People are fighting over a name. Sort of like exclusive naming rights on stadium. Worshipping Jesus to me is idolatry. People pray towards an image.

How is that any different than worshipping Maria or John?

These beliefs in rituals and chants started as early forms of mind control, as a means for the church to fund itselfs.

Your anti-Catholicism is
getting carried away.

that's a bit harsh.I would hardly call myself 'anti-catholic', as I went to catholic school my entire life, and have studied the scriptures since first grade, and even taught sunday school a while. I wasn't even commenting on catholocism as much as i was on Mary of Magdala's religion and on the hebrews of the OT. it's good you know your bible, however there are alot more books out there for you to read, friend. I was simply explaining some word origins and smattering about a bit of trivial info, food for thought if you will, the only people I am prejudice against are biggots... so please calm down...

Catholics do not pray to an image, whether it be Jesus, Mary or John. They are praying to what that image represents. Just like a picture of your mother is not really your mother. Just an image of her.

I was told that Mary Magdelene was Hathor in ancient egypt who joined Isis at her temple, which they each had temples.

Reference the above posts of Amethyst and
irdulili .... You two are so far out there ...
words escape me ... Egyptian sects ... Horus,
Nimrod .... YIKES! Your anti-Catholicism is
getting carried away.

And Amethyst - your 'discussion' of Mary not
remaining a virgin her life because of the word
'brethren' has been debunked over and over.
I'd suggest readings for you, but I have a feeling
that you are comfortable, stuck in your anti-Catholic
mode and that you really don't want to know
why the Catholic church teaches what it does.

However, if you dare read what the early church
fathers had to say about Mary, the Saints, etc.
(early as in before the year 200 or so) -

Praying to saints does not help, either,
because God does not take the counsel
of His saints...

What about Matt. 27:56 which distinctly calls Mary the mother of James, and Joses, Jesus' Brothers. Mark6:3 which mentions sister's also. Mark15:40 again mentions them and names salome as a daughter and Joseph is no where mentioned.

We are all supposed to pray for each other.
We can ask others to pray for us. This is
the 'communion of saints'.

Praying for each other -
Jer 15:1, Acts 12:5, Rom 15:30, 2 Cor 13:7,
Eph 6:18, Col 4:3, 1 Thess 5:25, 2 Thess 3:1,
Heb 13:18, Jas 5:16

Intercession of Saints
Tob 12:12, 2 Mac 15:14 and Rev 5:8, 8:4

I LIKE REV 5:8 and 8:5 - Major intercession from the saints!

We are surrounded by saints - Heb 12:1

Saints now in Heaven
1 Thess 3:13, Heb 11:40, Heb 12:23, 1 Pet 3:19, Rev 6:9

Yes, praying for us. not praying to us or us to them. Remeber God is the one in the spotlight not us. We have done nothing nor can do anything to deserve salvation from God.

Miracles through relics

Acts 5:15, Acts 19:11-12

I see Relics mentioned no where. Only that God at that time worked miracles that wat at that time. Yes, God can work through anything or anyone, but he will never allow that thing to take the glory for his work, that's why God chooses to use the weak things of this world to confound the wise and bring glory to his name. Not anyone or anything elses.

Flyers fan all those scriptures you just named tells about praying for saints. Not directing your prayers to them.
