I would just like to say that the joker prefered the use of knives, this guy is a PHONY. Doesn't even know who he's trying to portray!

Dynamite, gunpowder and gasoline...were of course in the jokers arsenal...but he really did enjoy using knives on his victims over any of that.

HE'S A PHONY! That or whoever made this story up needs to research their Rogue Gallery villains a little better next time!

I've never had this thought before. Suddenly, I am starting to believe every capable American should get their concealed carry permit. They should also educate themselves about firearm responsibilty, safety, and use.

Why this sudden extreme view? I see it a better option than the inevitable disarming of the law abiding citizens, and/or increased law enforcement protection. If that were to happen, I expect we won't even be able to go to the store for milk without getting scanned and jackbooted around.

According to this article they "spotted" him. Are they saying now that he didn't patiently wait in his car, but tried to merge in with the SWAT members? Not to mention the fact that he is covered in blood and reeks of gunpowder. There are photos of the back door and his car with plenty of blood trails, plus his assault rifle sitting outside the door.

"As Holmes was dressed in armor similar to SWAT team members, Oates said he is "so proud" of two officers who spotted part of Holmes' costume that differs from what a SWAT team member would be wearing. "So kudos to my two cops who grabbed this guy and that sharp observation that they made immediately that led them to suspect him as being the suspect," Oates said."

Reading that, I understand what kind of plan dude might have had to escape, and also understand why he dropped out of his Phd. program. Thank you for the link, I had already stopped my research into what happened, and might not have picked up on that info. Now I have enough information to explain much of who and how of the incident .

How was he captured?? Well, with additional details released by the FBI last night, as I gather...We now know his AR-15 jammed. (I'd wondered about that.. pieces of crap in my personal experience..and he wasn't Mr. Gunfighter to have it in tip top shape, I'll bet).

So.. His MAIN weapon went down...and how far is The Joker going to get, being his evil self...with a puny handgun and a little shotgun? His image must have been in serious trouble. Add to that, I don't think these things EVER EVER turn out like the sick bastards imagine in their minds eye. Movies make it look almost cool and fun to see people shot. Then movie he was following in his mind made a near circus atmosphere of murder during the Joker scenes. It added to the evil unreal sense of the character of course.

Well.... Seeing real human beings sustain trauma any decent person would be instantly and violently sick just witnessing...probably added to put him in a state of shock. However brief that may have been.....they got his sorry ass during that shock period. Bagged and tagged..without incident.

How far is he going to get?

Didn't he use smoke? Couldn't he have shot up the place, taken off his gear, blended into the crowd; and frantically ran out of the theater??? Couldn't he have hidden? Who's gonna wait, if you could get away? Dude was so smart, he forgot his plan of escape? lol He waited in his car for cops to arrive?

So, the cops knew what type of car he was driving? He couldn't have just drove off???

There are toooooo many holes in this story. The picture i see.....i'm certain....is faaaaaaar from the picture they're portraying on TELEVISION!!! I don't watch TELEVISION. It poisons the brain!

I basically heard the same thing except that he was under his car. Seems rather strange that he had all this so planned out and just sat waiting for the police to arrive. Maybe he wanted to get caught?

As I've heard described now, he was dressed and had the ammunition to re-stage the North Hollywood Bank Shootout with himself as the lone actor this time around. He was bullet resistant from his toes to his hair. For those who point to shooting him in the face? Well.. I'm sure he thought of that and by his actions, I'll bet he examined the N. Hollywood shootout himself. That IS how at least one of those guys was finally killed...but look how long it took to get that lucky shot?

He surrendered because he chose to..or just didn't have any fight left in him at that moment.

To be real blunt on this...We've heard he shot at least two people in the head and right up close. One, I'd heard was a kid for the love of God. Google what that looks like. Plenty is out there of real, honest to God crime scenes and real honest to God fatal gunshot wounds to the head. I'm surprised Mr. Wizard wasn't puking out the back door himself.....but I'm sure this wasn't what he expected. He may have had a weak moment..and that's when the police unit drove up on him.

(Listen to the radio call if it's still online somewhere. The cop who finds him is in as much disbelief and shock that THIS is the bad guy as we'd imagine he should be)

The fact this guy was taken without a fight isn't that mysterious.... Hey, after all, he built his Apartment up that way. I could be all wrong in reading his motives and he surrendered believing he'd literally play this on like the real Joker in the actual movie...as if custody would still leave him options to be "The Joker". One sick puppy.

From the footage showing behind the theater, where his car was, I gather he had limited (non-existent) escaped routes. Especially, with a car. I think he did not expect a rapid police response, because he expected his apartment to have their attention. I remember seeing a picture of him sitting in his car, but am now understanding that he tried to blend in with police. Maybe he went to his car after deciding the gig was up.

What about a jewelry store robbery happening at the same time? I heard mention of that once or twice, but now nothing.

OMG..... I don't know why that hadn't occurred to me before. You're right! He timed the Apartment..and maybe not QUITE perfectly. If they'd blown that by mistake...Good Lord..the whole city WOULD have rolled that direction and been well committed to it by the time they started getting the calls for a nightmare shooting scene at the same time. Oh...this is one cold and calculating customer if you're reading it right. That is evil...but wow.. could have worked to give him the time he looked to have wanted.

Thank God for neighbors with a 6th sense about not opening doors. SO close to going the other way.

Despite what some are saying I think this is a very good thread with a very good point.

I have not seen a single thing describing how he turned himself in, or was caught. Nor have I seen anything about him waiting in his car(would like to see a source for this(sorry if it was already posted)). All i've heard is that he did not resist, thats it.

How did he go from being in the theater shooting people, to being in police custody. Did someone run in the theater and take him down? Did he just stop shooting and walk out? Did he see the cops come in and just throw his gun down and give up?

Also why haven't they released some sort of psyche evaluation yet? Wouldn't that have been the first thing they've done? He has to have had more to say more than just "im the joker"

I'm not denying that this happened cause thats just plain silly. I'm just curious as to why no one can answer these vital, but simple questions.

EDIT: And one last thing. If he is as clever as the Joker of the movies, then for all we know this might not even be the end. Remember when the Joker pretty much planned on getting caught, and had a plan to bust himself out? Not saying thats what going to happen, but aside from his booby-trapped apartment, who knows if their might be one last thing up this dudes sleeve. It just seems like he's way to calm about this, as if he has something else planned.

But most likely he's just insane.

There's no evidence to show he actually committed the shooting. All anyone can safely say is he waited in the parking lot for the cops and claimed he was the shooter.

Whoa... I'm sorry and it's nothing personal. Someone had to eventually take it a step too far and it just happened to be you, first that I saw.

No biggy..and it's all my personal opinion of course, this this reply is as much as I intend to give any future suggestions that he may actually not have been the hand on the guns and the finger on the trigger. There is a limit to revisionist reporting and history..and wow...that crosses it with a parade in tow.

Everything gets run through the 'what-if' machine 1000 different ways at ATS..and good for that. However, once in a great while, the facts and circumstances are so painfully clear, suggesting other ideas actually goes into outright ignorance. It's rare to see a situation so clear as to fit that....but in my opinion, this is one of those VERY CLEAR situations. This animal did it. No doubt in my mind...or a theater full of people..or the cops.

BTW... If we even entertained this..Who set his apartment up as the biggest IED in US History? All a set up?

Nothing is clear yet, you cannot be sure of anything, sounds like you have an agenda, and yes, you do sound very similar to Harley Guy, you're not on the same payroll are you by any chance? I do find your comments rather odd a lot of the time.
