You forgot one:
Wicca:
As you harm none, do as thou wish. And we follow this rule to the letter at all times.

I am sorry. I wasn't trying to slight anyone's beliefs. Its just that I could be here for days listing all the schools of thought that this concept runs through. I just wanted to provoke thought without going crazy in the details. Sending out positivity to you!

"The way you treat yourself is the way you will treat 'others'
It has nothing to do with how 'others' treat you or have done to you. It is all about the relationship you have with yourself. You hate yourself, you will hate the world."

Again, I am right there with you on this but I also know that I am not even close to having it all down so to speak. I have to work everyday at being aware and understanding why I react the way I do in certain situations. I have to be aware of my faults and call myself on them daily. I am a work in progress and practice makes perfect so they say.

I try to.

Sometimes I judge people harshly and treat them according to how they treat others.

Apologies not necessary, I was simply adding to what you already wrote, nothing more. And may Love and Light from the Great Mother be with you too.

The good thing about the golden rule is that it is self-evident. It doesn't even matter who or what religion preached it because everyone should be of sound enough mind to know this already. It's so plainly obvious one should not even have to put it into words for it to mean something.

We are in total agreement on this point! That's the beauty of it. It's simple and it fits into any belief system. Sending ya a good vibe!

I have struggles as well but I don't beat myself back into an old paradigm and I always try to recognize when my faults are getting the better of me. Once I catch myself I ask myself questions. Why do I feel the way I am feeling. I try to get at the root emotion. Sometimes my anger is actually caused by fear or pain. Its important for me to get to the heart of me. Once I feel like I got it isolated I can deal with it using acceptance and self love. Some days are great others are a struggle but I am always striving to better myself thus bettering humanity as a whole. Sending ya a good vibe!

Thankyou for presenting this as a global philosophy. I would go one further and posit that this rule is in fact a universal law. In Spirit - all is one, there is no separation.

I am You, You are Me. We are One

It is only an illusion that we are separate.

Peace Out - Love to All

.
Thankfully, by God's Grace and help, I do an overwhelming percentage of the time.
.
Of course, I PREFER for folks to be candid, straight-forward--even blunt, if necessary . . . to wake me up to something important that I may be blind to.
.
In other areas, folks tell me I give too much.

Treat others in the same manner as you would like to be treated and don't treat others in a manner that you would not like to be treated. The world would be a far more pleasant and harmonious place if everyone lived in such a way. (I guess the exception would be sadists and masochists).

I think Itisnowagain is saying, let go of the self which you feel is not perfect and realize your true self. Your true self is as perfect as it can be and cannot be worked on or cultivated. The self you feel must be worked on to make perfect will never be perfect because it is an illusion, a mistake in perception. Lose the illusion and you will automatically live by the Golden Rule without any effort or intention or striving needed.

Peace in the middle east.

I agree 100%! This simple little rule, philosophy, belief , is whats going to bring us all together in my opinion.
I appreciate the thanks but I don't really deserve any credit here.

I strive to give to much but I am still working on it. Sounds like you got a foot up on me!

I thank you all for reading with open minds and sharing your wisdom. Sending positivity out to all and keep the sharing of wisdom and knowledge coming!

Well....I think the True Self does need cultivation, in fact, all the time like a garden does. One must water, fertilize, pull weeds, hoe, and nurture. These are all things good for the Soul. The soul is Energy, if it is not fed, it will wither. Be the Spirit, instead of having one, and be the self, instead of trying to be somebody else. Be kind to all, and respect those who respect you. Hate no one, love everyone, but do not like everyone. Friends should not take more than one hand to count. Back your spouse, even if they are wrong, and be truthful at all times, lies are too easily forgotten with age. Do not feed war and strife, and speak out against hunger, and torture, and war. Adore the children, for they are our future, after all, and take care of the Old, for they raised us to adulthood.
Be Real.

Be wary of the Onenists. I am not you. You are not me. We are not guilty by association. We are unique beings who exist and die only once.

My fellow rebel, the true self is not like a manicured and contrived garden that a human has created and must maintain, it is more like the wild and uncontrived beauty of a jungle. A garden is more like the 'false' self, one can spend years sweating and suffering on their knees in the hot sun, planting flowers and cutting away weeds, and at the end of the day if they are not too tired to enjoy reflecting upon it, then some happiness may arise. Even then, sooner or later this garden will no longer be. And so by remaining in bondage to this 'false' self we work our tails off just to enjoy a few brief moments of satisfaction. The true self is unpredictable and uncontrived like a forest is, it cannot be limited to or by qualities such as suffering or happiness. No one needs to maintain a great rain forest, it maintains itself. Still this is not a great analogy because unlike the true self, with enough time a rain forest can and will be destroyed. The true self is beyond time and space, beyond all conditions and qualities.

That's why I am so drawn to this concept/belief/philosophy. Our individuality is key to its success. I don't have to give up any of my personal spirituality unless I make that choice. An atheist doesn't have to believe in God in order for us to work together. Every perspective is unique and has great value. All you need is an open mind and an open heart.

I understand what you and wagain are saying but for me these things are a learning experience. This post kind of reminds me of an experiment I am conducting in my garden. I have a small area where I have done little to no cultivation. No fertilizer or vitamins. Very little weeding. Nature versus nurture in the garden. So far most of the "wild" plants seem to be growing noticeable better. Crazy and very interesting. I respect both of your perspective and I am eager to continue to learn and share knowledge and wisdom with you both! sending out a Positive vibe!

This is where I kind of fall into right now as well. I am a work in progress but we don't have to agree on everything to work for the betterment of humanity. The golden rule gives us the flexibility to believe as we choose but still come together without threat of being asked to or being forced to comply with anothers belief system. I believe very deeply in personal spirituality. Once we can step back from the battle of whose right and whose wrong concerning spiritual belief or non belief. It allows us to focus on issues we can work together on. Open sharing of knowledge gives us all the opportunity to take what we need and incorporate it into our own lives without someone telling you "your wrong" or that you should believe this that or the other. Acceptance and tolerance. Sending positive energy to ya!
