I remember seeing an article last year, about the HP acquisition of Software / Solutions company Autonomy, where it mentioned the strategy was aiming for more software based business rather than hardware. So, I wonder if a lot of those layoffs are trending towards the hardware side?
I hope they do not impact the support side of the business as my company already outsources all project and frontline support to them... and they suck... big time!

Isn't the UK in a double dip recession?

I guess you won't be buying any HP servers or Cisco routers this year.

Strangely, on all our projects, although HP project manage all IT aspects and procurement of IT infrastructure and equipment, they are still buying in Dell servers!

All IT services used to be in-house, it was then outsourced to EDS (bad service) who were then bought up by HP (even worse service). I was on a conf call with US colleagues a couple of weeks back where one of the US based IT directors said he'd spoken with internal HP director level people and even they said their support sucked!

Oh! Yes! We may be in a double dip recession here but it's a US corporation I work for.

Bad news? Just because HP layoff staff? OP gotta be kidding right?

Does he know how BIG America is? HP is just one corporation amongst many.

When one closed down, it frees up workers to seek better employment elsewhere, amongst the many other companies, or take a break to start up new ones themselves. USA - the land of the brave and free, offers such opportunities. You can never get an american to stay down.

HP leadership had failed the trust and confidence of its workers and consumers that had supported it, and thus their problems today. May they and other corporations learn from those mistakes, to correct them and progress.

Materials are dead, but the brains are of the living. As long as the brain still functions, wealth can be created and shared, for our planet had not run out of resources, not for another millenia espacially with modern tech and management of them.

Obama needs growth.

He is not getting it.

General Mills is also laying off.

Cisco CEO guidance = slowing down

His stock dropped on the day he said it.

Your not very good at reading graphs.
There is a -lot- more red than black...combine all of the black together and you might get about halfway through the red. Long way to go still.

What your seeing is obama stopped the progressive loss of jobs, but it took many months to go from losing jobs monthly to finally starting to gain some.

370,000 new unemployment claims each week for the duration of the Obama administration....
Obama policies have failed at sustaining jobs
PERIOD

Freaking Helen Keller could read that stat.

How is this bad news for Obama? The report said HP beat its earnings estimate, and I bet most of these jobs are NOT inside the United States.

The number is here: 27,000 HP workers are getting laid off.

That's 8% of the workforce.

General Mills is laying off 850 workers.

Where is the job growth?

The answer to your question is one word.

- s t a g n a t i o n -

Fortune 500 corporations are downsizing in order to ride out the current economic

malaise created by Obamas economic policies.

General Mills is laying off 850 people. Question: Where's the growth?

Obamas economic polices created economic malaise???....really?....specific details or this is just a right-wing rant. all i see is that the economy is adding jobs, the majority of businesses are doing better, unemployment is coming down, and with europes "austerity" program (what the republicans wanted), europe is going into a double-dip recession.
no more karl rove one-liners or FOX NEWS "alerts"...show details of a reliable source.

Gee, i wonder what the next Job Growth Report will look like?

gee... i know this might be a stretch for you, but, where is the house republicans on authorizing and passing infrastucture project bills, that actually puts people back to work...oh that's right, they want the economy to fail, they want the american people unemployed, they want to destroy the middle class, they want more taxpayer money going to the top 1%, they want to keep 30 billion dollars in subsidies go to the largest oil companies in the world, they want to kill roe v. wade, they want women to shut the hell up about equal pay, they want to de-regulate wall street..they have alot on their plate, besides helping america with job growth.

Good. Couldn't have happened to a better company. HP makes terrible computers. This time last year I bought a HP laptop. The screen stopped working and the fan over the processor died at the same time. Bought another HP laptop, and after a few months, this one had poo'd the bed also.

Horrible company. I hope they go under.

They make better servers. Apple filled their server farm in Maiden, NC with HP servers.

really?? what socialism have we had?? answer this...why haven't the republicans in the house brought to the floor for a vote, a bill to heavily tax american companies from moving jobs overseas, instead of keeping the jobs here for americans? why haven't the house republicans agreed on wallstreet reform details in the already-passed dodd-frank bill? why have the republicans deliberately set out to destroy the united states post office.....as far as i'm concerned ..washington republicans are the biggest traitors...they are out to destroy the middle class, they want a few 1%'ers, and the rest of us to be low-paid wage slaves, who have no way of ever getting out of poverty...don't think so??....don't believe me, just go to the house of representatives voting record in congress...and you will see bill after bill, that hurts the middle class, and enriches the wealthy. there is no political "spin" on voting records.
