the earth is NOT overpopulated. the reason behind so many people living in extreme poverty is greed.

women need to? babies and old incredibly frustrating? cease and desist? take the pill? how about you cut off your wonkie-donkey to make sure noone in the future will say things like that?

and it's the scientists spreading overpopulation BS that need to die off.

The Earth IS overpopulated, and is getting worse by the day. There are simply not enough natural resources to sustain a population of 6+ billion. To answer your other concerns:

1) Yes, women should take birth control pills if they don't want to have a baby.
2) Babies are frustrating. Ever been stuck on a plane with a crying baby? How bout a movie theater when some inconsiderate jackass decides that James Cameron's latest blockbuster is an appropriate place to bring a toddler?
3) Old people are frustrating. They are terrible drivers, responsible for more car accidents each year than newly licensed teenagers. They cling to antiquated ideas, and are grouchy. And they smell funny (recently proven by science).
4) Me and my "wonkie-donkey" don't engage in activity that would result in pregnancy.

technically no, the world is not overpopulated, yet. The problem isn't the current population, it is the popluation's growth. We can only have a few more billion people on this earth before we will have basically destroyed all natural habitats as we farm, fertilize, drill, mine, etc... the amount of space taken up by actual people isn't very much, it is the land use that is the problem.

Only 13 flags for this. This is something that is very significant. Also being able to restore youthful dna is needed.

It's funny how this forum always says. Deny Ignorance.
Yet in a way they are ignoring this.

I thought the aging process was because of faulty cell replication and reduced replication. IE a copy of a copy of a copy and the original information begins to degrade. Cells dying off faster than they can be replaced (bones).

It would seem to me (but I'm not an expert), that to slow or remove the aging process one would need to fix the replicating process with new (original) instructions and to insure that cell replication does not slow.

This has huge ramifications.

Forget the population argument. That's garbage anyway.

What if we could keep our Einsteins, Davinci's, Hawking's, Oppenheimer's, MLK's, and all the other AMAZING people who have contributed so much to the advancement of our species for ever? I would bet that some of these scientists / artists / thinkings would choose to live in a bubble to keep doing what they love to do eternally.

And of course if you have to take a pill to suppress the protein, then you could theoritcally stop taking it and die.
Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. #, I'd even pay more taxes to pay for these genius minds to live without an immune system (you know like special food, HEPA filters, etc etc to keep them healthy) so they could further advance our society (assuming they would agree to live that way).

Pretty cool #.

(Side note - maybe this could also be the beginning of vampires!?! Am I right!? No aging, but needs to suck the blood of other people so they can still survive! Interesting thought eh?)

Living forever is a bad thing for many reasons.. but population is probably one of the main things, if we're ever going to become "immortal" then we need to start funding NASA and learning to colonize other planets ASAP.. the earth can't handle that kind of strain...

So true but the probability is that most will kill themselfs soon.
The amount of atomic weapons per head is massive.
We will see after the middle east kick in.

Unlocking immortality could have so many implications to think about. For example, isn't it natural for the old to die out and be replaced by younger generations to keep culture advancing? Would only the wealthy elite have access to immortality, and gain wealth and power over centuries?

Or would it become wide-spread, resulting in other issues, such as dealing with new family paradigms, over-population and cultural differences between people originating in different centuries instead of decades?

In another scenario, the earth could become highly depopulated, and the remaining few could become immortal in the far future.

I think one of these or something similar is bound to happen eventually.

I see this as tech that could wipe out the human race....

I feel exactly the same way and am not sure why...Something like the now living forever people would find a way to prevent any babies so they could have all the remaining resources...
and then find out they don't live really forever... or something similarly stupid and self centered....

If you believe in a soul then we already have everlasting life. You wouldn't get a chance to reach the higher state (some call it heaven). I can see evil people wanting this drug.

Also, it doesn't make sense this would result in no immunity? Perhaps they are just saying that so the masses won't take it.

I find it to be useful to live a lot longer than we use to. People working on the cure for cancer and aids can find cures and also help us get our earths eco system back under control. Those that are technologicaly advanced can get us to a planet where we can start to advance our groth and maintain the human population

If we put as much resources into education as we do for war, we would have no need to extend the life of anyone, for the knowledge and methodologies employed by those we deem "great" would be inherent in many more people.

I disagree the more we know the more advanced we can become. which means we could learn so much more and inhabit planets with no way of living. This would be earths greatest acheivment
