Mapping it would not cost them more i think, if they already got the machine, which is pretty common with fisherman.
Sure planning will take time, plus money push these guys into tight spot. But more sonar mapping should be available easily.

Could be a natural rock formation, the "tracks" behind it could be caused by underwater currents flowing across the formation.
But I can see that you have already made your mind up as to what it is.....so, good luck with that
