene on her mother, while her father set Jahiran on fire.

EDIT: Seeing as I see no religious affiliation, I have edited OP. I do not know that these people are Muslim. And I don't know that it's an honor killing either, so that's gone too.

I'm no Muslim hater, but these kind of acts bring me one step closer.

I have a Muslim neighbour and they haven't burned their wife lately. I think religion leverages people's stupidity, but in this case, you really have to blame the individual. There are plenty of Muslim's who don't light their loved one's on fire.

Same goes with Catholics, not all of them ______ _________.

But yeah, religion is kind of like a magnifier of retarded action....

go do something about it instead of crying, maybe you should blow yourself inside a muslim mosque, or better yet why dont you go to those who burnt this women in the heart of their motherland and burn a quran to protest, maybe they will listen to you...

It's more common in other parts of the world for this to go unpoliced. The only thing that keeps first world countries in line is fear, people aren't much more enlightened than anywhere else

In b4 it has nothing to do with Islam. Culture. Nothing in the Koran says you can do this etc.

Religion is just the justification for the act.

People blow themselves up for. . .
People kill people for. . . .
Countries invade other countries for. . . . .
Nutweasels kill people for. . . . .

Religion is just one of many justifications. Religious teachers, religious leaders, religious role models have a responsibility. And if they want to portray their religion in a manner that incites this kind of violence, then the fault lies with the interpretations of the religion.

These honour killing make me sick to my stomach. It also happens here in the UK. Can someone please tell me WTF is honourable about 'honour' killings?..

Not getting the point TA. There are monsters everywhere. We could look at the inner cities of NA and see crackheads that do insane things to their kids. Maybe, unfortunately, we have been hardened by the frequency of such atrocities here.

This is not an Islamic thing at all. Burning women because of failure to deliver a son, what is this ? This post is a blatant lie or a good sample of propaganda. Is Islam there is Qada and Qadar, learn about Islam before you shove your gun.

Well, on one hand, I'll need shown where in the Quran it says one should torch their spouse for bad luck in child rearing. I missed that on my one read through of Islam's Holy Book. Hmm.. maybe in an appendix?

On the other, culture sure is a changing thing around the world and some days I'm just as happy when people say America has no culture. I don't agree, but if that is culture to other people...I'll happily live out my life with absolutely none.

Yeah well you're right about the hardened part. I can think back when I was young and something like this would nearly have me in tears. Now it's "just another insane killing, somewhere off in another foreign land." I loathe this desensitizing that happened to me, that killings just "happen" every day. Just write it off, no big deal, move on, nothing to see here. Yeah, I got it. And would you please get another moderator to moderate the poster above telling me to get lost. Thank you.

Women in India have been burned alive for ages. It's a disgrace to civilized people everywhere. I've seen lots of films about this and despite all the publicity and supposed education programs against this, it's really discouraging to see that it is still happening.

Its all a sense of enforcement and tradition, to have less open crime is north america is good but its still rife with murder an pain in its ghettos, etc. Who can feel arrogance toward the third world that america suppresses? You can distract yourself from the greater truths an they parade the middle east like a sideshow to make us feel superior of our supposed civility.

Read a book about a woman burned by her family. Believe the book is called Burned Alive: The Story of Souad". Heart wrenching stuff.

Makes me feel like a wimp complaining about the nasty things in my life....what these women face everyday makes my paltry concerns seem so...petty.

I've got nothing left. Just speechless.
