I've been saying this for quite some time though...we need to start enlisting prisoners. We have an overload in our prison system so one way to alleviate this issue it to make those who have 5 or more years in prison to do their sentence for the US gov't. Obviously certain stipulations need to be placed like murderers would still need to rot in jail. Not only can they assist their country but we can in turn have a valid attempt at rebuilding their lives.

So let me get this straight. It's okay to go kill others if it's done on orders from your country, but unless it is, killing is murder and murderers ought to rot in jail?

drafts wouldn't be so bad if the politicians and commanders actually went over to those country and tried to get the war over; instead of playing grab ass year after year with one another with the lights out.

based on what I saw in Afghanistan and Iraq, a call for a draft is a call to waste as many people's time as possible.

You're all assuming what I'm saying is "going to war". The draft is just that...it's a draft. It builds up our Army and anything after that is pure speculation. Sure history has it that they may go to war but I'm answering what the OP asked. Let's also not forget that more and more of war is done thru technology and less ground OPS. I can't change or deny anything with what our country does and some of it I am not proud of but god damn it I will fight for my country. There is a reason we have soooooo many that flee to the US every day. You bitch and complain about the US, about the gov't, hell I do to, but do you think I'm leaving...no. I've got it made here. I don't have the worries of other countries and I'm relatively happy around here.

That's not for me to judge...only God can judge.

So I could be drafted but I'm ok with that. Sure it would suck but I've got a technology degree and background so I'm quite certain I would not be doing hand to hand combat. Besides...we all know this is not happening in the near future.

Well, if it is for full blown war, and anything like are last and current wars, I will stand my ground and they can kill me on my own soil. I'm not going off to die in a foreign land for bull#. I can do that here thank you very much.

Would you rather die on, as some would say, corrupt, criminal land that is the US or would you rather die on the "Holy Land" over East. Which they seem to think shooting women who are raped against their will is a crime. Wow what a messed a world. Maybe Dec 21 2012 isn't such a bad thing after all.

The husband and I are too old and time already served in combat. BUT.. Ill tell you this, if it was a draft simply to bloat the numbers Im all for it. Get these kids jobs and eduction that they cant get and cant afford. Hell, Id volunteer and sign up if it was defending the homeland FROM the homeland

Wont happen though. Obama has made mil pers cuts and seems to want to make the numbers anorexic.

So .... prisoners can "assist" the criminal trash in Washington kidnapping, torturing, murdering and looting people in foreign lands? And this is supposed to rehabilitate them?

How about a better idea?

I propose this gangster government quit trafficking guns, narcotics and nuclear materials, quit overthrowing governments and murdering their citizens and quit putting our citizens in jail for victimless "crimes". The result would be far less prisoners here and far less troops necessary in the military.

Well not everything done in the US gov't is bad. You could go to Mexico where the after 5pm you can't leave your house or you can be sure to find your head 100 miles away from you body. Just saying.

That's what my main point is. Look how intimidating China is...approx 7 million total. Double our numbers. But again...it's not ground wars anymore as much as it is technological.

Well when we piddlepiss around with these stupid soft occupations and call them wars with boots on the ground, its just a game. Theyre going to play that game forever regardless of the ability to fight wars with Tech.

Well..why would they need to do that? restart the draft..just look at how many young people are forced to join the military simply because they can not find a decent paying job?

Ship all the jobs overseas..check

People desperate for employment..check

Where to turn to for a paycheck and a means of support the military..check

almost seemed planed...check

Cheers Coco

I'd say a good 40% wouldn't it make it pass the drug test.

Nobody should have to be forced to fight in a cause that they do not believe in. We must also not forget that war is in most cases only fought for the profits of those "above" us and I for one do not believe that anyone should have to die for another man to make more money, especially not when the men making money from those wars already have more money than they will even need...

Here's the thing that people just don't seem to get, but the government is saying that by living FREELY in the United States (No one forces anyone to stay here) and enjoying the lifestyles the United States has to offer that in exchange if they call you to war you will go. That's the deal. No one is forcing you to like it, and no one is forcing you to stay in the United States.

Being a former veteran and a former Marine, I don't necessarily believe in a draft ANYMORE. I used to, back when men were still somewhat men and still the majority. Today MEN are the minority, most boys stay boys their whole lives, making decisions with their small heads and measuring themselves by how much they bench press instead of how they treat their wives and family or how ambitious they are in life to grow and evolve. Who's fault is this? Theirs or a soft society?

I would not want to fight next to people who are forced to be there, because I couldn't trust them with my life and in war you rely on your brothers. The Marine Corps knows this and this is what they train and instill.

So what's a solution? Well, a draft doesn't have to be combat related. People could be drafted into civil service roles, whether administrative or maybe building tanks on an assembly line. Service could mean a multitude of different things other then going to war.

Me being 21 and in good shape, I would most certainly be drafted. But no matter how much I love my country, I wouldn't actually fight in a war I don't think we should be involved in the first place. Now, if we're talking about Israel or some of Europe, then that's a different story. Or maybe the drug cartels in Mexico. I'd be more than willing to fight then.
