I'll let you guess. It's really not that hard...

I can't tell you why though if you figure it out. It's a long story

Seriously though. To anyone who knows, how do you find your spirit animal?

So what you're telling me is, "If you think it is, it is."

There's really no way to know...except for obvious anti-coincidence. By which, I mean that it's so coincidental, it can't be.

That's what I'm getting from this.

lol.... essentially that's correct but if you must have instructions.

Animal Totem - How to find...

α.Since we are drawn to that which resonates with us, what animal, bird, or insect are you drawn to?
β.When you go to the park, forest, or zoo what animal are you most interested in seeing?
γ.What animal do you most frequently see when you're out in nature or in the city?
δ.What animals are you currently interested in learning about?
ε.Which animal do you find most frightening or intriguing?
ζ.Have you ever been bitten or attacked by an animal?
η.Is there a recurring animal in your dreams or do you have one you have never forgotten?

If you are still uncertain which animal is your totem, here a few exercises you can do to come closer to the answer. You must not try to force the animal to come, it can pick up on that energy and be put off. Being patient and doing the following exercises will draw your animal totem to you.

α.Ask yourself what animal has played a meaningful part in your world? If you're unsure, make a list of animals that have drawn your interest or have left a deep impression on you from paintings, photographs, stories, movies, carvings, etc.
β.Which animal shows up in your life most frequently? Keep a journal of the animals present in your dreams or that you encounter through the day for the next month. How did the animal behave? Did you interact with the animal?
γ.Find a place where you can be alone to meditate. Sit quietly and ask your animal to make it's nature known to you. Feel free to use tools such as incense, smudge, and candles to help you.
δ.Don't give up, sometimes your animal totem is nearby watching to see if you're serious about connecting with it. Keep doing the above exercises until your animal totem makes itself known to you.

Maybe that will help...

ETA - this response so it doesn't get overlooked.

You can try meditation, medicine cards, a shaman, seer or psychic..... But how I have learned was through the ability to see nature and understand what nature tells me since I was a young child.....

What animals are drawn to you in the wild or outside? Are there any that are in the area during a coincidence? Do you have reoccurring dreams of certain animals? Have you dreamt of being a certain animal? Have any animals died in your presence?

You need to listen to your inner self and you will know what is true.....

and this should be repeated....

I've had other connections with animals over the years, but different than the guides. Although the first guide I was aware of was also (much earlier in my life) the first animal I ever felt empathy for/with.

But over the years I have learned that animals do indeed connect mentally with humans.
I caught a skate once, and it flipped over so I could see it's face, and we made eye contact (this was about a 200 pounder) and I felt the fear and confusion it was feeling. It opened it's mouth, I saw the hook caught on a roll of teeth, I plucked it out and I swear it went from a frowning fish to a smiling fish, just like that. It knew I was going to let it go. Skates are weird, they have almost human faces....anyways, we let it go, and I felt awesome after that experience. A definite connection to something else on a mental level. Like two points of awareness becoming aware of each other, honoring each other, and both being wiser from the experience. Crazy.

I can't narrow it down for animals. The instructions above don't really do anything for me, because I have a different answer for each of the questions.

The first animal I remember seeing and connecting with was a huge blue dragonfly. I still like dragonflies, but I don't feel like they guide me anywhere. I really only see them during summer, anyway.

If anything, my spirit guide is a tree.

Animals, though, I can talk to pretty much any animal, and they have always come to me when I sit quietly. There are no animals that recur in my dreams. I meet many animals in my daily life. I see birds and squirrels the most because they are the most populous and least afraid where I live. I have never been afraid of any wild animals, I always just figure they will respect me if I respect them. And, they do.

My blood is extremely varied, and I do have ancestors from several tribes of the Americas, but also many ancestors of tribes from various other continents as well.

Yeah, I didn't go looking for mine either, so the instructions on how to, basically I can't vouch for other than I know it has to do with connecting on a deeper level to nature.

I started thinking about this some more - I realized I had a strong affinity to Polar Bears but that was years ago.
Then now .....
So I live on a 3 acre lot, but the whole back 2 acres is woods.
We've seen a lot of animals, but they just come and go .....then 2 weeks ago
this female wild turkey shows up. I didn't think anything because they usually hang out across the street. And wild turkeys can be startling - they aren't the prettiest looking birds. I see them all the time. But this one she just stayed. Every morning she walks around the house eating whatever is on the ground bugs I think. She comes pretty close to the house. So last night I did visualize something weird it was a bird's head but I couldn't make out the shape. So it could've been another bird like a raven but I kinda think it was the turkey. So I looked it up.
TURKEY
Shared Blessings
The Turkey is the symbol of sacrifice.
It give life so others may live.
Many saints and mystics have Turkey as a totem.
With a Turkey totem, you have transcended self.
You act and react on behalf of others.
This act is not a sense of moralism or guilt,
but a deep knowledge that all life is sacred.
What you do for others, you also do for yourself.
To have a Turkey totem is a true gift.
Its gift may be spiritual, material or intellectual.
Through giving to others will you reach your own goals.
The Turkey is linked to the third eye,
the seat of feminine energies within us, and the center for higher vision.
Turkey is also the symbol of the Mother Earth and her abundant harvest.
All of Earth's blessings and the ability to use them to their greatest advantage
are part of Turkey's teachings.

So I thought that was cool.

Is it possible to have more than one ?......

1. Dragon.
2. My familiar ( 3 dogs through out my life, each dog although appearance was different acted and reacted identically in every way) I have dreamt of my familiar and the most recent showed me that my mother was about to die , that was 4 years ago and she did about 6 months after.
3. My Parrot (recently departed and I knew when she had died before her handler did, she visited me early in the morning in spirit form, flashing round my room like a demented foo fighter
I loved that bird )

Like you stated, "they choose you".

Well, from what I can tell with my own experience, you have one main, and then, you have several that change as situations and life experiences change.

I think the main one, in your case a dragon, would be a long term guide.
Could be lifelong, or not, that I don't know.
Raven didn't come into my life until the mid 90's as far as I am aware of.

But spirits of animals can most definitely hang around after they pass on. My moms cats could be heard running through her house long after they died

Most definitely you can have more than one. I have three spirit animal guides.

Yes, I've had this experience too. I took care of my sister's dog after it was hit by a car and had to have surgery. (She didn't have time.)

I loved that dog -- very bright with a sweet spirit. Years later, when it finally died in my sister's house, I would see the semi-transparent form of that dog moving around my house. This went on for quite a few months after it died, then it moved on.

Actually, the Dragonfly has meaning to the Native Americans. When I read your post I remembered something I read a long time ago. I don't know if you've ever fiddled with "Medicine Cards." This is based on Native American traditions of many different tribes ( Lakota Sioux, Cherokee, Choctaw, Cheyenne, Iroquois, Seneca, Yaqui, etc.).

The "Medicine Cards" (1988) came with a book. The Dragonfly is #27 on their list of 44 power animals.

"Dragonfly breaks illusions, brings visions of power...." You might find more info online about it.

A tree, especially an old tree, can have a powerful deva or protective spirit. Certain trees were especially sacred to the ancient Celts.

When you are feeling especially tired or drained, put your arms around a tree for several minutes. Thank the tree for giving you its energy.

I have lots of snakes in my dreams, but they're never "nice" to me, so I don't know. I usually get bitten by them.

Are you kidding? If you're practicing Kundalini yoga, you must know that seeing snakes in your dreams is highly auspicious. It's considered a good sign of progress.

I've seen cobras in my dreams too, but snakes are not one of my spirit animal guides either.

that is kind of how it starts happening. You start getting the special connections to certain animals. It can spill out into other parts of your life too actually. Once you start following signs and guides, it is almost like another world awareness takes place. Your reality shifts slightly, your perception changes. And once that starts happening, who knows what spirit has in store for someone. It can be quite a roller coaster for a while. But definitely never dull.

Never got past the spiders.
