Moving along with the quoted text.... the guy was mentally ill. He was known in the community and the Police knew him and knew he was mentally ill and homeless.

It was not so much a case of him not wanting to follow police orders, he was actually unable to. He was off his medication. If watch the part of the video where he is told to sit down, he does sit down, but he sits in the wrong spot. If you watch the part of him picking his legs up, then laying them flat and putting his hands on his knees. This was not done to be a douche... he was having trouble understanding the orders he was being given which were, "put your legs out and your hands on your knees." The fact that he would not give his name, is actually more of a case of him not being able to give him name. If you read the transcript of the recorded conversation, very early on as the Police are saying names, he agrees with a couple that are not him and says many times that he does not know.

Kelly Thomas was not an out of control animal. He was a schizophrenic homeless man who was well known in his town and described by locals as a person who was "gentle and child like".

The fact is, Police stopped him for no reason, wanted to search him for no reason and were simply harassing the guy to begin with. At no time does Kelly Thomas ever threaten the Police, but Officer Ramos threatens Thomas when he tells him, "You see these fist? They are getting ready to f you up!" after making a whole tough guy production of snapping on his latex gloves for the occasion. All this AFTER Kelly Thomas willingly agrees to allow Police to search him. Which is very interesting in itself since the original Police report on the incident claimed that Kelly Thomas was "uncooperative" and that he "resisted" when they attempted to search him, and that is when backup was called.

Kelly Thomas never put up a fight much less fought with a half dozen cops. You can clearly see in the video that Kelly Thomas is on the ground with Police on top of him and hitting him the entire time. That is not "fighting" with Police, that is called getting you arse kicked by Police. You are either blind, ignorant or simply did not actually watch the video.

Yes, Mental Illness can be mistaken for intoxication by drugs or alcohol by the average moron. Given that most homeless people suffer from some sort of mental illness, it is safe to say that the officers should have been aware that there was a high probability that the homeless man was mentally ill.

Are you going to suggest that all people who are mentally ill be the next ones to be exterminated, right after they are done with the "socially odd" ones?

I have always been a bit lost as to why my American friends to the south want, or feel the need to carry their firearms with them when they leave the house. As a Canadian, I have never felt this need, but after reading your comments, I am starting to understand why, I would not feel safe either knowing that sadistic pathological animals such as yourself roam the streets freely.

I also am so disgusted that the mans father, was offered $900,000 to leave it be!!! So that these so called Cops wouldnt get in any trouble...

Yes it is in court right now. This video was released and played in court. Recently there was a hearing to see if the Cops involved (only 2 are charged with a crime), will stand trial or not.

This kind of thing happens more than you know. This indecent just happened to be caught on tape and shown to the public. 90% of cops are just criminals with a badge and the protection of the law. Its sad and disturbing that all those cops found it necessary to jump on and beat a scrawny, unarmed man to death.

This was a terrible crime, and its also a terrible crime that mentally ill people, disabled people are living on the streets and not in beautiful middle class subsidized home with assisted living, and DIGNITY. Any nation that does not look after its own abundantly is a FELON committing crimes against humanity. And I am an interationalist enough to believe in World Human Rights that are maintained. Abundance for all, no slavery and no scarsity, no homeless, especially not handicapped.

However those who would torture the cops to death, or believe in retaliation need to work on their own issues inside. While our hearts conceive of any form of violence, we are a part of the problem here. They need to be removed from society are in fact a danger to the safety of others, and need massive counseling/healing. From the look in their eyes, this is going to be lifelong work, they also looked like abused, SS agents, with wounded hard eyes, wonder what programs turn little beautiful boys into monsters.

I watched this, not the full 33 mins but the first posted vid. Not nice at all. But it goes to show, that thugs are employed in the Police and they get off on whipping out justice to the weak and vunerable. Because the so called Officer thought his perp was going to be an easy way of venting his frustration at being a fat bastard.

The was Officer Overkill to the extreme, and it seemed like when more arrived, it was a bunch of kids with a new toy or a bunch of wolves slaughtering a lamb. The panic as you hear "There's blood everywhere" and the frantic discussion of "What are we going to do here?" sends out signals of the reality of what they ALL did.

Here in the UK we have many heavy hitting coppers, even more so when in riot gear. The Police need to be Policed. And properly too.

This was a very sad and unfortunate event that could have been settled another way.

I hope the bunch of them run into serious perps next time around. What goes around, comes around.

Non compliance does not carry a death penalty. Unless he posed a genuine lethal and unquestionable threat to those officers, the most they ought to have been able to get away with was an armlock. NO beating is required when cops outnumber thier target in this way, and any defence of these punks is an outrage against freedom.

The ''homeless'' guy is clearly playing with the officer and not one bit complying. He is behaving like he is drunk. He is using up so much of his energy hollering and resisting some more. Why not just comply and be quiet?

Did you skip the beginning of the video?.....where the "officer" introduced himself to the homeless mentally ill man?

Something tells me that the man possibly faced a childhood event as he was calling out for his Dad.

This was definitely excessive use of force. At the least, they could have tased him to destablize and put the handcuffs rather than beating him up. I wonder who will stand up or make noise now for a 'white man' has been beaten to death by the cops.
