US geoengineers to spray sun-reflecting chemicals from balloon

Plans for a new field study into SRM Geoengineering are in the works. Scientists David Keith and James Anderson backed by the money of Bill Gates are preparing to release sulfate particles over New Mexico from a balloon. They are hoping to start this experiment within a year.

Experiment in New Mexico will try to establish the possibility of cooling the planet by dispersing sulphate aerosols

Two Harvard engineers are to spray sun-reflecting chemical particles into the atmosphere to artificially cool the planet, using a balloon flying 80,000 feet over Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

Keith, who manages a multimillion dollar geoengineering research fund provided by Microsoft founder Bill Gates, previously commissioned a study by a US aerospace company that made the case for the feasibility of large-scale deployment of solar geoengineering technologies.

His US experiment, conducted with American James Anderson, will take place within a year and involve the release of tens or hundreds of kilograms of particles to measure the impacts on ozone chemistry, and to test ways to make sulphate aerosols the appropriate size. Since it is impossible to simulate the complexity of the stratosphere in a laboratory, Keith says the experiment will provide an opportunity to improve models of how the ozone layer could be altered by much larger-scale sulphate spraying.

I don't like this idea at all. There was a similar experiment in the UK that was canceled because of public concerns and they were only going to use water. This experiment is going to be the tip of the iceberg with many other countries and scientists wanting to conduct their own experiments on a so called "small scale". What's going to happen when we have a thousand "small scale" experiments going on all at the same time?

This experiment is going to take place at 80,000 feet.

This a just a continuation of the tests conducted at lower altitudes.

So, will the place end up smelling like sulfphur or a burnt match?

They are slowly telling the public. You cannot terraform a whole planet with out at least a couple thousand people noticing.

I believe an ice age is naturally coming within the next 400 years because the planet has it's seasons.
If we mess too much with weather, we will mess up the cycle of the earth which is maintained to have life flourishing anew after the lands have been regenerated.

They are playing games while dismissing the dangers of their actions.

And what would these lower altitude tests be and how about a link showing these tests are actually happening at lower altitudes?

Im all for making this planet a cleaner and safer place, but I dont think that spraying Sun reflecting chemicals into the atmosphere, is the way to go. First off its chemicals, and we already have enough damn chemicals in our air already. Do they even know what the long term effects could possible be??? This could have devistating effects not just in the Air we breath, but what about the natural weather cycles, and when these chemicals settle back down to the ground will it disrupt the growth of certain Agricultural crops altering them, the sun reflecting Chems might cause great success in one area, and terrible outcomes in another area. Just leave mother earth alone, cut fossil burning emmisions, stop polluting Earth, and let her take care of herself, Mother Earth was doing just fine until 150 years ago with the Industrial Revolution, and the massive amounts of Fossil fuels burned each year. Sorry Mother Earth, Ive been trying very hard to cut my carbon footprint. switched to Solar and wind power for my primary electric at my house, ect......

The stratosphere is where the ozone layer is.

Stratosphere

The statosphere contains over 15% of the total mass of the atmosphere, and is where the ozone layer is located.

Initially it was thought that it took a fairly large volcanic eruption in order to propel sulphates into the stratosphere.

Upper Atmosphere Basics

Most of the compounds released at the Earth's surface do not reach the stratosphere

Severe volcanic eruptions can inject large quantities of gases and particles directly into the stratosphere.

But with all the testing of the various atmospheric levels that goes on today, more sulphates than could be explained were found in the stratosphere. The theory was revised, not to reflect illegal injections of sulphates into the stratosphere, but to say that now even small volcanic eruptions can reach the stratosphere.

Carbon, Climate Change

A US led team of scientists has just published research in the journal Science finding that even relatively small volcanic eruptions can cause particulates to reach the stratosphere.

Some media outlets (Softpedia for example) are reporting the story as if the amount of sulphate aerosols reaching the stratosphere has been recorded incorrectly or even that volcanic activity is a tool to fight global warming

Just how much of a volcanic event we would need to counter the vast amounts of carbon dioxide we have pumped into our atmosphere is difficult to determine, but the possibility of stratospheric particles cooling the planet has many scientists seriously contemplating direct intervention by way of geo-engineering principles.

Just because some people have been bribed and some scientific studies fudged, doesn't make it legal or ok to experiment in the stratosphere.

I also think that the choice of New Mexico being the location for deployment might be associated with international laws governing these experiments.

The jet stream flows from the West to East over the US and usually from the South to North. Leaving little chance for other countries to complain about this experiment.

The material would most likely not effect Canada or Mexico and would have a long time to travel before it reached European or African borders.

It seems to be a strategic location for a number of reasons. Including the ones you mention.

This thread isn't about chemtrails. Why are you obsessed with chemtrails? Especially since you don't think they exist. I'd appreciate it if you went and did your trolling comments elsewhere.

And yes there are numerous different types of Geoengineering experiments that are taking place.

So - someone suggests that chemtrials are supposedly geoengineering, you say that is a wacky idea that has ben put into someones mouth, I notices you total lack of honesty and inability to follow simple logic, and now somehow I'm making "sheeeeiit up"??

As usual the Guardian seems to have screwed the facts up and added a bit of sensationalism.

Dr. Anderson bristled at the suggestion in The Guardian report that the experiment would use large amounts of the particles. “The whole point of this is to avoid using any quantities of anything that could possibly damage the ozone layer,” he said.

Keith and Anderson are preparing a proposal for their experiment. The proposal is expected to be completed by the end of the year and if they can receive public funding the experiment could occur next year. Why public funding?

But Dr. Keith said he felt strongly that any experiment outside a laboratory that involved injecting even tiny amounts of particles into the atmosphere should involve “public funding and public governance.”
