Anonymous Cowards

I wish we knew who we were talking to on social media

I think it would make social media more honest.

I think we should all get a internet id and we should not be able to post anything online that is anonymous.

The id would be required to log onto the net so different ip addresses would not matter. People would know who you are no matter what computer you are on.

I have had many insults here on ATS. I think this would happen less if people had a face or identity and were not hiding behind an avatar.

Its only a matter of time since they are already arresting people for the things they post on twitter and facebook. I will be happy to lose the right to anonymity. I will be happy that all the cowards do. it will be awesome.

Its a form of verbal assault that happens on sites like this very often. It should stop. And people should always know that there are potential consequences for their actions.

I like a good burn and even a good insult. But some stuff on here goes too far.

And beyond insults,you can be accussed of serious things like domestic terror or inciting hate. People should have the right to know who their accusers are.

We dont know if we talking to a15 year old kid or a sad old middle aged guy. It would be better if we knew.

Anonymity on the web encourages cowardly behaviour. I will be glad when they get rid of it.

Well if you dont like ATS,dont let the door hit your ass on the way out.

I have been a little rude at times but mostly returning fire.

Its pretty selfish to want to make every one use a ID card to use the internet because you cant take a minor insult.

I couldn't disagree more. In the age of id theft (i've rarely stated before, but was part of the ps network hack) I would never desire to have my information (real name, address, etc) on the net. The day this passes, I'm out. Once the crowd is done roaring in joyous certimony of this fact, I just wish to state, I shouldn't have to put anything online I don't chose to. I see your point, that there are those that will take advantage, but for those of us that us wish to not have to deal hacks, the less information on myself I can give the better. I myself, don't always follow this rule well, but I don't think anyone has a the right to force total reveilance (that's not even a word -.-)

Yeah, sorry on the nazi thing, but honestly, we would've had that conversation face to face if it was an opition. You're a lil bit of distance for my budget though, my man.

I think most don't hide behind their avatars as much as use them as a projection of self (leave it to the shrinks to define mine, I just enjoyed the episode myself). I know the trolls will be the obvious arguement here. But when you can literally slam them with such brillant poetry, I have no idea why you would care if they hide or not. ^.~

This is true, but I still am uncertain to the point of you knowing my home address if I don't wish it. In the end, sometimes people say some mean stuff. Just let it go. If they had an intelligent arguement, they'd state it, instead of insulting, right?

As usual Germanicus, you bring forth some intresting ideas, not all which I can agree with, but are always well stated. I hope, perhaps, you might see the view of a casual net user or a tin hat (I'm a little of both) not wishing the whole world had easy access to my personal information.
The reason you get assualted the way you do, is because you bring ideas that not everyone can agree with (or was simply programmed not to) to the table in a brillant way. And while some might be able to appericate this skill, many others will always be upset by the words spoken, where as they should try to discuss them, as (from my humble perspecitve) that is what this site is all about. Not just ETs and government conspiracies, but intelligent discussion.

Maybe I'm reading too much into something, but you sir are a genius. You do everything from stand up comic to poet to social commentary to ...well, I got to admit, I'm still not sure what this one was...but by morning I bet dollar to donuts I wake up with a "OH HOLY SPIT, I GET IT!" moment. I do know this though, it's another one of your "works" so to speak.

I don't say this to kiss ass mind you, though I can see those thoughts already, but you've literally taken what social media has turned into and made yet another piece of art about it. That's a skill my friends, I hope ya'll can enjoy it for what it is.
