I was on gamespot and i came across this
www.gamespot.com...

this it what it said

RUMOR #3: Someone is making a videogame which will feature the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Source: The developer of the game, Germany-based Replay Studios.

The official story: GameSpot could not reach Replay officials for comment.

What we heard: When posts with headlines such as "9/11: The Game" started popping up on various forums, many thought the game would an offensive creation by terrorist sympathizers, similar to the (unfortunately) abundant suicide-bomber flash games. Like most things in life, however, the reality was much more complex. According to Replay, the game, entitled Survivor, "is a third-person disaster survival game with highly interactive locations, based on famous, authentic-historical disaster scenarios." This will not only include the horrors of 9/11, but the 1985 Mexico City Earthquake, the 1945 Hiroshima bombing, and the sinking of the Titanic. Why would anyone want to experience any of these hellish events? "We call this unique genre 'Reality Gaming,'" goes Replay's sales pitch, "The highly original single-player game concept has never been seen before." Incidentally, the highly original single-player game has not yet found a publisher.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.

I remeber a game that came out a year or two ago where the premis was similar. A single player was in an earthquake or something and had to get out alive. I wouldnt be suprised if it was edited before it came to America. If this is an actual game, they will probably take out the section with the two towers. It happened alot right after 9-11. Lots of movie and game footage was edited to take the two towers out of the NY sky line. If its not edited, it probably wont be released in the US.

My husband is in the games industry. In his opinion it will probably never find a publisher because in Germany they have very strict laws and regulations in regard to what they allow in video games. For example, in Germany blood cannot be red because you cannot kill a human being, by making the blood green the 'human' is no longer human but can be considered an alien.

In America even the most categorically offensive of publishers probably wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole. Even compaines like Rock Star, known for controversy generating games such as Grand Theft auto know that that is pole vaulting over the line of decorum and good taste.

Japan would be their best bet as a publisher, however if this is a PC game there is no PC market in Japan so they probably wouldn't pick it up.

These are my husbands opinions, I have no clue what I'm talking about. I'm just typing.

Yeah as usual PS2s are always in the concern while PCs will be ignored
This annoys me besides making such a game

Who woulda thought? hehe!

Any way, Ill have to...gulp... agree with Jemison. I dont think even Rock Star would touch it, and they put hookers in there video games. There are some small private developers who are into this stuff, but you dont exactly go to EB games to buy thier merchandise. The problem is, all the stuff they create is racist garbage.

Oh wow 9/11 in a video game big deal, Just look at all the games that are based on Pear Harbor , don't you think the Vets get pissed off when they see their battleships get blown up over and over.

Its been 3 years since 9/11 , I would buy the game if it comes out. Thats if its any good.

Does anyone remember the game Red Alert 2, where you could play the invading Soviet army and destroy the World Trade Center? I think they tried to get the game taken off the shelves....I know they at least had them change the cover art which featured a bombardment of New York.

Anyway, I wonder why people aren't more upset by this game, than a game depecting the PAST events of 9-11:

Got to talk about something other than politics sometime

Flinx,
I rember that game! There was a game released just this year where the premis was Russia invaded America and Americans had to defend themselves wolverines style. I might be showing my age with that last movie referance. I think it (Wolverines)was from a movie from mid 80's called Red Dawn that also had the same premis.

so whats the problem with making a game about this? We have games about war, seems a little more drastic than the terrorist attacks -.- why don't they get any 'criticism'

I'll probably buy this survivor game just to say I have it (and because it looks pretty fun)

This appears to be a game that puts you in the middle of some major catastrophic events in our history and asks you to survive them...Would 9/11 not fall into that catagory? I am intruiged. I'll check it out. This is for anyone who would say, "If I was there, I'd have done this..."

I personally am not offended in the least...

There are tons of games that are in the same stage of development as this one. If you notice the area on the link that mentions publisher it says n/a. Unless they find a publisher or find a way to publish it themselves it will not come out. Only 2 out of every 10 games developed get published. And it is quite common for publishers to sign up and then cancel a game midway through, or even after it's completed because they get cold feet, feel they wouldn't make enough profit, etc.

I don't have a problem with it.

But I can see some people being offended at someone trying to profit off of 9/11. The longer time passes the less sensative people will be. It's only beena few years, so there will still be people offended. Not as bad to me as when they changed the entire plot of "Sum of all fears" just to be politially sensative, thus ruining the movie. ;-)

Yeah I dont see what the big deal is.

I found the whole reaction to entertainment post 911 very stupid. Like banning particular songs from playing on the radio and halting TV shows that depict terrorist acts etc. That just tells me that they think of the public as mindless sheep.

Maybe they are...

I honestly was going to get a bunch of people together to make a game about 9/11 but I wasnt worried about the game I was more worried abou adding the history lesson behind it on what happened, since hitory these days seems to get warped everytime they make a new history book on something.

I was close to doing this I had about 10 people to help artists, coders, texture artists, lighting and modelers..

I decided not to do it cause we had a bunch of fight on things so, maybe another day I will pick it up..
