According to the LiveFeed, a newscaster came on a did a report bragging about how a man from Tulsa had been up there 127 hours and 40 minutes? (I think he was wishing this guy holds out longer.) But he said this all started 2:30 am Texas time. (Central)

Wonder why that reporter said 2:30am? I do remember hearing him say it. I thought it was odd at the time. Live Blog puts it at 12:30ish pm.

Yeah that is true. I have heard two things. That he has been up in the crane since 11:30 am and that this all started at 2:30 am...

So does that mean he was on the run from the cops since 2:30 am and then got into the crane at 11:30 am or they just not quite sure when he got up there? I wonder what is up with that.

And I agree, I kind of got the impression that guy was hoping for the guy to hold out longer. He even implied it as a possibility during his newscast...Which some how, I found in bad taste....

Not a "I hope this ends well", just a " this could go on for days".

He's in a covered crane. I think he will be dry. If anything, it will cool it off for him

Wow that chatroom reminded me how much of a toilet the web is.

I used to be on every school newspaper in every school I was in, including college. You become very disillusioned, very quickly. The very first thing they teach you is, "If it bleeds, it leads." Fluffy stories don't pay the bills. The bloodier the better. If you can add human interest to that bloody story, even better. You probably just bought yourself front page. As much as I love journalism, I don't like writing anymore. Everyone keeps telling me, you wrote such good stories, you should write again. I don't know. Knowing what I know about journalism, sometimes, I just don't want to go near it anymore.

Even the comments from those idiots on the chat page, the reporter, and my own sister confirmed it for me. Everyone either wants him to stay up there till he's almost dead, wants him to jump, or wants him to kill himself and save the taxpayers money and a trial. Sadly, that too, is human nature.

He seems to be in a situation much like the people who climb up into and sit in trees to stop cutting.

Bet the crane operator will not be happy when he gets up there afterwards.

The guy will leave eventually, my guess.

Isn't it sad? I too found the comments in that chat from the live feed to be rather disgusting. Racist comments left and right. People encouraging the person to jump and kill himself. People wanting him to get shot or to start shooting...

You are not alone in finding these kind of comments morbid and disturbing.

I do love writing still. But I only did Freelance journalism for a short while here on ATS. The ATS presscorp was only around for a tiny bit. Not long enough for me to get a taste of what it is really like being a journalist.

I still write though. 99% of what I write, I keep to myself though.

Anyway, yeah, you are right...Blood, gore and violence sells...Anything for ratings but good, honest reporting. I find it hard to call the news "News" anymore.

nothing except this

"We were informed that an unidentified man climbed a crane at our residential commons construction site," SMU spokesman Brad Cheves said. "Fortunately, the campus is closed for the Memorial Day holiday. However, upon being informed that someone had gained access to the construction site, through our SMU police we immediately began to secure and cordon off the affected area."

No students were on campus, Cheves said, noting only "essential personnel and visitors" were on the grounds. He also added that a handful of swimmers in a pool near the crane were told to leave.

Kent Best, another SMU spokesman, said earlier that the man in the crane was a suspect fleeing from Dallas police. Gutierrez said she could not confirm that report.

Police blocked off parts of the campus and much of Mockingbird Lane on the south side of the SMU campus, as well as access to a strip mall near the crane. Observers on the ground could see signs of movement in the cab if they looked through binoculars or viewfinders of cameras.

The crane cab was fully exposed to the blazing Texas sun and temperatures were in the low 90s.

Gutierrez said electricity to the crane had been cut, and she believed the radio in the cab was not affected

I read all the posts and saw that side chat thing too. I hope the guy is going to be ok and he gets the help he needs. I also hope he isn't harmed by accident or shot. For anyone to have to do something like that just shows how stressed out and how hard their life has become. Why do people feel the need to kick someone when they are already down? It's just so wrong. He could be someone's dad, father, brother, best friend. People need to imagine it being a family member, how they would feel if they heard the cruel things being said about him.

Anyone know if there is live video of this anywhere? They seemed to have blacked it out...which is interesting since it had been up all day.

Screw the bleeding heart bull crap.
This guy pulled a car jacking with a weapon crashed the vehicle into at least 4 other vehicles and could have killed anyone in the process. If he dies I don`t care but yes sucks to be one of his family members.

All people pulling a car jacking should be shot they kill people and I`m talking innocent people.

Yep, looked like he hung on for two minutes, then either slipped and fell or just let go.

Sad news huh? I bet all those people making jokes and the people that found such jokes "hilarious" aren't laughing any more.

Damn, what a sad ending to this...

It doesn't say what condition he is in... But that is a long fall, if he survived...Well, he will be very lucky.

guys.... he fell & I don't think hes alive anymore
very sad

The suspect in a nearly 15 hour standoff on the SMU campus fell 150 feet from the crane's cab to the ground.
At 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, the man was hanging from the side of the cab when he fell.

What a disgusting post you just made. Screw the bleeding heart crap? Screw your violent " answer" to crime.

This man killed no one! You think committing a crime ( shooting a person) in retaliation for a car jacking, makes sense? No... If anything it would make you a hypocrite.

What were you thinking about when you wrote that...Sometimes people kill people...So we should shoot them...I mean really? Do you not read what you wrote down, before you hit submit?

A man died in a very sad way. It ended in a sad way and no, he did not deserve to die or be shot...jail time, sure.

Take your nonsense solution to carjacking...I don't need it something that doesn't work...

Honestly, shame on you.

Peace and love guys, I am stepping out of this thread.

See you around the board.
