They say they are 'fair and balanced', but they clearly aren't.

Fox News is fair and balanced to their audience.

You are apparently not their audience because otherwise you would see how fair and balanced they actually are.

So am I the odd one out thinking that the only honest news show is the Daily Show?

I don't consider the daily show news. Just a show with news clips in it.

I disagree. For them to be a news source, they need to be fair and balance to the truth without all the bias and opinion injected into it.

Granted, none of the other sources are fair and balanced either, but since they advertise it as their slogan, it makes them even worse since they don't live up to it.

I'm not defending the others, they're just as bad, but they don't come outright and lie about it in their slogan.

ETA: I do want to add that ALL of the news sources, especially their web-based news is absolutely, positively HORRIBLE!!! It's not journalism, it's not news, it's nothing but sensationalism and would be considered "yellow journalism" if journalism at all. This is not the "Press" that was given freedom.
The tv broadcasts are nothing more than exaggerated talkshows and reality shows, not news and I'm utterly disgusted by all of it.
My local stations are decent, they give the traffic, the weather, local stories that contain only the facts, nothing written into them to grab the audience and I like that. I wish the national news was much more like the local.

It's not just foxnews that I hate, I hate ALL of them. They are ALL biased, they are ALL skewed and not a single one of them is worth the salt in their bread. They disgust me on multiple levels.

ok, done ranting now....

My local stations come out of Lexington Kentucky. Fox56(WDKY), CBS27 (WKYT), ABC36(WTVQ) and NBC18 (WLEX is what they use, they don't even say "NBC") ... the local stations are very good, although the CBS one is my favorite which makes Fox also a favorite since it's the exact same news team on both of the channels...they use the same building too, they just have two broadcasting antennas

As far as entertainment goes, I do like their sitcoms and shows a lot!

LOVE Bones, House, Fringe and of course the Simpsons and Family Guy. ...not real crazy about that Bob's Burgers, it's just kinda stupid and don't really like the Cleveland Show much but I can tolerate it. American Dad's ok and I've even watched Glee a few times to try to figure out what the big deal with it was...

Their slogan "Fox, first in Comedy" is closer to being true than the slogan "Fair and Balanced is" and, in fact, I've used the line "Fox, first in comedy, you can tell by their newscast"....

The local station here does ok, but it's the exact same staff as the CBS station and the CBS and Fox local stations are in the same building. They do the local fox news then switch over and do the local cbs news which is kinda weird since at the national level they're at opposite ends of the spectrum.

The issue is, and Fox openly admits and repeats it, is that most people think it is Fox NEWS. It isn't it is OPINIONS - and they state it as such, only because they play it off as news, people actually think it is. It isn't.

It boils down to liberals hating points of view that aren't their own and repeating what the rest of the Democrat dominated mass media says. The people who complain about Fox are nothing more than political pawns shouting for their ideological side. None of the people complaining about Fox in this thread EVER have anyhting to say about the constant lies and blatant partisanship from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, NPR or the other. Hell, NPR and PBS ghet public funds to basically push Democrat policy. Can anyone here imagine a right leaning network getting public funds and getting away with it?

I think I know why. Sean Hannity and Bill O. Only Olberman could be compared to them in terms of his blowhard nature and he isn't on the news anymore. And again, neither Sean or Bill have anything to do with news. Theirs are opinion shows - openly stated as such. It is just hot air and nothing else.

I will use myself as an agitation meter and say that I am a peaceful, calm and relatively happy guy and Fox news, particularly Sean Hannity is the only thing that makes we want to throw things! Why, because of their supercilious demeanor, with coy laughter and facial expressions. Their vitriol and divisiveness spills even over into others world's that do not watch it, via at the dinner table or work place from others who take fox as gospel. Yes all the news outlets are sensationalist opinion mills, but imo, since fox is the most watched, then they lead the pack in lies, deceptions and angst. To me, the one shouting the loudest from the highest soapbox is always the first to fall into the mud of hypocrisy because they are so damn exclamatory in their self admitted OPINIONS!

I watched all of the news shows obsessively for 3 years and fox came out of the gate EVERY SINGLE DAY with labeling, fingerpointing and sarcasm. "Far left, progressive, secular, liberal blah blah blah, as if everything would be just fine if there were no progressives at all in the world. Come on man, please.
They are hate merchants, plain and simple, and an audience of 1 to 2 million is not really representative of our country folk, so it is UNFAIR to paint them as more accurate and fair about things just because they have more news viewers. They have more viewers because 911 was a catalyst for people to start tuning in to political affairs and fox captivated an audience that was new to politics and they took advantage of the ignorance(not as in stupid, but as in mis/uninformed), indoctrinating them into the sensationalistic arena of 21st century punditry.

A study showing how fox news audience is misinformed to a significant degree.

Evidence of lies and fallacies?
fandecande.wordpress.com...
foxnewslies.net...

Again, do they all do this? Sure, but who is the loudest and most influential? Then if the hyperbole is what is teeing people off, imo the most popular one is more responsible for the crap storm. Just google fox lies on utube and count how many instances there are when compared to other outlets.

Ya know, the only subject that summons the word 'hate' in my world is fox news( and animal abuse), and for me that says something. Yea, I could just not watch it, but I still have to deal with it here, at work and at family gatherings. The thing is, neither party has all the answers so why the hell should these clowns try and blame EVERYTHING on the left?!?! Oh yea, because of the company they work for and ratings and profits.
I once heard that silly Saturday show and they actually said, "we do not want a peaceful world, we would all be out of a job!" Nuff said.....

The people who complain about Fox are nothing more than political pawns shouting for their ideological side.

Or....we are all just sick and tired of folks like you generalizing and taking smack about others that include mothers, grandparents, friends and sometimes ourselves. Quit it will ya! It is not always about the political specifics, sometimes it is just the attitude and divisiveness in general. Maybe there IS a reason why they are the most hated.

Some of us are also sick of the general hate and animosity that spawns in the muddy waters of fox news, blah!
Do you think the left is the only group that are "political pawns shouting for their ideological side.?" See how crazy it all is? Life is not black and white, so neither should our perspectives in such an absolute fashion.

Hell, NPR and PBS ghet public funds to basically push Democrat policy. Can anyone here imagine a right leaning network getting public funds and getting away with it?

Is it 'democratic' policy or just striving for equality, a full picture, ALL the facts and real fairness?

well then people are idiots because they should know the difference between opinion shows and news shows. Fox has news shows on before 7 PM with the exemption of the five since it took over Glenn Beck's spot.

This part of the point. Many of these 'idiots' are the ones who go out in public and spew their regurgitated opinions as fact, that sometimes actually influence others. This is just madness and destructive.

Why is Fox banned in Canada, while other stations are not? Answer; they lie and are a propaganda station.

Because Fox leads the other news when it comes to lying. They push heavy propaganda, total ignorance, and hatred. They are single-handedly leading the nation in hate. They rile people up with b.s. they only thinly veil their prejudices. Once upon a time you were nice to whomever you invited on your show, now Oreilly has made it acceptable to call your guest an idiot, ask them questions and not allow them to answer. They do all this to set a mood that idiot americans slurp up, thinking "he's such a good patriotic 'Murican that he just can't take it. He is tryin' to be civil, but he just can't stand for it!" And it gets them fired up and makes them think its acceptable and so it helps close off logical discussiion by making rudeness and closemindedness acceptable. In realit Oreilly is just playing up a gimmick.

Really Fox does lie more than the rest. You prob don't need us to tell you tho just youtube a documentary on it. Really just read up on it.

People hate Fox news because it's extremely moronic in nature. The people that watch it are people that do not know what socialism or communism even is and they'll tell you up and down it is evil. They claim to love freedom but are against gay marriage, against mosques being built in NYC, and cry when people want the word "God" out of the pledge of allegiance (which was written by a socialist by the way).

I'm generalizing but whatever.

Anytime I leave Fox news on as background noise they keep telling me we need to go to war with Iran or Syria. Right now it's all about Obamacare non-stop bashing even though their savior Mitt Romney implemented nearly the same thing in MA.

This thread is a complete and utter joke!

How can I say that? Easily. When you see posters talk about the "good ol days" of ATS this thread is a prime example of what we did NOT see so much back in the good ol days. This OP makes his post, which is fine, but clearly has no interest or intention of understanding the answers for the questions of which was asked in the OP. This is clearly seen by reading the replies on page 1 of this thread. Case in point:

I kind of have an issue with that...

Now the above quoted post was completely ignored by the OP. Instead of addressing this perfectly valid point- the OP chooses to reply only to those who agree with the OP or those who can be easily attacked. Like the poster on page 2 who posted a video to which the OP replies with:

I love how you couldn't find anything but this to discredit Fox News. A completely bias unofficial source

next...

Couldn't find anything? How about the point made on page one? IF a "News" Organization is fighting in court for their right to put out misinformation and outright lies, do they not discredit themselves? I can understand why the OP would want to avoid this point being made, when it is so much easier to defend and/or attack people who are too wrapped up in the little things while missing the big picture.

Back in the "good ol days" of ATS, many of us disagreed A LOT. We had some heated discussions and debates, but the difference between then and now is we didn't argue to be right. We argued to open minds and put forth a different perspective. Which even when disagreed with- at least the point would be considered, discussed, and not flat out ignored.

My disdain for FOX News has nothing to do with Conservative or Liberal. Personally I do not find FOX News to be "conservative" at all. I often wonder if people really even know what that word means anymore. What is conservative about supporting bailouts? What is conservative about pushing war propaganda? Answer: NOTHING!!!

FOX News is just as "conservative" as MSNBC or CNN. In other words: It is all rubbish! They ALL lie. All the MSM outlets continually push an agenda while they keep the viewers arguing amoungst themselves over "liberal" or "conservative". It is no different than our Political Parties. They differ on the issues that do not matter- like abortion, drugs, and welfare... but on the larger issues that should matter to everyone.. like War, Healthcare, and spending... they all agree.

Take off your blinders already! Pull your head out of your backsides and really look around you and see what is going on!
