Well, if you believe Assad, he does have a sampson option as well of sorts. He has threatened to burn the middle east if he goes down. The best case scenario is he pleads for amnesty and leaves the country with his money to go retre somewhere. Worst case scenario he thnks he has no choice because he is on the way out so he does indeed release his arsenal and burn the middle east. I dont think he is close that point yet however.

you seem to know more about how those 15,000 people died than I do, but if Assad cared about his people he would have done something similar to:
Haile Selassie in WWII. He fled Ethiopia and fought against the invading Italians as a government in Exile.
The French did the same when the Germans marched into Paris...they didn't allow their city to be reduced to rubble for a man.
Assad's pride is too great to follow well established and successful techniques in fighting aggressors.
and most likely...no amount of Syrian blood flowing through the streets of Assad's glorious regime is too much, if it means keeping his exalted Throne.
