Well, if you believe Assad, he does have a sampson option as well of sorts. He has threatened to burn the middle east if he goes down. The best case scenario is he pleads for amnesty and leaves the country with his money to go retre somewhere. Worst case scenario he thnks he has no choice because he is on the way out so he does indeed release his arsenal and burn the middle east. I dont think he is close that point yet however.

I don't think Assad will trust anything the west says or does. In Libya Gaddafi was at one point assured that if he leaves the country his convoy won't be bombed and he will be allowed to go. So what happened when Gaddafi tried to leave the country? His convoy was bombed and his location was transmitted to the rebels, who then proceeded to torture and kill him. I don't think Assad has any choice but to keep on fighting as the head of a sovereign government of a sovereign nation.

Blind flag waving has nothing to do with it. I'd be the first to admit America makes many errors, and more often than not, but I question the very legitimacy of the ICC, which is the point you seemed to miss.

I don't accept any governmental institution that doesn't have authority vested in the people. And even if the investiture is those of other governments, such as the UN, I fail to see the moral value of an organization whose primary membership has scores of tyrants given equal legitimacy with those under law.

Sovereignty without consent is tyranny, and if there is one criticism I would level of the Europeans, one their own reports freely admit, is that they rarely bother to check with what their own people want before making any of the institutions or political decisions they do, for better or for worse.

Assad will wind up like Qhadaffi. No choice in the matter. If he were really concerned for his people, and the rest of us, he would speak the truth. For the first time, he would state the actual fact. The central bank wants the assets of the few remaining holdouts: Syria, Cuba, NK, Iran and the Sudan. The only real holdouts at this point are Syria and Iran. He'd stand up and give a world wide press conference and lay out the story, in COMPLETE detail, and post any and all documents online.

He won't. In the movies this happens, in the real world it never does. On occasion one may rail against it, but even Castro never came out with a highly detailed speech, he only spoke in crazy, vague terms. which, may suggest those who claim to resist, are not resisting at all, but are complicit.

you seem to know more about how those 15,000 people died than I do, but if Assad cared about his people he would have done something similar to:

Haile Selassie in WWII. He fled Ethiopia and fought against the invading Italians as a government in Exile.
The French did the same when the Germans marched into Paris...they didn't allow their city to be reduced to rubble for a man.

Assad's pride is too great to follow well established and successful techniques in fighting aggressors.

and most likely...no amount of Syrian blood flowing through the streets of Assad's glorious regime is too much, if it means keeping his exalted Throne.

Why should he leave his country?

Are you deluded son?

Should all countries kneel to the evil elite?

Is that what you think should happen?

You need to wake up fast.

Some of the comments you are making are ridiculous.
