Hello ATS, long time lurker (2 or 3 years) decided to sign up as I feel the time has come!

I'm interested in stuff like lucid dreams/astral projection stuff like that and conspiracy theories in general really. I'm hoping I can learn lots while I'm here!

Thanks for reading

Welcome!

There are plenty on here discussing your interests. Don't be discouraged about the political rambling, it is an election year in the states. I have seen some very interesting threads in the last few weeks about lucid dreaming and how to remember your dreams; peanut butter before bed I think.

Jump in and have fun.

Peanut butter? haha. I'd try it but I don't even think you can buy peanut butter where I live!
And I try to avoid politics it just tends to annoy me and I don't believe anything any of them say so I wont be going near that!

Well I have read if you try pineapple at lunch that it will help you vividly remember your dreams. Do you get pineapple?

I also try to avoid politics, unless the discussion is on a local level. My first undergrad was in political science too!

I guess I learned enough to know knew nothing at all.

Don't think I've ever tried pineapple ever! Must try that but my dreams are vivid all the time lately, so vivid I find myself doing reality checks a lot in real life now because I'm not sure if it's real or not haha.

Weirdest thing ever happened tho in one of my dreams yesterday I think, I'm sure you've heard of the reality check where you try put a finger/thumb through a wall and if it's a dream it goes through the wall, well I did this in a dream and the wall was hard and my finger didn't go through! When I woke up I was like ..seriously haha was so annoyed but I'm just happy my dreams are really vivid all the time but want to start having lucids again havn't in ages

I have had trouble sleeping since I was 17-18 years old. I began by taking melatonin as a supplement. Recently, due to stress, I have had a lot of trouble having restful sleep. I took Melatonin and one night it didn't seem to work so I took A LOT. I had some of the most vivid dreams in recent memory. Most times I consider my dreams to be a vision wrapped in linen; kind of blurry, but recognizable. Recently, I have not been able to use any of the techniques to awaken from dreams and they are vivid! Living almost a second reality. My father was alive and I was in high school again. I woke up in this "reality" when myself in my dream began screaming at the top of my lungs. It was weird. I also had one that was about a job I interviewed for with a private company and in the dream the company responded to me that the bank had failed so they were not hiring. Just weird stuff.

I know what you mean and I've always wanted to try melatonin because I have trouble sleeping a lot and also I've heard that it helps with vividness/LDs! Can you get it in health food shops or where? Do you have many lucid dreams or is it just something you are interested in?

Tons of lucid dreams. I "experimented" with psychedelics when I was younger and some of my dreams seem like those experiences. As I said I do not sleep well lately, so my schedule is three hours asleep, ten awake, an hour nap... Just awful, but when I sleep it is such a light sleep I feel awake. Sometimes I think I am talking to my wife. Sometimes I am preforming a daily action. Sometimes I am meeting V. Putin (happened recently and he seemed approachable and nice)

Yes, in the US melatonin is available in many stores and health food/supplement stores. I believe Wal-Mart has them, as well as, many of the major drug stores.

Is lucid dreaming just something that comes naturally to you or is it just the light sleep factor I heard light sleep is the best time for LD's..

I don't live in the US tho, but I can look around

Try online for melatonin. I am not sure about the LD, I have always been a light sleeper. Another dream was when I was a child the first gulf war was happening. I saw all of the AA gun blazing and the bombs going off and heard the news reports about chemical weapons. Then when I was asleep that night I woke suddenly to get out of bed and look out my window. I remember a fog on the ground and being very scared of the mist. I cannot correctly assume that I was lucid, but it felt real. If I were awake I would have tried to wake my dad so he could explain that everything was ok. I did not go get him.

I try to stay based in science and what can be proven. I know there are other things out there for us, that we don't understand. Maybe if I experimented more when I was younger, or now, I would be able to connect with that portion of my brain that successive years of university study closed off to my perception.

Thanks for all the info Dookie Master I'll look about that melatonin and those dreams sound pretty intense more intense than any dreams I've ever had I'd say. Why did you decide to do what you did in university just out of interest?

Sup Derek, I'm afraid I have no idea what you are talking about, unless Hyrule is some secret name for something
it's probably my fault for choosing such a name that has probably been in a lot of things and you probably thought that's why I picked the name Tingle because I saw it in a movie or game or something haha, but I really just Picked it because it came into my head at the time

Undergrad I have a political science degree, international relations with a concentration on African Political systems (represents nothing since I decided to teach when I finished college).

I have an undergrad in psychology and I am working towards my Doctorate in Psychology in cognitive. None of which help me find an outstanding job to date, but I am interested in the field and trying to help others. So I guess it will pay off in the "end".

Hyrule is the land in Legend of Zelda. I have no idea why that is directed at your name.

I misunderstood your question. I decided upon political science because I wanted to know how the world worked, from within. When I found out I could never know why things were the way they were, I began to study other cultures and their governments. I found it interesting, but not job worthy.

I'd love to do Psychology in university when I'm older
But that's a few years away so I have time to think.

I looked up Hyrule Tingle and there were a lot of links so there must be some connection

My field is Cognitive, so there is a joke that goes "we think about how to think". Which in more concrete terms is how the brain processes information. It is an up and coming field in the psychology realm, but it is not a direction to go to be a clinician, I am not exactly sure what direction you would want to go if you wanted to help people with the talking cure. But, it will get you a job in the mental health field.

If you don't mind me asking what part of the world are you from?
