If it was here in Canada, they would be really shocked as I would grab a bullhorn and perform citizens arrests on them ASAP and tell everyone to protect their sons. Not a single one of my sons, would ever be going anywhere. I would chew them up and downside the ranks and make their lives living hell.

I suggest all the parents and grandparents there do the same thing.

Well personally I don't think any human being should have the power to tell another human being that they HAVE to go to war, that is just plain wrong. Its cowardly to use a draft in the first place, its basically saying that the people in your society (the poor ones and young commoners) are nothing but cannon fodder so that you can keep your empire safe from harm.

Effing ridiculous that this would even be considered.

I could support a draft if Rich people and politician's kids were held to the same standard as all the poor kids that usually end up fighting and dying in Americas wars.

Double standard America...

They could probably lift the ban on failed marijuana tests and have enough for a great military. We would still have people that would kill to be there, but they failed a simple test. Anybody that has smoked knows that it wouldn't be a bright idea to do it when you are in. Most people probably stopped before they went in thinking they would pass and got the bad news. I am one of those people who still wants to join no matter the cost. As for the draft, it would end a war quick fast and in a hurry.

I will go to prison, or be put to death, before i fight in a war that i oppose and do not agree with.

If the draft was re-instated i am sure i would be called un-american for having this view. Is it unamerican to go out and kill because you are told to, without question? Is it unamerican to just go along and never stand up to the government?

I say no, if you want to fight, then fight. If you oppose the wars, the most american thing you can do is reject the draft and refuse to become a tool in the hands of those that would kill for personal gain.

i'd goto prison
or i'd smoke a bunch of weed and fail drug test and i'm sure a lot of other people would. which would push the military into taking it off the list tested for. which would allow the private sector to do the same. which would lead marijuana to being legalized. which will never happen thus the draft willnever happen.(lol jk) or i'd fail my hearing test. but still last case scenario i'd goto jail. idc if that makes me unamerican. being human is more important than being patriotic but with that said this is all bs, our military can't afford to pay all these extra soldiers. the army is cutting back on their numbers. they're kicking people out and preparing to offer soldiers a way to buy out the rest of their contract

I would ask.....

Who attacked us?

Where did they attack us?

When did they attack us?

Who EXACTLY is the enemy?

And why EXACTLY am I being deployed to war....?

After they failed to provide any logical answer I would....

...go thru basic training, learn tactical skills, learn military discipline...and then go AWOL
the day before I was deployed so that I would be prepared to fight the coming REAL war for
REAL reasons....The war against freedom

We can fix the problems in our own country if we stop pissing away money and lives on other nations.

No you can't, you have now a big debt to be paid for the past years of lush living. To be able to exit conflicts like the ones you are now into (because of resources, deals and corruption, you should see the documentary The War Tapes (2006)).

The level of change required would be extremely drastic for most of the population to agree with.

General McChrystal can 'call for' a giant Easter Bunny to descend from on-high and start killing AQ and Taliban with magic eggs for all it means to anyone. First of all, for anyone who forgot, this is the General and the only General I recall in recent times, Obama fired. I think it's extremely safe to say Obama and Panetta won't return his phone call let alone care what he thinks at the moment.

Second though, I would absolutely love the draft. First, I'm too old. I'm 38. Oh and yeah, I know, technically and all that...but technically then, that leaves many millions between running fresh out of 18/19 year olds and getting all the way up to my age range. I'll be fighting out my own windows long before it could reach the point they'd actually call for my old tail. It sure would bring some character and strength into the Metrosexuals the schools are raising males into today though.

it would also put too many wealthy and influential people's kids and kids of their friends on the draft lottery list. Obama wouldn't be starting whole new wars if that possibility even existed as an outside chance. His donors would tell him point blank to drop that idea like a hot potato.

i think this is telling. even General Warmonger realises at some level that war is just unsustainable.
Pity his reaction to the idea is pretty much the opposite of what we need.

Interesting to see so many posters saying they would just get out of the country. i wonder what sort of worldview i should infer from that? Now, i'm not Omerican, but it seems to me that any war chewing through enough people that a draft would be necessary would be a pretty global affair.... i don't think you would escape drafting by simply not being in any one particular country..
In any case, a draft is about the only thing i can think of that would make me even more outspoken than i already am on these issues....
the day the draft comes you'll see me down at the barracks or whatever.
i aint no 'dodger'.... i'm a conscientious objector

not that there is an army in the world who would have my scrawny, pacifistic, partially disabled, drugtest-failing ass making them look bad, but i think i have a legitimate stake in the 'debate', like any other person alive at that point.

also, all you talking about the Good Old Days when men were Men and women probably were as well and blah blah soft modern metro pansies...... some of you normally say highly intelligent things that i enjoy reading. i am saddened.

I enlisted on September 1st 2001. I was at M.E.P.S. On September 11. The fbi declined me on September 12, due to some background issues.

If they brought in the draft and I were picked, Id go. Id hate to leave my 6 month old, but Id also hate to tell him i was a draft dodger as well. I have been to prison, I had to go to my fathers funeral shackled from head to toe. Once you've had to do that, war doesn't seem too hard to cope with. Although I've never been to war, unless you consider fighting everyday in prison and seeing people being stabbed to death, losing arms, spilling guts and seeing people die in a Texas prison from heat....war.

Id go.

First we get treated like crap and they become very selfish and greedy, Then they make problems with the rest of the world and now they cant handle there own miserable life which they chose to live with. And now they want help but instead of asking us they force us to be in front of the lines.

I've been saying this for quite some time though...we need to start enlisting prisoners.

Why? I don't think having some car theft or crackhead in the military is a good idea.

Now, making them work for NASA is a better idea. Imagine the things NASA could do if they weren't too concerned about getting their astronauts back?

Absolutely not some people aren't wired to do the job. They flip out and die.sometimes taking good troops with them. They've screwed up and allowed the Army to draft criminals and we've seen how these people act without effective command.
There have been too many deployments and the game appears to be "Lets defeat the US militarily by over extending them with wars".No other world power could defeat us.But the president is driving our forces into the ground and screwing up the economy.I think a draft is the least of your worries right now.

Decades ago I joined the Navy to get out of going to Viet Nam and one of the first places they sent me was Viet Nam 358 days on land. So if you think joining the Navy will get you out of a combat zone it could very well not happen.

Here's the thing that people just don't seem to get, but the government is saying that by living FREELY in the United States (No one forces anyone to stay here) and enjoying the lifestyles the United States has to offer that in exchange if they call you to war you will go. That's the deal. No one is forcing you to like it, and no one is forcing you to stay in the United States.

Being a former veteran and a former Marine, I don't necessarily believe in a draft ANYMORE. I used to, back when men were still somewhat men and still the majority. Today MEN are the minority, most boys stay boys their whole lives, making decisions with their small heads and measuring themselves by how much they bench press instead of how they treat their wives and family or how ambitious they are in life to grow and evolve. Who's fault is this? Theirs or a soft society?

I would not want to fight next to people who are forced to be there, because I couldn't trust them with my life and in war you rely on your brothers. The Marine Corps knows this and this is what they train and instill.

So what's a solution? Well, a draft doesn't have to be combat related. People could be drafted into civil service roles, whether administrative or maybe building tanks on an assembly line. Service could mean a multitude of different things other then going to war.

man so many militairy vets generalize (which is a generalization also) or i could say it how this guy said it " every miltiary vet is brainwashed and generalizes and hates younger generation people because not as many will blindly go to war for any reason whatsoever just because their masters say GO KILL SHIZ::"

I suppose when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. If we were in World War 3, and my family's lives were at risk, yes, I'd join without question. But I will not participate in a war on behalf of the American exceptionalism bandwagon. How in the heck can there be an economic debt crisis when our money is a faith-based currency?

I can kill if it means protecting those I care about, but other than that, I have no interest in fighting for their Monopoly money, their I-pads or their facebook profiles. I mean we can't really split hairs when it comes to war. It's rather black and white. Peace through charred ruins, or peace through diplomatic measures. I'd tell you what Jesus would do, but I hear he isn't taking interviews anymore.

Yes, I have a response ,. and as so many before me , all that have HONORABLY served with me , and all of us that will do so again if called upon in defence of my faith ,family, community, country and the united states constitution !!!
I CANNOT AND WILL NOT submit myself or my sons to the current politicaly ( ie;financial) worldwide elitest agenda that clearly DEFIES said constitution.
Nowhere in the last decade of agressive warfare can anyone anywhere on this planet TRUTHFULLY say that we have campained in defence of this nation. having stated this I AM ,,I CAN,AND I WILL publicaly stand in defiance of any draft bill submitted in defiance of our constitution. Alone if i must but preferably alongside patiots nationwide saying NO.

If they've reached this far towards the bottom of the barrel, things are bad... Really, really bad. So naturally I'd go.

But since I'm nearly fifty...odds are things will not get that bad.
