Mass brawl erupts in front of Goldfish, Kings Cross

Pardon my ignorance here but don't Squaddies fight regardless?

Regiment fights Regiment on drunken nights out. Army fights Navy fight Air Force. Then throw Squaddies from another country into the mix..........

Silly story really, sorry OP. This has been going on forever. Why do you think the need for Military Police? Look back at history - even the Romans had the Urban Cohorts for keeping unruly soldiers in line when in towns and cities.......

OK, this is ridiculous. As an Aussie (living 30 mins away from Kings Cross FYI) I have to say that this "mass brawl" doesn't even rate as a "small biffo" in my view. I was involved in a pub brawl down in Bega on New Years Eve that was much more violent than this, and the place only fit like 40 people in it.

As to the 'American VS Australian' nonsense, this has been going on in ports all over the world for as long as armies have existed. My father served in the Australian Navy for 10 years was back in the 50's and the stories he tells of the mass fights he and his mates used to get into with servicemen from many other countries would turn your ears blue.

One thing I must point out though....this whole "If those were US Marines the Aussies would be scraping themselves up off the ground" crap. Who do you think trains your Marines and Special Forces? The Aussie and the British SAS are considered the best in the world, this is a fact.

I know a few around here that are arrogant and enjoy bashing Americans. That's fine but don't go to the same country and expect to trash the same people without getting your ass kicked (if you're unlucky enough!).

Same happened here in the UK, a few drunken US navy guys (or Marines, I can't remember, they were on one of the big ships off port) decided to start a fight, needless to say, they didn't win (a couple of them were hospitalised).

Now, was that Americans trying to be all arsey, or, was it a few drunken military personnel who after a few beers thought they were all big and hard?

I would say the latter, I think most countries military folk will have found themselves in a similar situation, especially when in a foreign land, they have been trained to fight, and some may even feel they have something to prove, especially when there is scantily clad, attractive women standing nearby.

Just asked because someone suggested that the poster in question did not like Americans.

I don't expect everyone to like Americans though. It's all good.

I have had a few dust ups with the Yanks with my unit.. In Norway, Denmark and in the US against Rangers.. Guess who won??

The Rangers were pussies and on their own turf too

It was fun but stupid and drink related.. It happens..

We used to fight against other British Army units too, and Marine Commandos.. My unit had a bad reputation for it..

Dont expect men in barracks to be plaster saints.. We aint.

We work hard and fight harder.. We work hours that would destroy most people.. We are constantly away from home.. In situations you could not possibly imagine. Do not be surprised when troops cut loose, get tanked up, that scraps happen..

I gotta say mate that contrary to popular opinion not ALL Aussies like Vegemite either (just most of us ). I, for one, can't stand the stuff - the smell makes me gag - but my wife eats it on toast every morning.

Meh, we get tons of foreign naval personnel coming into New York all the time. Things happen sometimes, doesn't ever get reported. Usually all is cool, but stuff happens. Me and a buddy once hung out with four French naval officers one night (two guys, two girls...the girls were hot, too), they were a lot of fun, no fights occurred. Worst thing that happened, one of the guys got his navy cap stolen by a hot model-type girl he let wear it in one of the bars. She just walked out with it when he wasn't looking.

WARNING: Eating to many Tim Tams in one sitting may make one very ill - been there, done that hehe.

You haven't actually consumed a Tim Tam properly BTW until you have bitten off both ends and sucked a cup of tea/coffee through it like a straw. I cannot emphasise enough the awesome involved in doing this!

Slightly off topic, I reckon EvanB sounds like he might be able to answer this, but what exactly is vegemite?? It sounds like something we have over here in the UK called marmite, which is yeast extract that you smear on toast. The slogan is "you will love it, or you will hate it", I can't stand the stuff.

Yep, thats the stuff. Vegemite is the original....Marmite is made by another company trying to cash in on it.

I live quite near to the largest military garrison in the UK and I think the whole of western Europe.
It is scheduled to become home to even more Army personnel.

Squaddies frequently visit my local town for a night out and violence with and between them has been common place since at least back to WWII days.

I've seen, and even been involved in my younger days, in many a disturbance.
Seen squaddies fight squaddies, seen them fight locals, squaddies of various nationalities fight each other and locals etc.
The toughest I ever faced were Fijians - rougher than any Europeans / Yanks / Anzacs etc - and they fight for fun and thought it was all hilarious.

Gurkhas are the best behaved - and I don't think anyone ever would have been stupid enough to cross them anyway.
They tend to be more interested in finding other sources of 'entertainment'.

This 'mass brawl' in Australia was nothing special at all and certainly not unique, it goes on the world over.
